Father-Son State Champs

See...just because I'm with Collins Hill now doesn't mean I didn't come from Tennessee! My brothers wrestled for Gordon Connell at Hixson....way back.

David is Stokes' uncle. His father, Stokely, wrestled in the Mid- South days, and may have been a Mid south champion. I am not sure.

Jim Thompson was a Mid- South Champion and is the father of state champions, Claytor, Coleman, and Fletcher Thompson.

hate to say it but steve gross beat me 2-1 in 70 in the mid-south finals, i was not the winner but lots of good times and memories with the sport- that is the year -1970 we went up to bethleham, pennsylvania and became the first and to this date the only southern school to ever win the national preps- that was quite an accomplishment for coach worsham and teammates- jim t.

I could be wrong but I think Tommy Bateman and Son Buster both won State while at Father Ryan....

I don't think that I'm going out on a limb predicting Lynn / Zack Goss addition to this list within 3 years. Are there other current high schoolers in this situation? Luther Killian's son is a pretty tough 8th grader.

I will go way out and add Pat Simpson and Kirby who is all of four years old..but he is a Simpson.

dan waddell - baylor 9th grader - very good - i don't remember what father joe did - he wrestled for cleveland and UTC.

Joe was a good High School wrestler but he came up just short of a state championship I think............and if I remember correctly the guy who stop Joe from being the a champ was Dan Colvard/East Ridge. If I'm wrong someone tell me. (that was a stupid thing for me to say)

Dead - I'll second that assessment of Dan Waddell. This weekend was the 1st time I've seen him wrestle and I left impressed. I've seen a lot of good freshmen this year, and he is right up there with the best of them. The future in bright in TN.
