East Tn TMSAA Large School Champs

Congratulations to the Greeneville Middle School Girls on their 2nd straight East Tennessee TMSAA Large School Crown. The defeated Lafollette in the championship and defeated a strong Jefferson (Oak Ridge) team in the semi-finals. The future is looking bright for GHS and coach Burkey.

Why is Cleveland Middle not in this tourney?

Burkey has to be positively giddy that he has this group of girls to look forward to coaching. This team has lost only 1 game in 2 years. There was a time some of these girls might jump over to South Greene to play for Larry Ricker but I think that time is over. Larry may very well see his talent pool shrinking in the county as well. Some of those county girls might make the move to the city to play for Greeneville..... interesting scenario.

My understanding is that their region just has not organized a local Area Tournament to advance to the Regional. Maybe someone else can clarify that? GMS only started playing in the Area tournament last year because it conflicts with their conference tournament. Because no one else in GMS's conference is a member of TMSAA, they do not work around this tournament to accomodate GMS. I have seen GMS play Cleveland several times because they are great competition for them. Cleveland could have won this tournament this year...in my opinion.
