Rambo
How important is it to take infield before a game.
redbirdfan
It's a Must !!
NWTNZebra
I don't think it's a huge deal. It could go either way, but I guess it never hurts. It helps get a little of the rust off before the game starts.
bassteel
I think it's an advantage. It helps players get a feel for the field conditions.
Gerry Bertier
Well I know when we play Jackson Southside last year in the sectional, they did not take pre-game and they won the game and went on to finish 2nd in the state. So I dont think it is a must.
1stbaseguy
we never take infield we have our problems but that hasnt changed when we do take it on an occasional really bad field to see what the ball will do
HallsOF12
mcminn central came down to play in the beaver creek classic here in knoxville this weekend. before their game against us (knox halls), they took infield-without a ball. they went through each motion-fielding,throwing, and all without a ball. when the catcher stands beside the fungo coach he would act like he would catch the ball and toss it at the coach-our team just sat there thinking what in the world, but later our coach told us it was to get down the fundamentals. i dont know how well that works-they lost every game in the tourny i believe.(not putting them down, just making the statement different people do different things to maybe see a change-they lost the night before us and they took pregame infield with a ball-maybe they were looking for something diffrerent)
BaseballFreak003
To me I feel taking infield is essential. Sure you can pretty much determine how the ball will react just by looking (hard dirt, soft dirt, high grass, low grass) but I think you can really get a feel for how the field will play. One thing I have noticed is that alot of coaches get lazy when taking pregame infield and hit little grounders the whole time. I think if the coach and players take it serious it is a huge MUST. Jamone
HallsOf12 :i dont know how well that works-they lost every game in the tourny i believe. Mcminn Central beat Jefferson Co. 6-5 and they tied Gibbs 6-6 after 8 innings.
HallsOF12
yeah i saw that after i said that-sorry about that-they beat jeff. co-thats a good thing, but a tie with gibbs means nothing. well to add on, they had like 3 or more errors in our game
HallsOF12
but like i said before(and my main point) ive never seen that done before...it was interesting-just trying something different i guess i think there is a college that does the "phantom ball" pregame infield
LCborn
It sounds like an air guitar concert. Hey, did you notice if their pitcher warmed up with a real baseball?
