New Tennessean Top 10 Poll

The new midstate poll of The Tennessean is out for this week, but I wish they could not jinx teams with predictions of perfect seasons at just 5-0 with five region games left. However, still a very good amount of respect shown and the top five is a tough bunch.

 

1 Riverdale (5-0)

Decimated five good teams with a combined .704 win percentage.

2 MBA (5-1)

Upcoming game at McCallie will mark the Division II frontrunner.

3 Antioch (5-0)

Preston Brown and the offensive line ready for Gallatin’s defense.

4 Smyrna (5-1)

Bulldogs should finish strong – last four foes are a combined 7-13.

5 Franklin (5-0)

Wins against Centennial and Brentwood can legitimize this team.

6 White House (5-0)

Time for Blue Devil fans to start thinking about a perfect season.

7 BA (3-2)

Needs to build some momentum this week vs. Father Ryan.

8 Hillwood (5-0)

When was the last time the ‘Toppers were favored against Hillsboro?

9 Brentwood (4-1)

Hoping Ravenwood is a rebound game after first loss to Smyrna.

10 Greenbrier (4-1)

Can’t snap the White House streak, but can certainly finish 9-1.

P.S. I think they just swapped Greenbrier and White House if memory serves correctly.

Riverdale is in the right place, yes, obviously. Is MBA 2nd? I think this week's game vs McCallie goes a long way in answering that. Same goes for whether or not Antioch should be 3rd (and whether Gallatin should be in the top 10, which I think maybe they should). Smyrna's big win over Brentwood validates their being in 4th. 5th is just fine for my Rebels. This is where questions in the rankings really start to come into play. As for me, I think a poll should somewhat be a picture of who would beat who. For example, the number 6 team should not be a team that the number 7 team could beat. I don't think that White House could beat BA or Brentwood. So I'd likely put BA at 6th, Brentwood at 7th, White House at 8th, Hillwood 9th, Greenbrier 10th (or really, I'd rather have Gallatin here). Just my two cents...
