State tournament sites

In soccer, I do not feel that a regulation size field, with a good surface, gives much of an advantage. Now, if the field is short, narrow or has a bad surface, it can totally serve as a plus to the home team. CCS has a very nice field and I think lost in the state tourney there last year.

Another solution, would be at least play A/AA at GPS and Division II at CCS.

What I don't understand, is why is it in Chattanooga? It would seem that Nashville would be a better choice for the entire state. Vanderbilt, Belmont, David Lipscomb, and Trevecca, to name a few, have incredible fields.

I'm not sure that this is the answer, but I think that the state venue is given to the team that won the previous year. (Which is supposed to give them an adavantage based on travel time and familiarity with the field.) I'm also pretty sure that the DII tourney has to be played at GPS because the Baylor field doesn't hold enough people. I could be wrong... I don't really remember who won in A/AA.

In A/AA, DCA out of Nashville won state last year. The finalist was FRA also out of Nashville and the team that eliminated CCS in the semis, so I don't think who won dictates the site. CCS does have a nice field. I agree it gives them an advantage playing on their own field should they get to the finals, which I'm sure they will. CCS, as well as the other Chat. teams also have the advantage of sleeping in their own beds. Hopefully the refs will be neutral despite who is playing and on what field. If this is the case, the better team can overcome those advantages. It does seem that those that make site decisions would consider Nashville which is centrally located. West TN also has Mike Rose as well. I'm sure those teams get tired of the 6-7hr. drive each year.

They are playing at CCS and GPS because they are the two nicest fields in town with good seating.

It doesn't have anything to do with who won last year.

They should play A/AA at GPS and DII at CCS. I think one reason is that the home field coaches typically put in alot of time hosting so it would be hard for GPS to host if they were playing at CCS or vise versa.

Any... looking forward to some good soccer in the next few weeks.

AAA in the Chattanooga region should be interesting with Soddy-Daisy, McMinn County and Ooltewah.

A/AA should be a cake walk for CCS

DII is also a toss up between GPS, Notre Dame and Baylor. Baylor is favored but I think GPS or ND could beat them. GPS and ND play in the semifinal next Tuesday, loser goes home.

    • If it was anyone but #8 I would agree with you. Theirs a couple people on that team that probably would. Not him. And I who was standing on the 1st base line fence saw clearly that the boys foot was covering more than half the bag.
    • If y’all lose to Farragut something awful has happened.
    • Get him to Bearden ASAP! Or anywhere, Karns hs is in rough shape, probably not getting out of it anytime soon.
    • I'm not a Powell grad.  I am a Bearden grad.   My son and daughter are Powell grads.   I did radio play by play for Powell, my last year was 2013. I also did radio play by play for South Doyle, and my last gig was at Maryville before I retired.   My oldest grandson plays in the Karns Middle program, so I see more Karns games than I do Powell these days.  I've been to 3 Powell games since 2013.   I don't have any ties to Powell, haven't since 2013.   No "y'all" there.    And the kid you are talking about does have a very good arm, but he's not the QB that Deuce Rogers is.  Rogers is a legit dual threat guy.  The younger kid now at Clinton, or about to be at Clinton, isn't the dual threat that Rogers is.
