TV Announcers in Middle Tenn for HS Football

Does anyone else think the guys on CSS are a little over rated? Pat Sperduto messes up quite a few names during games. I think the production (replays, stats) are great but the announcers are hard to listen too.

Some of the best games to watch have been some of the local High Schools. Brentwood High and Brentwood Academy seem to have knowledgeable announcers. They are entertaining to listen too, and are complimentary of there school and there opponents.

I just like the hometown feel that both of these teams announcers have, and I think both schools should be proud of the work that they do.

Every broadcaster is far from perfect, but Fulton and Sperduto tend to fall outside the high school announcers' standard deviation from flawlessness. Their broadcasts sometimes appear unprofessional and almost condescending.

Sperduto treats Fulton's voice as a bird treats a reflective window -- he can't stop running into it. Meanwhile, while I realize both men have busy lives and must learn two new rosters each week, their lack of proficiency with name pronounciation is outside the norm. Finally, they tend to treat the high school game as if it's nothing compared to the college and professional levels, often unintentionally belittling players by applying college/pro standards of size/strength/ability to a bunch of 15-18 year-olds.

I appreciate both broadcasters' willingness to cover Middle Tennessee high school football, and while I'm sure they enjoy themselves every Friday night, I wish they'd apply their own college/pro standards to their own level of professionalism.

I think you are being just a little too hard on them. I listened to them and Yes, they were rough around the edges but how many games has Sperduto done on the air live? I really don't know but I would suspect that his place in the seat was a complimentary gesture to have someone in the professional sports ranks to give his views. It may have lacked timing and wit, but broadcasting is obviously not his day job. ;)

Sperduto's been broadcasting for at least 3 years now. While no one expects him to be the next Madden or even Dennis Miller, it'd be nice for him to extend a little common courtesy and respect to these players and to our ears.

I will defend Pat Sperduto to a certain extent. He is always willing and open to talk to the media as well as being a heckuva Arena football coach.

That said, he does struggle on the air. When he took the job he was a coach without a team, but now he's focusing on returning the Kats to the field and is likely not concentrating on the prep game.

In addition I do agree that this broacast team tends to forget they're doing h.s. ball and becomes overly critical.

I just think that the guys who seem to do there local teams are very good, and they are also very complimentary of there opponents. I know that opponents of BA and Brentwood High are somewhat surprised at how they seem to compliment both teams throughout (which is only right)!

I just think that Sperduto says Wow! a few too many times throughout the night. Although, I will agree it makes for a great atmosphere for the kids to play on TV for a night.

Just think that the people I have listened to here on replays for these local teams are really good and fun to listen too.

    • After that first paragraph, I can see why you’re a TA and not a teacher. Have you made the move from South Knoxville to Bearden yet?    Maybe he left because he is an actual teacher and coach, and didn’t want to be associated with a group of foul mouthed middle school coaches who like to pretend they’re big time.
    • Yeah and the coach is gone. Whole bizarre situation here. We played them a couple of times at MTSU last few years. She was a player for sure.
    • This whole situation is bonkers. You don’t just kick your star player off the team just because you heard them say the F word; the coach definitely had something against the player, or somebody definitely did. Also, nobody has brought up the idea that the school blackmailed the college to get the college to withdraw the scholarship offer, not to mention that the coach who kicked her off is no longer even with the program; they were fired. I think this is a pretty easy lawsuit. I don’t know if she should deserve that much money, but I think she should get enough money for a full-ride scholarship if she cannot get one after this situation.
    • Oh yeah, I’m sure you are different people just always on the same thread for some reason, always agreeing with each other, perhaps just a bunch of dorks who would like to ###### and moan about high school football coaches do a lot of other students, so you make a football team and get a yell at them. When they do something wrong, but I’m sure you don’t like that, do you?   and I’m sure I’m aware of where you get information. A teacher who was on the coaching staff but was fired after the new coaching and staff came in and realized he actually had to start taking his assistant job a little bit more seriously than just wanting to make a little extra cash on the side, hardly even showing up to most practices, should’ve left with his buddy to go to Farragut. I’m sure he could get him a defensive coaching job, but I doubt he will be there in three years. Looking at the way Farragut is currently going.
    • It may be hard to believe but there’s more people than me that think you guys are a bunch of losers.    I’m sure the coaching staff, yourself included, cursed at a bunch of high school students. Nobody could name more than 3 coaches on staff due to the constant turnover.
