Victor Jones put on a show last night at the KIL Jamboree with some monster dunks inckuding a 360 windmill but lost because he missed his last dunk....they gave the contest to Jonah Riggs of Halls despite Jones being head and shoulders above him in dunking

anyone else think this is crap?

I was in the concourse because dunking has nothing to do with playing basketball.  It is indeed spetacular but a regular lay up get the same 2 points.

you know who says something like that?...someone who can't dunk, never could, and will never be able to. I'm sorry you hate the dunk so much, but it can be a huge advantage in a close game in terms of changing the momentum, not to mention that dunks are very entertaining to watch. Please, don't be a hater.

I agree. Larry Bird is the only GREAT player I ever saw play that didn't dunk. Everybody else always did. It is a huge momentum swinger. Plus, its alot safer to drop it in over the rim than get it jammed between the rim and the backboard, right. You don't have to hang on the rim to dunk it.

A few points to make after reading these past few posts:

1. Larry Bird could, in fact, dunk the heck out of the ball. And he did so on more than a few occasions. Bird just had such a great all-around game that few of his dunks make the highlight reels. He had several great baseline dunks in people's faces, especially early in his career.

2. The kid from Karns was sensational, and clearly he was the better dunker. But, the contest rules were to combine the scores of BOTH dunks in the finals. The kid from Halls made both of his dunks. The kid from Karns tried to do too much on the second dunk and missed it badly. It was not even close. Therefore, under the rules, he did not deserve to win. I think it was not the best judgment on his part as he would have easily won the contest had he completed the second dunk -- even if it was weak. He wanted to be a showman and that's great, but he took a chance and missed. He was not robbed of anything.

3. You don't have to be able to dunk to be able to give good analysis on basketball. When I played in college, I could dunk the crap of it, forwards, backwards, anyway I wanted to. That being said, I agree with Bigcatt2. I have never seen a team win a game because of a big dunk. However, I have seen teams, college and high school, lose games because their players tried to dunk and missed. When you lose by a point and had two missed dunks in a game, you kind of understand that while dunking is fun and crowd pleasing, it is best to save those moments for when the result is not going to hurt you.

    • Im asking everyone to keep roy whited and his family in your prayers. Coach whited won back to back state championships at white county in 98-99. He is very well liked and respected in this area. For those of you that dont know he went missing 3 days ago. No one knows where he is. His truck was found in a rural part of the county. Thanks again. We are all very concerned.
    • West would be a good team to get behind if they can pull it off again like last year. That championship game last year was awesome.
    • I say that because he stepped out of a MUCH better situation on his own than he would see at least his first 3 years at DCA and it would take at least that much to bring him back to coaching. There are other fish in the sea, but again money talks. Need to fix the girls hoops too. Now I'll try again. Who has Pierce locked in for his staff? Hearing a McGavock man but not the Iceman.
    • I’ve heard mostly good things from the gridiron. Lots of optimism. It sounds like the portal has mostly helped, though there are a few expected defections. Comeback year!
    • Rudesell 1 year at Crockett. Coach Tate 2 weeks a Bradford. South Gibson supposedly going with jcs middle school coach. Which isn’t who I thought would get it, I know the top 2 was between him and Obion girls head coach.
