Unaka Tournament GREAT SHOW

It was a very Classy event with Tremendously Talented teams. Coach Donald Ensor and his assistants, Johnny Ensor, Richard Thomas and Larry Bowling on the Boys side; and Coach Kenneth Chambers and his staff on the Ladies side went the extra mile to bring in not only the best available competition, but teams that take Good Sportsmanship very seriously.

*Getting to Finally see Unaka play Hampton was a Special Treat*

The Hospitality shown to the visiting coaches, referees, recruiters and Media was second-to-none.

Athletic Director Ronnie Hicks, Head Football and Baseball Coach Acie Ensor and Assistant Coach Ryan Nave were more than generous with their time and consideration.

All the players' parents, administrators and volunteers involved in this event should be thanked individually, but to attempt to do so here would certainly neglect so many annonymous, yet very deserving of our personal thanks and appreciation. And Special Thanks to the Sponsors.

How is UNAKA looking this season.

Unaka is a Senior Laden (7 Seniors), Deep, Very Talented Team.

Julie Roberson 6'2" Returning All-State Center. Great touch, yet Strong.

Jessica Osborne 5'5" Guard. Good Shooter; Fast, Quick Full Speed Ahead.

Rene Ensor 5'5" Guard. Same as Osborne. Two Great Guards. Both Honorable Mention All-State Last Season

Coty Townsend 5'9" Wing. As talented as any of Unaka's Players. Tenacious.

Danielle Ensor 5'11" Post. Quiet but Tough, Can Shoot, Defend, Rebound.

Four of five have played together since 5th grade. The other, Roberson, is a Four year starter.

Megan Johnson 5'8" Guard - Plays a Lot. (Junior)

Tiffanie Babb 6'0" Roberson's Back-up, Very Good Player.

Kelly Allen 5'5" Senior Guard. Quick, good defender.

Lacey Gouge 5'6" Can play four positions well.

Sallee Taylor 5'9" (Sophomore) Usually plays Point.

I mention ten players simply because Coach Kenneth Chambers has coached several of them for eight seasons now; and he's Never hesitant to play any of them, and in several different combinations. Unaka's starting five, which sometimes includes Gouge, is outstanding: Prefer the inside-out game, but all can shoot.

The Strength of the Rangers is Depth, Diversity and Speed. Starting to play reasonably well; need consistency, not uncommon for teams this deep.

*No SELFISH players on this team. Very close-knit*

A SERIOUS CONTENDER FOR MURFREESBORO.

Unaka never signed "the contract" to play in the Livingston tournament. Supposedly, to play at Livingston, you had to sign and pay a small fee, but it was non-refundable if you could not make it. The staff at Unaka told the staff at Livingston back in the summer that they wouldn't be in it but Livingston listed them on the schedule anyway. I think Unaka will be playing at Volunteer against some teams from their local area.

There is no contract for tournaments. Teams just give their word and most of the time that's good enough. Not in this case, I guess. For the record, not sure what fee you're speaking of... we even let coaches and players in the game free too... Anyway, it doesn't matter. The situation has been handled. Good luck Unkaka, U probably wouldn't have liked our tournament anyway...

YES, there are indeed contracts for tournaments, be they "verbal," as you've indicated, or written ....And if the particular tournament to which you're referring has no contract, then to imply that Unaka had given their word to be there is somewhat misleading. So, are you aware that Unaka had "contracted," or given their word to participate in the tournament? And if so, are you stating that Unaka actually "committed," and then withdrew? You've certainly implied as much.

My understanding is that Unaka had discussed the "possibility" of participating in the tournament, but when made aware of a non-refundable fee, then Unaka stated that sometimes weather conditions could pose a problem(we usually have to make-up several games each season due to weather conditions) and weather NOT permitting, then Unaka would probably be a no-show; and if so, Unaka didn't want to forfeit an entry fee. There are several hundred miles to be traveled, and for hundreds of people, so there were also logistical concerns, due to other possible make-up games here at home.

But to suggest that Unaka gave their word to participate, and then withdrew, is very misleading. In fact, I'm reasonably sure that that is simply not true.
