Those are the standings as of right now with district action pretty much wrapped up except for a couple games. Will there be upsets? Look at last year's tournament. Hillwood with a horrible regular season record made it to the CHAMPIONSHIP! So I'm sure there will be a stunner or two next week. I don't think it'll be Franklin or Hillsboro going down though. I'm looking forward to that matchup in the championship game. So with a few upsets, I still think we get FHS/Hillsboro in the finals.

Besides Franklin and Hillsboro, who do you think will represent the district at the Region tournament?

I believe Hillsboro will come out on top. They entered the year a little cocky, and I think that's why they lost to Franklin early in the year. Franklin is a very good team, no doubt, but when the Burros are hitting on all cylinders, I don't think any of their district opponents can hang with them. They have a great one-two combo down low with Tony Irvin and Mike LeFlores, both extremely athletic with good strength. They attack the boards with tenacity, and that makes it hard for other teams to compete with them on the blocks. LeFlore is especially good on teh offensive glass, using that athleticism to put back several missed shots. Add to them, Elmar Kuli-Zade who is one of the better pure scorers in the district, Rob Hudson, who if he learns to play more within the team structure would be an outstanding point guard who is a solid defender capable of guarding bigger men, and Andrew Schnider who plays his role to perfection, not forcing anything, but hitting big shots when the team needs it. The Burros also have a fairly deep bench, with Daniel Wall who plays much the same as Schnider, Cameron Jordan who plays tough D, and Phil (the last name is escaping me) who is pretty good but not outstanding at every aspect of the game. The only downfall that could ruin the Burros is that sometimes their guards get a LITTLE selfish and forget about the great size advantage they hold down low. If Hudson can distribute the ball evenly between Irvin, LeFlores, and Kuli-Zade, I see the Burros going all the way to Murfreesboro.

Dotson would have to not only have a good tournament, but Hickman County would need to advance quite a ways in it. Rare for you to see a MVP not from the championship team.

About Barnes- he's gonna have to be healthy to earn MVP honors. We'll just have to see.

No one can hang with Hillsboro? Franklin was leading them with 6:00 minutes to play in the game... had a lead at halftime. Oh, and they beat them the first time around. So I think Franklin can hang with them. Hopefully we'll get to see another classic Franklin-Hillsboro district tournament game (like last year's OT game). Though really I guess it's hopefully y'all will get to see. I'm gonna miss not being at the tournament this year! :D

But nonetheless, GO REBS!

    • They’ve both gotten worse. I’ve seen enough games to know that.
    • The only two transfers that Bearden has gotten that went on to play college football were a defensive back from Karnes, who transferred here way before the new coaching staff got here, and a running back from Carter, who went on to play at Maryville College. Both players received those offers while at Bearden, and both players got a diploma from Bearden High School. Therefore, they are Bearden kids, and you can’t do anything about that.   The transfer from Seymour didn’t win the job, what do you expect two quarterbacks to start at the same time? He played great on JV when he could stay healthy, and when he came in on varsity, he did great. The quarterback position is definitely going to be in good hands when the current starting quarterback leaves, but until then, they’re just going to be battling it out like every good quarterback competition does. The current starting quarterback has his flaws, and that is in the pass game, but what he doesn’t have flaws is running and scrambling, and if you go back and watch any game, which I’m sure you didn’t watch any, we used him very often, and when we needed a deep ball, we brought in the transfer from Seymour. The starting quarterback last year will be a senior this year, and the Seymour transfer will be a junior, so the Seymour transfer is definitely going to get his spotlight. He may even win the job this year. Football isn’t about who the newspaper thinks is the best kid. The best kid in the position will win the starting job, and I trust the coaching staff more than a newspaper or article to pick my starting QB.
    • I mean, we’ve only gotten two transfers that went on to play college football, one who went to UT Martin came his second semester junior year before the new coaching staff was here, and the other one went on to play at Maryville College, in which I don’t believe he had any interest prior to transferring.
    • An FYI: To see how an opponent has done against another opponent since 2001- go to the game by clicking on one of the teams. Click the G beside the game. For example, Milan: The info will show you the previous matchups and other info.
    • All these college signees went yo other schools for 3 years, were getting college offers then transferred to Bearden. It’s not like this staff did much to develop them.    The BBall coaches son and the Seymour transfer were some of the most talented QBs in the region, and you guys developed them into QBs who might complete one pass a game.
