catsbball1
With a win here and against East Lit Thursday, GB can secure a tie for 2nd place in this district, but with a loss will be stuck in 3rd or 4th seed for the tournament. With a DL win tomorrow night and against Springfield this week, DL can secure sole possesion of the 2nd place spot. The most important game in all of this seems to be tomorrow night's game between GB and DL. Who do you think will come away with the win? bogus
Can Greenbrier finally get the David Lipscomb monkey off their back? Can Greenbrier contain Jason Brock? Can Greenbrier come up in the clutch? Well knowing from last week, they can come up in the clutch, by winning two must win district road games. But this is Lipscomb. Greenbrier hasn't won at DL, or in that case against them in who knows how long. Will tommorrow be the night? Biggest game of the year for both schools!!!! catsbball1
You're exactly right, GB has had a few problems with DL in the past, but if they ever have a chance it's now. And if there was one must win game for GB this regular season, it has turned out to be this one. Plus, GB has to contain not only Brock, but also Wes Mayes and Zach Pharr who are putting up good numbers just like Brock. DL has a lot of players to worry about with GB too. You never know who's gonna have the big game for GB. Greer has had some good games lately, but Coleman has been putting up his normal numbers with 16 against Hume Fogg and 28 against SC. Plus Jeffrey Brant is a threat down low and on the perimeter and has had some games in the 20's this season. This game is definitely a hard one to predict because of all the possibilites. I would say if GB plays like they have been lately, they could win by 15+, but if DL has a good game or GB has a bad one, DL could win by just as much. Who knows what's gonna happen. GoBama
Hopefully DL's student section will be good this game, although things might be a little different after Saturday nights game at Goodpasture ... Also, it is Senior Night at Lipscomb, perhaps that will have something to do with the outcome. GoBama
Final Score : David Lipscomb 64 Greenbrier 52 DL was holding a small lead towards the end of the first half, when Greenbrier went on a run to go up by 6. DL was down by as much as 9 I believe at one point. However, they slowly came back and outscored Greenbrier in the 3rd and brought it to 2 point ballgame, GB with the lead. The 4th quarter was huge for DL obviously (outscoring Greenbrier 23-9). They came out firing and got up by 8 or so and didn't look back. Greenbrier had some chances, but couldn't capitalize. Nevertheless, this was a great game. DLs student section was one of the best I've been a part of for a home game. GB brought a good number of fans as well. #15 .. Brant (spelling?), took a shot to the nose during the 2nd half. Him and Brock were battling for a rebound, Brock came down after Brant had the ball and accidently caught his nose with an elbow. After a while, Brant was back in the game. I was really impressed by his class. He never got angry, never complained, and he always helped another DL player up if had the opportunity. Class act. Greenbrier won the Kystral eating contest .. eating 15 Krystals to David Lipscomb's 13 in about 3 minutes. Some unofficial stats for DL : In the 4th quarter, I believe DL was 17/23 from the line. Pharr - 14 points, 7 rebounds Mayes - 12 points, 6 rebounds Brock - 10 points Slater - 10 points James - 9 points Solomon - 5 points Wilson - 4 points Great win for DL ... good luck against Springfield on Thursday. catsbball1
The spelling of Brant is right...you're one of the very few who actually spell it right. Anyway, great game and comeback by DL in the second half. Good game by Justin Dorris tonight but what hurt GB the most was GB losing Brant early in the third with the nose injury. Not sure if it's broken or not but he was definitely in pain. Thanks for the compliments about Brant's class. He did do a good job of keeping his cool tonight when he was hit in the nose, but he knew it was an accident so there wasn't much of a reason for him to get mad. This hurt GB b/c they lost his driving and scoring ability which is what he was doing great before he got hurt. Plus when our other big guys got in foul trouble, we didn't have anyone to put in to defend DL's posts. GB missed a couple good chances to cut into the lead with some missed layups and free throws but you know I have to bring up the referee fact. Not for sure the foul ratio in the second half but my guess is 20-25 for GB in the second half to DL's 5 fouls. GB did foul more than DL but it should have been more like 15-10 or something. DL's free throws is what won the game for them, but things could have gone different if GB got to shoot a few more free throws and DL shot a little less. Either way, good game by both teams but DL was able to pull it out. Hopefully DL will win at Springfield this week to give GB and Springfield a 3rd place tie. Good luck Mustangs. COACHHARD
Congratulations to Lipscomb for coming back and getting the win. I hope these two teams meet again in the tournament. It should be another classic high school basketball game. Please go beat Springfield. Good luck. Greenbrier needs to regroup and get ready for a good East Lit team. Last home game for this group of Seniors. Kenton Coleman is 11 points away from 1000 career points.

With his Grandmother just passing away... She rarely missed any of his ballgames... Her funeral is today at 1:00 p.m. so please be in prayer for him and his family. He is Super Young Man both on and off the court.... Edited February 16, 2005 by Sportster

He is Super Young Man both on and off the court.... 825568716[/snapback] This is true. He did an exceptional job, under his current circumstances. But still, Greenbrier could not get the "monkey" off their backs once again. It seems to be the same story every time these two teams meet. They were outscored 23 - 9 in the 4th quarter. Also you could make an argument with the fouls called. At one point it was around 13 -2 for Greenbrier, and both teams were playing equally agressive. Hopefully they can rebound after this one and beat East Lit tomm night. Should be a special moment for the "Senior Seven."
