Young hit 2 threes, and K. Young hit 3 of 3 FT's. In the 2nd qtr., Page outscored Loretto, 14-5, as Bagsby had 6 with 0 of 2 FT's, L. Young had 3 with 1 of 3 FT's, A. Harmon hit 3 of 4 FT's, and Spencer had 2 with 0 of 1 FT's while Loretto's Birdyshaw hit a three, Dickson hit 1 of 3 FT's, and Brewer hit 1 of 2 FT's as Page led at the half, 31-25. In the 3rd qtr., Loretto outscored Page, 14-13, as Hannah had 6 with a three and 1 of 2 FT's, Cross hit 2 of 2 FT's, and Birdyshaw, Franklin, and Dickson each had 2 while Page's K. Young had 7 with 5 of 5 FT's, A. Harmon had 4 with 0 of 2 FT's, and Bagsby hit 2 of 2 FT's as Page led after 3 qtrs., 44-39. In the 4th qtr., Loretto outscored Page, 19-10, as Reed hit 2 threes, Stone had 6 with 2 of 2 FT's, Cross had 5 with 3 of 4 FT's, and Birdyshaw hit 2 of 2 FT's while Page's Bagsby had 5 with 3 of 4 FT's, K. Loretto came through in the 4th qtr. after trailing in the 2nd and 3rd qtrs. as Reed hit 2 clutch threes and, as a team, they hit 7 of 8 FT's. Page's missed FT's in the 1st half came back to haunt them and 6 4th qtr. turnovers also hurt. Jana Cross had a good game in spite of getting sick in the 2nd qtr., but she did her damage in the 1st qtr. with her 11 pts. Nicole Bagsby had a good game as well with her "double, double" of 21 pts. and 11 rebs. and Kayla Young hit 12 of 12 FT's. Loretto advances to the championship game against the winner of Thurs. game between Giles Co. and Marshall Co. while Page will play in the 3rd place game against the loser of Thursday's game. PageMan
I have edited the original post to correct some errors I made. Loretto's FT% was 75%, not 65% as originally entered and Page's Megan Harmon had a rebound that I overlooked. I have refrained from commenting on the officiating, but others of you may offer an opinion if you want.
TheStuff
What are you saying PageMan? There were some questionable calls in a 9-AA tournament game? That cannot be true, I was there on Monday night and thought the officiating was the best I have seen all year.............Okay, there goes my one lie for the week. bballfan03
Were the referees some of the same ones from Monday night at Fairview? They needed retraining!
TheStuff
By saying retraining, are you assuming that they have had trining in the first place? I really couldnt tell. They didn know how to have the captains meeting and to toss the ball at the tip, but, after that, I dont think they knew much more.
bballfan03
Sorry! You are right. I assumed that they did have some training, but then again maybe they had none!! Was the officiating equally bad on both ends of the court or just one side?
TheStuff
I cannot speak for last night, but on Monday night there was only one game that I felt was well officiated all night. Even the 20 point game, the Lewis County/Fairview boys game, had over 50 total fouls called.
runm
The referring was horrible when three players get shoved down and nothing called that is pathetic. Page girls played ball and last night they got robbed. Good luck girls keep your heads up and keep on playing. Pageman come on tell us how you really felt about the refs. LORETTO#1
Great game Loretto, your never stopped playing hard and it paid off. It was great to see Nikki break her scoring slump. Don't let anyone's comments make you think that you didn't earn that win. The calls were bad on both ends of the court for both teams. Good luck on Friday night. PageMan
The officials were, by description since I don't know their names, tall man with the perfect brown hair, old man with glasses and mustache, and middle-aged man with shaved or bald head. The problem I had with them was they let Loretto aggressively play while Page was called for touch fouls. Loretto would triple team a player in the back court, obviously hacking the player, but no calls made. There was another time where Loretto knocked down a Page guard with a blocking foul, but Page was called for traveling. Many of the Page turnovers were due to fouls by Loretto where no calls were made. I don't think they called it the same on both ends of the court. There were several missed calls against both teams, but I think Loretto came out ahead with the officiating. But you can't blame the loss on the officials - Page missed too many easy shots and had too many unforced turnovers that lost the game for them. runm
I guess your right pageman. You can't blame the refs. I am proud of the way Page played they showed they can play with the best because isn't everyone saying Loretto is going to State. Any way that game is over. Page keep playing hard it ain't over yet. Good Luck friday.
