Girls State Tourney

As I have for the past decade or so, I attended the state championships on Saturday Night. I did not have a horse in the race this year so to speak, but went to see some good basketball. ( I was not disappointed at all, all three games were great games).

I did have a problem. At everytime out, the music was turned on, loud. It drowned out the crowds that were trying to cheer for their teams. One of the things I love most about going is to see the student sections for the respective schools get a little nuts, paint themselves and do their chants that they have done all year to fire their squads up. Unfortunately, the music was so loud it was almost impossible for that to happen, and it took away from the whole experience. I hope that the state tourney officials will rethink this. Music at half time or between games is fine, but not at every time out. I am sure that the coaches had a hard time and had to yell for there teams to hear instructions.

The state gives out the Sportmanship (spirit) award, but how can you truly chose one if that if at the opportunities that the cheerleaders (and crowds) have their chance to support their team, all you hear is music booming through the speakers.

I still had a good time, just wished to experience more of the Basketball, fan support and the chants and cheers that go along with it.

Congrats to all the Champions and Runners-up! See ya next year. :o
