Brentwood coach Dennis King retires

Recommended Posts

Sad but true. As one poster noted after the championship game this year, he deserved to hoist a Gold Ball before he hung it up for good, but such is life.

Brentwood associate head coach (and de facto interim coach) John Boucher will be the leading in-house/King coaching tree candidate, but BHS principal Kevin Keidel will likely reach out to LaVergne AD/boys basketball coach Jeremy Moore and Mt. Juliet coach Troy Allen to gauge their interest in the job as well.

John Boucher would be a home run hire but with him being non-faculty, can it happen? What team camps is Brentwood attending this year and on what days?

It's possible, but as you note, the politics of hiring a non-faculty member as a full-time coach at TSSAA public schools is often tricky.

Brentwood will likely be attending team camps at Belmont, Lipscomb, and Western Kentucky this year (basically the same as last year's summer slate), but considering King just announced last night, things are still up in the air a bit.

King and Brentwood were perfect for each other although he seems to have more of an urban school type persona...reminds me a great deal of Jimmy Adams...still I don't think anyone could have accomplished the things he did at the school. My understanding he was a great teacher in the classroom as well.

He leaves behind a great system to those familiar with its nuances and a robust coaching tree of assistant coaches and program acolytes who have coaching experience along with former players. But yes, he is certainly irreplaceable in his own right.

He is a great teacher and, as one other poster on here has occasionally mentioned, a solid songwriter. He has been the head of Brentwood's English department for quite a long time.

    • TSSAA restrictions for hiring non-faculty coaches have been removed for over a year at this point. In the past a non-faculty person had to be "grandfathered" by being an assistant coach for five years, being fingerprinted, and having a background check run per TSSAA rules... since those were rescinded, the board of directors for the school district are responsible for any/all restrictions on hiring non-faculty personnel. I guess what I'm saying to you is that if you really wanted what you posted, it's already possible as long as your local BOE will allow for it.
    • stop it, rlh. you’re gonna get me all misty eyed and sentimental.    i see seven fairly regularly. ….but slim shady, that’s like spotting bigfoot on main street. you just hope he doesn’t spot you.
    • Are you trying to say you didn't find Seven and ShadySlim going at it?
    • hey goat! how’s monterey looking this year?!
    • several people actually. they said “snoball, do you know who railbird81 is on coacht?” I said, “never heard of her.” they said, “you ought to check it out they’re getting fired up on there like the old days.” well, you can imagine my disappointment when I came here expecting sharp, witty banter and all i found was more akin to toddlers slap fighting. and what looks like 1 guy/gal talking to themselves with multiple accounts.
