Brentwood coach Dennis King retires

Recommended Posts

Seems to me the new coach wanted to bring in his own guy, Vince Carter Sr. to be an assistant this why you probably so the others leave.

Possibly. I just took a new job myself and brought my top assistant with me, but every assistant on the previous staff had the choice to stay or go and they all chose to stay. I realize each situation is different and each coach has his own preferences. I like having at least 1 or more guys who are familiar with the present players, administration, parents, situation etc...

No, it's because some assistants who wanted the head job went to other district schools where they were being recruited. In the short term, they felt more welcome at places where they weren't passed over.

At least one of them would have left anyway if the other got the job. No surprise either way. I heard this had something to do with the decision to look outside the box.

 Fresh startfter

Usually you do not want to be the guy who replaces a legend. It VERY rarely works out well. Ask every football coach after  Carlton Flatt at BA.  Heck ask Hatley what it was like replacing King the first time he gave it up.

any head coach in this kind of situation should be allowed to bring in their own people. having someone on staff that feels they should have had the job is chaos waiting to happen...maybe this would have been different but it has been my experience that it very rarely works...too much animosity.

    • Did this happen? Does anyone know? Ripley has their HC job posted on the bulletin board over the weekend.
    • Coalfield definitely isn't the same team they've had the past few years. They are still the favorites to make it out of their region because of their pitching. They have 1 arm that sits low to mid 80s and 2 other arms that are mid to high 70s with good off speed stuff. If you can avoid their top 3 bats in their lineup then you have a shot to beat them. Their 4-9 hitters are average at best. Wartburg's ace was able to shut them down last week in the game Wartburg won 4-2.
