NFHS Rule Changes

Parents need to focus on who is coaching their kids in the summer and the coach's qualifications more than pitch counts in HS.  Most HS coaches give a crap, most summer coaches????

For my son, the summer coaches are high school coaches or have been.

Qualifications?  If you are certified to teach the subject matter for the position that's hiring and there's a baseball coach opening, congratulations you can also be the baseball coach at a lot of the small public schools.  At least in summer ball, a parent can do their due diligence and try out for teams that have qualified coaches.  My son's summer coach has the Tommy John scar.  He counts pitches, has a days rest program and uses a lot of arms to get through the tournament or showcase.  Same for his high school coach.

And the answer for me is 3.  I personally know 3 high school kids that had Tommy John before their senior year.

    • Yes this process is moving slower than I would have expected
    • also was told coady auston applied, he served as defensive coordinator for greenfield under don pitt several years ago before going to Obion county
    • TSSAA restrictions for hiring non-faculty coaches have been removed for over a year at this point. In the past a non-faculty person had to be "grandfathered" by being an assistant coach for five years, being fingerprinted, and having a background check run per TSSAA rules... since those were rescinded, the board of directors for the school district are responsible for any/all restrictions on hiring non-faculty personnel. I guess what I'm saying to you is that if you really wanted what you posted, it's already possible as long as your local BOE will allow for it.
