  1. Your knowledge of high school soccer in TN is amazing. Sure people will argue over the selections, but just being able to make what looks like a fairly credible set of predictions is impressive.
  2. Coach G- You should indeed be proud of your boys. They show the same bravery in their posts as they do on the field. As for Mr. Tarr, to me he's like lightning in a bottle. When he gets out, it's stunning. I hope to get to see him play sometime in the State Tourney.
  3. I think just everyone who has posted on this thread should be commended on how constructive the comments have been. Perhaps as the level of excellence on the field continues to rise, the level of knowledge rises in the stands as well. I was particularly impressed with CoachJoeTB's analysis of the first offside call. As most of us know, offside in soccer is complicated for what at first appearance (especially to the relatively new or unsophisticated fan) seems to be fairly straightforward. A coaching point might be to make sure that the players know the nuances. I wonder if the supporting Farragut player who was judged to make a play from an offside position knew what he did? Probably. Many of us parents do not, though, which often leads to (incorrect) grumbling over what may have been an excellent call.
  4. I thought Catholics were Christians? Anyway, to add to the controversy, Farragut will beat Bearden again, this time 3-1. Give Farragut an edge due to home field, due to slightly superior overall talent, and due to a confidence springing from their belief they are peaking a little more than the Bulldogs right now. CAK will beat Catholic in OT, 2-1. CAK will simply be more determined to not lose two in a row to their sectarian rivals.
  5. Webb wins 1-0. I was wrong. Congratulations to the team and best of luck in the State tournament.
  6. Webb feels the heat--Baylor 2, Webb 1
  7. PinballWizard makes a good point...both are good teams but CAK plays more like a TEAM. Another factor is which team is improving. CAK has proven that they improve over the season. The clouds in my crystal ball are clearing away. CAK wins 2-1 in OT. Good luck to both teams, they may very well meet two more times before it's over.
  8. Boy oh boy, this is a tough one. Both terrific teams, very good finishers, tough defenses, good goalkeeping. I stared at my crystal ball for several minutes and all I see is overtime, but I don't see which team ultimately wins.
  9. Farragut turns the tables--a 3-2 win for the Admirals
  10. KFC Force wins the South/Central Region III Premier league (U18). That makes three TN ladies winners out of 5 age groups, with a possibility for a fourth in the U16 bracket if TNFC 91 beats SRFC Strikers.
  11. I wanted to expand on my prediction of 3-1 Bearden. Both teams are terrific and playing hot right now. I picked Bearden to win due to home field advantage and a hunch that Webb is due for a bit of a let down. We'll see.
  12. This is like a game of clue.
  13. I was at the game, too. I agree with the assessment that it was a fast paced game, enjoyable to watch. It was physical at times, too, but I'm not qualified to criticize the refereeing on some of the closer calls. One general comment (and complement) about the center ref. From where I was sitting he seemed to keep his composure in this emotional rivalry match, even though he gave Mr. Tarr two yellows and the CAK bench one. Another comment on Mr. Tarr. This was the first time I'd seen him play. He is truly a dangerous player with almost magical skills around the net. He had a couple of deep runs where he held the ball much longer than most you'd see (almost "Gretzkyesque") then he'd center the ball back to a teammate. Webb was ultimately able to defend these thrusts, but you held your breath as you watched him work. It was interesting to me to see how CAK responded at the very end when Mr. Tarr left the field. It seemed they elevated their collective energy level and they pressed Webb very hard for a couple of minutes. This was when CAK made a great shot and Mr. Baird made his terrific save. Overall the play was a tribute to both teams coaches and players. Personnally, I love CAK's skill and organization when attacking--very fun to see it unfold.
  14. Congratulations to Glory Johnson of Webb School of Knoxville who appeared in Parade Magazine this past Sunday as a basketball All American (3rd team). It's a huge accomplishment. I think TN's last Parade All American was Cait McMahan. Wonder how many there have been before Cait.
  15. Impact USA Nike U15 is coming on strong. If they win their two remaining games (both winnable), then they finish first. In general, TN teams are doing very well in the Central/South P.L.
  16. I'm assuming what soccerfan says is true. This definitely is a horse of a different color. I still agree with the excellent comments provided by posters on the 3 ref system. For another $30 - $40, take a collection up among the parents or something. This whole affair as described by soccerfan is very depressing for this soccer follower. There's a thug who somehow thinks it's okay to sucker punch another player, gloat about it, it does not get seen by the ref's, and so on. For a sport that wants to see itself as mature in the State of TN, it should be unthinkable that something like this would happen.
  17. As for UT, contact Angie Kelly or Scott Blount at the school.
  18. WOW UT would be great. If not UT, maybe Webb can be talked into hosting a double header. Nice full sized field allowing good players to showcase skills and close to all schools participating. It would be great for TN soccer. With the time change, you probably could get both games in before dark. Contact Dave Meske at the school.
  19. You make a good point, but I would recommend only 75 exclamation points.
  20. Just expressing their joy. No harm to anyone. Probably made a few (like me) smile.
  21. Webb loses 1 starter--Shayla Jackson. She's a good ball player, no doubt, and will be missed greatly. Returning starters are Glory Johnson (Jr), Faith Dupree(So), Jessica Goswitz(So), and Jessica Walter(Jr). Bench losses are Emily Dupree and Lauren Shepherd. Both are solid role players, very solid individuals, and will be missed also.
  22. Just in. Webb beats JPII by ~ 17.
  23. I agree with gamesetmatch. Webb should be favored; but anyone of several teams--including JPII, Lausanne, or BA--could beat them if they don't play hard and play well.
