  1. "Even if healthy won't be a productive in Div. 1 and it's not their fault." quote from mustcoach. What in the heck does that mean? I would take it to mean that you are blaming coaching, either in club or HS. Does that mean you are the only qualified coach for college-bound girls? If my source is correct, you only coached one season of girls that were in D1 state league. There are several girls in D2 that will eventually play Div 1 college, and there will be D1 girls that choose to play other than Div 1 college ball. Ability is only one of the determining factors. I doubt that you saw much if any club soccer that either of these two fine ladies played. Throughout their club ball they were playing in D1 and you, for the most part were at D2 tournaments. This is not to demean D2, just that you were in different places while these girls were playing. It is probably the exception that a true freshman will contribute much during their first year or two of Div 1 college ball, but it would not surprise me that these two girls will sooner or later see considerable playing time. With comment that are so far off base as yours, I'm doubtful that you have very many coaching colleagues.
  2. h20dog said............"How many names can you count on one hand that played beyond college, unless for fun or as a coach?" How true. And in fact you can include ALL women's sport and won't fill up one hand, just considering TN only. Check your ego and focus on education.
  3. I see what you mean. Must be the halo effect. Obviously over-ranked for 2 months.
  4. Whatever happens with Oak Ridge, shouldn't have anything to so with Father Ryan as far as Regions are concerned. But regardless of region, either a. you're not old enough to understand politics, or b. if you're old enough and don't understand it, you probably never will
  5. I think it is a fairly obvious answer. The boys are few in numbers in high school given the number of male athletes. The majority of the male athletes are in the 3 major sports. Some cross to soccer from FB, but not many. Therefore it is hard to consolidate any significant numbers for males at private school in soccer. It could be argued that soccer is the major female sport, especially when you look at numbers. The more affulent the zone, the more likelyhood of a concentration of female soccer players. Those same families may have the desire to go private, as well as the means to do so.
  6. I think the most common answer here will be: 'My Daughter"
  7. just read the story on McMinn v Cleveland. 38 shots on goal? Either that is a total shot count, not shots-on-goal, or the keeper had an outstanding 34 saves and/or Cleveland was deplorable on their finishes. In the article there were 5 cross-bar hits; that is NOT a shot on goal.
  8. Big G I believe you jumped the gun on this one. That 7 thing was just a simple statement of fact. Nobody has a bigger target on their back than Canes. Just another statement of fact. I know more than once you have bragged on CAK.
  9. I'm not taking sides one way or the other, but speaking of 'lip-stick on a pig.." CAK 15 - Loudon 0
  10. Einstein, aka Leftfooter,= Brilliant!
  11. Yes, you are correct in that Coach Dorrance's record speaks for itself. It would be nice to see quotation marks in your post to know for certain those are his words and not yours. Even though you may agree with him, it would eliminate that confusion. I suspect that the last paragraph or two are yours, not Dorrance's. Speaking as a parent, it is my obligation to try and be as impartial/neutral in my support of my child in all of his pursuits. Academically it is a little easier to judge as there is a grading scale. In sports there are many other subjective factors, including the possibility of a loss of objectivity by the coach, or bias in his decisions. I think we have all seen that as an athlete and as a parent. Some of what you have stated is correct; only if it were that simple to think that ALL coaches are perfect.
  12. The Q&A below were taken from the TSSAA web-site. They apply to about all HS sports even though the question states baseball and softball. For the complete set of rules see : http://www.tssaa.org/Handbook/handbook.pdf "Q. May a player participate in a scrimmage, practice game or game with an independent team after being registered with TSSAA in that sport? A. No. The student shall be ineligible immediately in the sport in which the violation occurs. 4. Q. Is it a violation for a registered athlete in baseball or softball to practice with an independent team? A. No, provided he/she participates in practice situations only (batting practice, infield practice, etc.), provided no game situations are involved"
  13. West certainly is not a powerhouse, but Powell hardly dominated a half, but did start the game strong. There were at least two other West shots off the uprights in the 2nd half. Overrated regards.
  14. I heard they changed locations, and thought that was a good thing. Anyone see the games?
  15. and just where were you last year??????

    AAA 2007

I have heard similar things about the coach, but they also have some very good players. Lets not denigrate the girls.

    AAA 2007

Yes, there are some excellent players on both teams. And to be competitive with teams from much larger metropolitan areas is a tribute to the Knoxville athletes, be it in state or out of state teams being played. It is a shame that there is so much animosity between the clubs. And so much false information from some coaches. I wish that those that say, "it is really about the girls" really meant it.

    D2 2007

Word is Greta Jochmann will be at Oak Ridge this year.......but is still worthy of All-State in any division.
  19. And it is not only in soccer......E.TN is well represented @ State in football, baseball, basketball, checkers, etc., both boys and girls
  20. Last time I checked the heisman trophy is voted on by writers. And based on the game the other night, boy, did they ever get that one wrong!!!
  21. "vindication" for what??? losing???? A tasteless comment from the Hendersonville web site IMO. There are a lot of very good teams, evidently some not- so- graceful- in- defeat teams. The real final poll was decided on the field. Some folks never get it.
  22. Quote: mjuhb: "its just a couple of bearden fans or parents twisting my words" Parent, no. Fan of good HS soccer which makes me a Bearden fan this year. Again, your words, not mine, no twisting. Look, mj, I know you are sincere about your soccer, and I appreciate what you do for the forum as well as what you are doing for girls' soccer, BUT, I have yet to see you CONGRATULATE the AAA state champs. Why is that so hard to do? They won, on the tough road, with what the TSSAA required.
  23. But you know, Farragut is the ONLY team that is scratching their head. They didn't win when it came crunch time, simple. Bearden did what it had to do for several games, beating the best ranked teams and that's what championships are all about. In fact, I would much prefer more teams in the playoffs than fewer, because that is what makes the cream rise to the top. It was Bearden's year. They win a championship and all you can think of is why they shouldn't even be there! Why is that not OK with you MJUHB? Not your team, your region, your pick? Just sounds like sour grapes to me.
  24. bruinsoccer, I agree with your assessment of the coaching situation, and I bet Papa-k was speaking in general terms, as there are some very good HS coaches. As the emphasis increases on good soccer programs, Principals and ADs will have to respond with more knowledgable, quality coaches. I believe we are seeing that evolution now. Plus, given the overall expansion of soccer and its fans, I think the pool of good coaches is growing, no doubt club soccer has a significant influence on that as well. So it appears things are changing for the better....now if only we can keep TSSAA from messing it up.
