  1. Best team, best player? There have been several teams, but the 92 FC Alliance team had 5 state championships and regional appearences. All of those girls had college offers. The surprising thing is how quickly priorities change and players simply make other choices, academics, etc. Also Kat Nigro played on National teams. From Livingston, played for Brentwood. Now plays with UNC. Lot of good soccer players every year throughout the state, but TN is NOT the hotbed for recruiting. IF the goal of a player is to play at the highest level, then exposure is everything. It that case, it would make sense to move to one of the 'spot-light' soccer hotbeds. OTOH, if playing in college is the goal, along with getting an education, there are plenty of opportunites for that in TN. Generally after 4 or 5 years of collegiate soccer, most will be ex-soccer players making a living at something else.
  2. Yep remember it well... and how absurd it was! He was pretty well roasted and it was just a matter of time until it proved itself out. The top girls in TN soccer are just as good as any, just may not be as many. He also mentioned one other player, but I only recall Porter. And for the most part, most all college girls have to pay something to go to school. It varys significantly. A large # simply have to walk on, esp. at most of the SEC schools. It is all about picking your priorities, and what you want out the college experience.
  3. Same ones used for the ESPN polls.
  4. nolife, could you please tell me the pay differential between 'soccer tradition' and a college degree?
  5. Fair enough, and I agree that the coaches have a better perspective, albeit biased. Most, but not all were at State. But you are free to post your Team. May make for some cold-weather entertainment.
  6. What do you mean "not as good".......the players? Or did this list just not include your favorite player? And of course the teams that made state get the most PR. All the players are very deserving, but as pointed out previously, any list will leave very good players out; it just depends on who made out the list. I think the coaches are probably the most knowledgable, but will have some bias. The writers list will always be from those that got the most exposure IMO. Each list is a honor, but Congratulations are in order for everyone that made either list.
  7. 435 is a bit of an exaggeration. And being mentioned All-State is no reason for embarrasement. They put themselves in the postition.....the coaches put them on the list. Having been in the interviews, I can't imagine a coach that hasn't done his homework and put someone on the spot for this recognition. They too place players on an ALL-everthing ballot, they know how it works.
  8. Doubt that it's a misprint. Several others have even higher GPAs. With honors and AP classes and a weighted GPA certainly possible. Congratulations to all.
  9. Swami's crystal ball may be a little 'cloudy'
  10. I didn't think TSSAA was involved with the naming of District awards such as this. I thought it was done by a meeting of the district coaches.
  11. Oak Ridge will play Sullivan South @ OR on Saturday. Should be able to advance to state from there. OR looked a little slower tonight, but considering the tough match last night with Bearden, that was expected. Won easily over West, but may have been different if their keeper had been in the line-up. Understand she had surgery earlier this week for a fractured finger she got during the game with Bearden
  12. Not if it is during regular season. The TSSAA does not allow tie breaking situations except for in the play offs. That's my point, the tie was during the district championship, which led to PKs, so if I'm reading you right, it would be a 1-0 loss, not a tie as listed by eurosport.
  13. The tie Bearden had with West, then lost in PKs, is that officially scored as a tie or a loss? The record reflects it as a tie, but I thought that a game ending in PKs goes down as a 1-0 loss.
  14. Oak Ridge 1 - West 0 From what I was told, West had a couple of good chances to score, but couldn't finish. OR dominated most of the game, with West's defense very strong and some exceptional saves and play by their goalkeeper. A lot closer than I thought it would be.
  15. any of you all pulling for UT to score another touchdown on Western Kentucky? You goin' to tell Urban to call the dogs off this week-end? I've been on both ends of this subject. I don't agree with leaving the starters in for more than the 1st half, but the rest of the bench needs to play, and the objective is to score, not 'toy' with the other team, which IMO would be much worse sportsmanship. Play the game, score, and if you don't like it, play better, don't schedule that team anymore, or push for a mercy rule.
  16. At times the keeper is can be very vulnerable, and if in the '6', a collison should result in a card to the offensive player. Outside of that, I think it becomes more judgement, is it truly a 50/50 ball, or does the keeper have possession, etc.
  17. yeah, that is really terrible, especially when he yells encouragement and compliments the other team. but perhaps he is helpful, and really interested in the team and good play. perhaps he knows a little bit about soccer. i wonder if it is more than conincidence that his daugher is in the U17 National pool? maybe we all should take notes.
  18. I agree that the two best teams should advance to PL. But give me some examples where that didn't happen. I'm sure it has happened, and probably in some very isolated instances. It happens all the time in every sport. But come on, I'm waiting, evidence please.
  19. Well maybe we should see a specific example. Did that prove to be an advantage at all levels, 50/50, or just a fluke? Should the PL teams play each other again in anything but a possible final? To the winner go the spoils.
  20. I understand your point of wanting the best two teams, but that is why there are two different brackets, based on what the teams have done throughout the season. The overall best format IMO is double-elimination. But as mentioned, that would take a week to play out. Someone's ox is always going to be gored.
  21. It just won't work out that way every year. What is important is getting the champ. Some times the best two teams wind up in the same brackett. The two best teams in football, baseball, etc may come from the same division......it just happens. Same with HS soccer. Some districts are just brutal, or the region for that matter. Everyone gets a chance when they step onto the field, it's what they do with that chance that matters.
  22. Just look at the topics.....but for now try this: viewtopic.php?f=29&t=196890
  23. Agree completely, except someone in admin would have to change/work. /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=" It's pretty much auto-pilot now. A few posts ago it was mentioned about exceptional years, senior class influence, etc. I think it would need to change year-to-year based on the most recent year's results. Scheduling wouldn't be much different, and the coaches can plan ahead, as they do now. The real difference is at play-off time.
  24. It's like most things........simply follow the money
