  1. SND. Cameron Hunt = fine player. Your boy will be too. From an old guy's perspective, it is remarkable that people are able to recover at all let alone at the speed at which they appear to be. When I played, or early in my coaching, torn cartiledge would get you "cut", and ACL/MCL tears would get you the "zipper." BTW, the "getting that step back" is @ least 80% mental. Have him google "psycocybernetics." Ask him to learn about it, and read some of the practical stuff, twice.. If he wants to play, it will help. ruse?
  2. Max3388. I am still mourning the end of this rivalry. Hopefully, I can get 2 more games out of it this year, and then hope that they can hook up non-region next. IMO, that is a possibility. I know that Fulton will play anybody, anywhere, anytime. I also know that Catholic has tried to hook up with Mville, Bearden, Acoa, etc. Mville is booked years ahead, and locked into the Blount Co. deal. Bearden flat out refused to play them last year, and I know Alcoa's JV/FR paly Catholic's,and that they also scrimmage. Maybe, they will continue. I'm sure the coaches will need to factor in potential losses though because of the potential playoff scenarios in the future. They are great games, hard. It's what the game is designed for. I really like the Demetrius Thomas kid at Fulton. Just a soph, but has some real potential. Went for about 200 a couple weeeks ago. Not Rogan yet, but he has some wiggle and toughness to him. Winters is coming along at QB. The Barfield kid, Styles, and Pritchard are playmakers, and all Winters needs to do is get it in their hands. They clearly have the ability to move the ball on both the ground, and through the air. I think some folks really feel that Fulton is down this year. Maybe a bit, but they are young, and IMO, that loss to Kingston last week should not be used by people as an indicator as to how down fulton might be; but, rather how good Kingston is. They are very good. Fulton still has size. Blasco, Phillips, Blair all go 3 bills, and Johnson is 270, but 6-7. It's just a matter of time before it clicks. If Fulton gets past, Catholic, and then AE, the rest of 3A, bets beware. As for Catholic, I've said a # of times, that I am surprised by their success this year. Hard to go 7-0 with 4 soph OL, and 5 soph starters on D. They have both played very tough schedules. As far as the recruiting thing, that stuff is overblown. People can say Catholic recruits or Fulton recruits; however, the reality is that kids want to go there because they win, play tough comp, and get exposure. The often overlooked part of this game, IMO is coaching. Being an old guy who has seen, and worked with many of them, these are two of the best in the business. Not just Knox, but anywhere. They both get the most out of their kids potential, love 'em, and kick 'em when needed. We'll see, but I'll pick the Falcons 20-17.
  3. Well, gangs all here. Photo, you have got to get Tad, 4mysister, road2three, and the rest to go to the Catholic site. Perhaps one of you younger computer guys could link it. It's knoxcatholicfootball.com. Anyway, it's got this link thing to a video highlight clip of Fulton's last second win in the quarters from 06. Awsome. Coach Black is hilarious. It's right on the front page under their update section. All things considered, even an old guy like me liked the music. ruse?
  4. 1brutalchcaw. Year in, year out 2-3A. This year, it is clearly possible that Kingston, Catholic, Austin East, Anderson County, Fulton could wind up in some sort of tiebreaker scenario. If; big if, Catholic gets past Fulton, and the Kingston over the next two weeks, they win it. Catholic beats Fulton, drops to Kingston, and then Kingston beats Austin East, Kingston could be champ. Austin East beats Kingston with Catholic dropping to both Kingston & Fulton (entirely possible), Austin East is in. Anderson County can't play spoiler. They beat Fulton & Kingston, but dropped to Catholic & AE. For those that don't think Kingston is capable of that, I will suggest, that they are every bit the team Livingston was when they won it. Lastly, Anderson County has had some trouble of late, but if corrected, they can go deep in the playoffs. Best QB in the Knox/Blount area, big lines, very fast/athletic receivers, solid run game, good LBs. Tough thing is one won't get in the playoffs. This is also the best Scott County team people around here have seen in some time. ruse?
  5. sportsnutdad. There is a "draft" every year that a bunch of guys do on the rivals main recruiting board where they select kids from the Jr class, and assign points on all kinds of criteria. These guys are the hard core 40,000 post recruiting nuts. I don't do it, but it is incredible info. Even a little weird. A Bama guy and a ND guy were going back and forth about him. He apparantly went to a bama camp or maybe somewhere else this past summer, and if I recall he didn't do any 1 on 1 stuff, but went through some other drills, and looked real good. They are all particular about ht/wt stuff, and said he was measured at 6-4, 315 at that camp. That was all they had on him, other than he was "drafted" in the 3rd or 4th round. This thing goes on for like a 3 days, and has maybe 25 rounds. They like the Stone kid from Maplewood, Bohanna from Memphis, the DE from Ooltewah, and the RB from Ensworth. Those were the only ones for 2010 in TN that I could remember. ZonePirate from South Pitt might know more. He's a big bama guy, and I remember him being fired up after Bama offered before he got hurt a year or so ago. ruse?
  6. HappyHour22. I'll tell you, going in, I really felt that this would be one of the most even years since the most recent reclassification. I felt that Kingston was poised for a nice year with the kids really starting to understand towards the end of last year, the Dave Meske/Webb offense that was being put in. Like their QB, RB, and OL/DL a lot. LBs and DBs tackle very well. I thought AE had the most talent, and still do. Just up and down. Score early twice on LA at home. Final is 14-0. What? Not even Turtle can rationalize that. LA seems to have made some real strides after the mid-point, players quitting, getting all that "stuff" to the curb, but still...at home? Still, LA is young, and is about where Kingston was 2 seasons ago. They will be very competitive wherever they fall out in the 09 classification. Book it. Scott for the first time since Al Gore invented the internet did not use said web to run off at the mouth, saved their energy, and by all accounts are playing very well. Stone Memorial is a much better team that they were last year. That whole budget fiasco this summer was so unhelpful to their cause, unfair to the kids, and the community at large, it made me puke. We bail out AIG, and can't get it right for the kids. Shame. AC. Still think they have the best QB in not only the region, but the whole knox/blount area. Love their speed outside. They have a 6-5, 190 lb WR that is a hoss. D1 talent. Big, strong lines, very good LB/DB. Wierd. Destroyed Oak Ridge in Jamboree, beat a nice Clinton squad, lose to Powell, and Catholic back to back. If they learn from those lessons, turn it back around, and improve, they could still go deep in the playoffs. Fulton. If they beat Kingston this week, and beat or play Catholic close, the next week , 4mysister, road2three, tadvols, and photo may as well book the hotels in the mid-state. The Fr are now So, the So, now Jr, and so on....leaves turn, Falcons start playing. That is a real good coach down there off Broadway. Real good. Now Happy, I gotta tell ya, the biggest surprise for me is Catholic at 7-0. Now I know the same logic should apply regarding their youth as it does to Fulton, but it's different. Over the years they might start a So here or there, but 4 sophomores on the OL, and 5 sophomores on defense. They lose Vann in the 1st game, Cozart hurt for most of the year so far, and out of a box of Lucky Charms jumps some kid who goes for nearly 200 against a decent rush defense in AC? I posted on the Catholic/AC thread that if you did not get Catholic this year, you might not ever. I watched them on Wazoo. They are going to be good for some time. Well in the regular season...could not resist. ruse?
  7. Ahhh. Home stretch in 2-3A. Whattawegot? Catholic has Fulton, Kingston, and Scott. Fulton has Kingston, Catholic ,AE, and LA. AE has AC, Stone, Fulton, & Kingston. AC has AE, LA, Scott and Stone. Scott has LA, Kingston, AC, and Catholic. Kingston has Fulton, Scott, Catholic, and Austin East. That is a lot of scenarios. We know the only team that can't lose Friday is Catholic. They don't play. Can AC get back to their winning ways after tripping up vs. Powell & Catholic? Or...will AE come out ripping it after a lackluster effort last week? If AC wins they have a good shot at #1 or #2. Their schedule is not as tough as some of the others. Game at AC, I'll roll the dice, and say Mavs. AC will then need to beat Scott, LA, and Stone to finish 6-1. Kingston is a bear at their place. Nearly beat both AE & Catholic there last year. Let's say they win a close one vs. the Falcons. Jackets still need to get past Scott, then Catholic, and AE, the last two of which are on the road. Kingston comes in at 5-2. Fulton drops at Kingston, beats Catholic at home, then beats AE at home and LA @ Hogeye land. Wind up 5-2 right? Lost to AC early. AE drops at AC, @ Fulton, and pick up wins vs. Stone, and Kingston. 4-3. Sooo. 1. Catholic 6-1, but win vs. AC. 2. AC 6-1. 3. Kingston 5-2. 4. Fulton 4-3. Happy Hour might be right? Be funny to see Fulton dump Catholic in the 1/4 finals. Fulton will get better and better. All they need to do is get in.
  8. Must say, I was wrong. Just thought with those 3-4 soph OL, and 4-5 sophs on D, that AC would out physical, and out experience that young Catholic team. Congrats to them, and Coach Pemberton. Good coach right there.
  9. Mid-state. Scouting the Ensworth RBs. They have a couple. Tavares Jefferson. Folks seem to really like him.
  10. Photo, Its' true. I saw her. Her day job is waving at drivers on Cedar Bluff as a sandwich sign for Papa Johns. As her hand was raised, I saw the "pit." It is braided, with a sharpie drawn smiling face. Looks just like Antonio Hammilton under there. I suuweeerrr. ruse?
  11. A collective gathering of the circa 1984 "Boom Box" cranking Luda might turn a trick, well no pun intended on the "turn a trick." Ho, ho, ho; whoo, I cainnnt stup mysef.
  12. Photo is back. See you are doing well brother!f9d! Will the Highlanders Homecoming attire top the sequins, glitta, and stone cold pimpim displayed off Broadway at the Falcons homecoming last year? ruse?
  13. Fulton started out 0-3. They also started out 0-3 in 05. Had some young players then as well. Antonio Hamilton, Blake Gildner, the older Winters, James Higgins, Cobb, Wagner and oh, this young RB named Rogan. They rolled past evrybody else until Harrison Smith caught a TD with time running out to get Catholic past the Falcons in the 3rd Round. The Falcons took out the # 5 4A team in the state last week in Morristown East. Fulton is rounding into shape. It's time for their annual run. Turtle is right. ruse?
  14. This one just got a lot more interesting. Have thought for some time that AC had the best blend of experience and talent in 2-3A. AE has most talent, but just like clock-work, here fomes Fulton knocking off the #5 ranked 4A team in the state. AC has Rogers, Longmire, the Fullback, nice size up front on both sides, and a lot of SRs. Absolutely shocked that Catholic is 6-0. 4 Soph starters on the OL, 4 or 5 Sophs start on defense, no Vann or Cozart. It's not like either team has played slouch teams either. Wierd season. Don't know how all the reclassification things will shake out, but if AC is going to get Catholic, it better be this year, because it would seem that they are going to be good for some time. ruse?
  15. Biggun: Any word on what DL will do (D II, 5A w/multiplier, etc)? Thanks old friend. ruse?
  16. Max. Hard to tell. Baylor played MBA tough, but not sure they are at the level some might think. I know they beat Cincinnati Moeller, but by most accounts they are no better than # 5 in Cinci behind St Xavier, Princeton, Elder, etc. They seemed to hang with BA, and were ahead at the 1/2, and then folded up. I have heard that they have a stud RB, Williams, just a JR. Offensive Line and Defensive Line are SRs. Think they have a very good WR also. Have not seen Catholic yet this year. Waiting for the Anderson Co. game. Do know, as I'm sure you do, they are very young. Something like 3 or 4 Sophs starting on the Offensive Line, and 5 Sophs starting on D. I say Baylor because of the experience up front. Spartansoccer above might have the score about right. Guess the good news is, being that young, this would be the year to beat up on Catholic because no matter what region or division they wind up in, they are going to be tough for a while. They have a website called knoxcatholicfootball.com but I'm too old to know how to do all the fancy linking stuff. ruse?
  17. Webb by a couple of scores. Spartans control the ground game, and the clock. CAK hurries, when perhaps they need not, and Webb pressures mistakes. Repeat of last year. Warriors really miss Bennett. Kolinski is very good, but not the defensive player Joe was, IMO.
  18. Anderson County is the top Region 2-3A team right now. Catholic plays Baylor, Anderson Co., and then Fulton. It is entirely possible for them to lose all three of those games. AC has the best combination of experience & talent in the region, been dominating the opposition, and have Catholic at AC this year. AC has the best QB in the Knox/Blount/Anderson Co. area in Paul Longmire. Vastly under-rated. Baylor is improved over last year's team, and always has talent (Kevin Cooper/Jacques McClendon), and that game is at Baylor. The last time Fulton started 0-3, Rogan was a JR, and they went to Catholic and destroyed Harrison Smith and that team by 4 TDs. Lastly, Catholic is very young. I understand they start 4 Soph OL, and 4 or 5 Soph on defense. They will get to the playoffs, but Anderson Co. will be in their way this year. Great RB, very good FB/LB, some very good OL/DL, and some nice skill guys. Lipscomb, Marshall Co., McMinn, and even Jackson South S., when they are clicking, are as good or better than Catholic at this point in time. ruse?
  19. Thanks for the info on Tait, Max. I saw the kid play against Fulton as both a FR and SO. Kind of lost track of him. Fulton had a DL by the name of Antonio Hammilton (Antwan's older brother) who was an SEC level talent who got sideways. Tait was the only kid I saw who could deal with him, and when Hammilton was a SR, and Tait was a SO, Tait got the better of him a few times. The kid is one of the best young drive blockers I've seen in a long time, but I actually like him better as a DT or on the Nose at the next level. Kid can run. I checked out his DL highlights on that knoxcatholicfootball.com site and it is a very nice. I'm looking forward to the Brentwood/Ravenwood game:) ruse?
  20. Rocking Chair & Max3388. RC. 1. LA's run was awsome. One of the better one's I have seen. Euclid OH had one with Robert Smith (Ohio State & ESPN guy back in the late 80's that was along those lines. 2. Best place to be is at TC/SC game or one like it. Alcoa/Mville, Fulton/Catholic, MoWest/MoEast, or this week Brentwood & Ravenwood. It is America, and a good # of the kids I played with, and or played for me died defending it. Remember that some of those we watch this Friday may do the same. God bless them. 3. Yeah, I do tend to root for Fulton. I was involved with both privates and publics, and I tend to fall along the line of publics. Having said that, Catholic is about as much of a "public" atmosphere as a private could. You can tell that a good # of those parents sacrifice a lot to send their kids there. Not snobby at all. The kids do play tough. But Fulton, man those kids are solid. Coatney is just fantastic. Best recruiter in Knoxville, by far. 0-3 this year. Last time they started 0-3 was 05 when Rogan was a JR. Catholic knocked them out in Round #2, and then The Wildcats, and Mr. Cates rolled on. Max3388. 1. What's the deal with Tait? Will he be back this year, or will he not play until next, and be 2010 kid? As I remember, he was being recruited by a lot of folks...is he still, and if you know, who? Thanks. ruse?
  21. Thanks Rocking Chair. That was the kid I was thinking of. Not affiliated with any particular school. Just an old retired coach from Ohio that came down here about 15 yrs ago. Gave up on the NFL, and most college ball as well. For the most part, a fan of "programs" not players. Fan of Fulton, Alcoa, Maryville, Catholic, DB, Farragut, BA, MBA, Lipscomb, South Pitt, Smith Co., Hillsboro, and some others. I really took a shine to LA a few years back. Seemed like they had a lot of the pieces of the puzzle. Players, admin, coaches, community, etc. Just didn't work out. Was really interested to see what would happen w/Stone Memorial. We'll see. Show me a good high school program, and I'll show you a community of rock solid Americans. We need more of both, IMO. ruse?
  22. Hey Rocking Chair. I'm good. Headed to the mid-state this week to check out Brentwood vs. Ravenwood. Still keep an eye on things in Overton Co. though. See where Cates is still doing well at Princeton. What happened to the Center for the 05 team? Think he was a JR. then. Big kid, fair feet, but not much bend. Probably 6-5, 270 or so. ruse?
  23. hihamhound. After what happened last year with the Tait kid's knee, you might want to go easy on the "Once you've worn those knees out..." chatter. ruse? Whats up ole Rocking Chair. Haven't been through your neck of the woods in a while. Still got those Ribeye sammichs? ruse?
  24. Longmire can play. Thought AC would win. Have said pretty much all along AC had the best combination of experience/talent in the region. AE has the most talent. Fulton and Catholic are both young. Both have sophomores all over the place. Rogers had a great game for AC. Congrats to them. One could compare them to LA from a few years back. Should be an interesting year in 2-3A. Don't count out Kingston or Scott for a fourth spot. How goes the studies Road? ruse?
