  1. Thank you cbg for adding E.J. Junior to the list. He along with Preston Brown and Ronald Hale, all of Maplewood in the early 70's, were absolutely outstanding! Watched many a game with Preston and Ronald and then a few years later E.J. playing some of the best football I have ever seen!!
  2. titans1221 is not too far off base folks. Again, let me go on record as saying I hate what happened to Gallatin. I'm very sure that the information they submitted to the TSSAA was the information they received from the boy and his parent(s). With this being said, how many high school coaches have faced this problem at the beginning of the season? Salty asks the same questions many of us coaches ask ourselves everytime we get a transfer person in our program/school. Every program handles things differently. What many programs do, ours included, is to ask for several pieces of documentation up front. Such as: 1. Give us a copy of your phone bill and electrical bill. This proves the person is now in our "zone" and has established a legal "bona-fied change of address". Keep in mind it helps to have both parents name on this if possible. Or at least the person who has custody. 2. A copy of custody papers. This only applies if biological parents are not together. We point blank ask them who they live with and if they say "my parents" we then ask if they are your natural parents. If mom has custody yet he says he lives with dad he is ineligible. And keep in mind, whoever has custody is the only name which belongs on the transfer forms. Not a step parent! I have heard this was the problem with the Gallatin issue. (Maybe not, there are alot of rumors out there). Custody papers are a must! 3. Transfer papers from previous school. Including his/her high school records. Many times this has info such as custody information. We ask for a copy but until the official records are in the building we don't list them as eligible yet. Even going above and beyond this, there is no 100% fool-proof way you may not get hoodwinked by someone. Coaches and school personnel know this but the person in the general public does not. We have had several parents to bold face lie to us to try to get their child to play ball. If a parent refuses to provide any of the above information, the case is closed....INELIGIBLE until we receive the information we requested! Parents do get upset sometimes but they don't fully understand our situation. Lassiter or any coach should not have to hid in bushes or any jumping thru hoops to get a person eligible! I'm sure there may be 1 or 2 out there somewhere, but I don't personally know of a single coach that would jeapordize their entire program for playing an ineligible player. I firmly believe that Coach Lassiter and Gallatin submitted the information they were given by the boy and his parent(s). However, it apparantly was not the ENTIRE information they needed for him to be eligible. That information is what came up later in the season. This is by no means a slap at anyone on this board however, unless you are a coach, athletic director, principal, or other school personnel you don't fully have an understanding of what is involved in regards to eligibility, especially transferrs. Nobody knows who is really posting on here but i'd be willing to bet the ones doing the bashing are not coaches or school personnel. They/we understand the delimas of the issue. I'm sure this issue will live on for a while. My purpose was to get some of the heat off of TSSAA (all they are doing is enforcing rules on paper) and to let Mr. John Q. Public have some understanding on how this could happen. Best of Wishes to all in the Playoffs
  3. Let me give you a little heads up on the future of high school basketball rules. The "person" who is in charge of the committee for National Federation rules is a former Womens' College Basketball supervisor. SHE has proposed many rules which are exactly like the rules of the women's college game. Don't be suprised the next several years to see more of the Women's College Rules make their way into National Federation High School gyms!
  4. Most of these games were moved on the front end months ago. People are just now concerned about reporting them. I'm quite sure both schools / teams knew before the season started!
  5. WE WANT BUSH...... WE WANT MORE BUSH!!!!! Viva La Cheetos!!

Since when is Springfield in "metro"?? Go back and check your geography
  8. The TSSAA has the same reply to everyone who places a phone call about something. PUT IT IN WRITING AND WE WILL INVESTIGATE! They get calls from every tom, dick, and harry across the state and the reply is the same. I'd guestimate that half to two-thirds of the calls to TSSAA are either bogus or people don't wish to pursue the matter because they have to give their name.
  9. Cutback, One little flaw in your playoff picture. Antioch is not a lock for the region championship if they win over Hendersonville this week. If Hunters Lane beats Gallatin this week and Antioch beats Hendersonville, this sets up a showdown next week between Hunters Lane and Antioch for the championship. If Hunters Lane loses to Gallatin and Antioch beats Hendersonville this week, then Antioch is the champs after week 9.
  10. Ok folks, just purely asking this: Did the parents present the TRUE picture to the Gallatin staff? If Gallatin had to ask twice, does that not say anything to the question of his eligibility? Coaches can present only the information that they are given by a 15-18yr old kid and his parents. How many times have we all heard of a kid lying and the parents lying for him? Having some knowledge of past eligibilty problems, a school can only report to the TSSAA what they are told by a kid and his parent(s). And the TSSAA can only rule on the information they are given by the school. There have been several cases over the years of the TSSAA ruling a kid eligible only to later rule ineligible because of new evidence supposedly "forgotten to report" previously. I have no doubt that Gallatin sent in what they were told. I'm quite sure Coach Lassiter would not risk a season for one player, hence the second call about his eligibility. Also, the gossip is that Kyle has one or two younger siblings still in the McGavock High cluster of schools. This is what maybe raised the eyebrows of McGavock? Again, just purely asking a point to ponder
  11. 82 Kitty, Here is my point. Robert Lassiter and Bruce Hatfield are two fine coaches. However, you put them at a Metro school and see how they fare. You take a Richard Campbell / Buddy Brown (Hunters Lane) or a Ron Adelyott (Hillsboro) and put them at Gallatin or Hendersonville and you probably would not notice a difference. Also, not every metro school is alike. Some are very disciplined. I notice both Antioch and Hunters Lane have very few penalties this year and both seem to be clicking fairly well this year. One other thing people need to understand, there is an unwritten rule that metro teams play each other. You have natural rivalries. Many of these kids live in close neighborhoods to each other. Hunters Lane vs. Maplewood and Whites Creek are "have to play games" just as much as Antioch vs. Hillsboro and Glencliff. If Beech, Gallatin, and Hendersonville were not in the same region, would there not be an outcry for them to play each other?
  12. 82 Kitty, I didn't realize Howard Cosell was still alive! You seem to have all the answers concerning ALL metro teams. I'm sure with the many Rhodes Scholar Athletes many county schools deal with during football that they make anyone a great looking coach. Come take the kids that metro coaches deal with on a daily basis with all of their problems and see how you make it Knute Rockne! Have you seen Hunters Lane play? Looking at their stats, their defense looks awful good, and I understand their defensive coordinator has done a good job comming in this year with a new look. Come on Kitty Kat, tell us all about your philosophy dealing with Rhodes Scholars.
  13. Congratulations to the Lady Warrior Softball team for not only making it to the state but, as of this post, making it to the final 3 in the state. An excellent job has been done by Coach Richard Rocahe and Coach Pat Hankins. With that being said: In case many of you have not heard, Coach Roache was taken to the hospital before the Lady Warriors first game on tuesday with chest pains. At first the doctors thought it was a panic attack. However, after running tests that night and the next day, the doctors found 5 blockages and is undergoing open heart surgery in Memphis on Friday morning. Please keep him in your prayers. The Lady Warrior Softball team has persevered and is keeping on winning. There are five seniors on this team which missed their graduation last night (Thursday). Coach Hankins is doing an outstanding job in the absence of Coach Roache. Best of Wishes to the Lady Warriors, Coach Hankins, and most of all, Hang in there Coach Roache, take care and come back home soon

It might be better to post WHO IS PLAYING instead of who is not!
  15. Your not going to find a nicer young man anywhere than Jeremy. Not only is he a tremendous athlete, especially baseball, but he is a great person. Through all of the turmoil in his life the last several years, he has held his head high. It would have been easy for him to "fall by the wayside" but he has made it and will graduate in May. Best of luck to Jeremy, remember, THE SKY IS THE LIMIT!!

If I remember correctly, Willey left the LaVergne girl's program when he either became or is going to become an elementary principal. Would Rutherford County allow him to be a principal and coach or would he have to decide which of the two he wanted to do?
  17. Jeremy Lassiter, Hunters Lane High School, hands down! I'd take him first pick over most anyone else in the state. Has a great first step, range, exceptional speed, and a good arm. Not to mention his good bat! He has been projected to draft very high!
  18. Does a good working VCR go along with that TV and a bag of Cheetos?
  19. Moonwink, Did you say Shadow gave us a clue or shadow needs to GET a clue? People have been telling him that for years (especially the bama crew)! Viva la Cheetos!!
  20. Why need to bring in referees from other states? The referees at the state tournament DO NOT work any games in which a team from their area is involved. A official from memphis would not work any games involving teams from the memphis area which they work in the regular season. And the crack about the calls being fair to both sides, do you mean that all referees in Tennessee are crooked enough to call every game one sided? That is one of the most absurb things I have ever heard. I'll assure you that the referees who make it to the state tournament have been watched numerous times over several years BEFORE they are invited to Murfreesboro. Knightcourt, yes some things may get missed in the course of the game. It's amazing that the same people who scream out to let the kids play and stop calling fouls are the same ones that yell "call the foul" or "you need to get control of the game" when the play gets a little rough. A referee is not going to make everyone happy with every call. Some people have nothing better to do with their lives but to go to a gym on Tue. & Fri. nights and yell at the referees just because it makes them feel better about their lives. Remember, it is just a game in the end and when when you, I, and others are long gone from this earth, THE GAME WILL GO ON WITHOUT US!
  21. Over the last several years, the process has been laid out to officials across the state. Referees are sent to an "invitational camp", usually only 2-4 per association, and evaluated. At the end of camp, supervisors across the state evaluate each official and will put them on "lists" of things like "ready now for state", "one to two years away", or "lets look at them again in 3-5 years. Once you get on the ready or 1-2 yr list, you are seen and evaluated many many times. In November of each year, supervisors send in a list of names from their association to the state of all officals who they feel are ready for the state. The TSSAA makes the decision from there after their own evaluations. Each year there are first time state people as well as officials who have been there before together. It is a long process!

    Officals

It is always amazing to me that when you have more fouls called against your team than your opponent that it is the referees fault. However, if the other team has more fouls on them, YOUR team is playing great defense!! Could McMinn have been actually fouling alot and Beech backed off and not fouled? I've never seen it in the rule book where it says the referees had to make sure the fouls were equal in number for each team. If I have missed it, please show me
  23. That is why it is called a "BLIND DRAW"!! Anyone can attend if they wish. It is not done behind closed doors nor is there any trickery involved. Quit trying to make something out of nothing. It is based purely on luck of the draw. Some years you may get a #1 vs #2 matchup while other years you get #1 vs #4 or whatever. Play the game, support your team, and most of all, QUIT WHINING ABOUT THE DRAW!! It is a fair and just draw.

    Metro Football

Shadow, Well it is apparantly true, "The Shadow knows"!! You looked into your bottle of Geritol and foretold the future of head coaches in Metro and it was very correct. I understand you have the list of principal changes that are forthcoming as well! Should certain people on here beware ?????????  Rember: ONLY THE SHADOW KNOWS
  25. Tiffany Arnold went down during Christmas with a ACL knee injury and had surgery on it 3 weeks ago. She was a big loss for the team. However, the rest of the ladies have stepped up and have done a great job picking up the slack. Coach Tribue will have them ready again on Monday for the regions!
