    Why No Band?

Seeing that the OP is also posting about cheerleaders not being at rescheduled ballgames leads me to believe that he is a [/size]TROLL. Oh, and to defend the Tullahoma band; not only do they perform on Friday nights; but starting in mid-September they are in competition on Saturdays for the next 8 weeks...and then they have other performances. AND...even with the excellence of the football team; there are a lot more Tullahoma band students on full scholarships to college than there are football players at a given time. So I would be very careful trying to justify the band's existence solely on the football team. That shows incredible ignorance on your part. In short...performance at football games is only one of many performance obligations for the band...and is not; believe it or not, their primary reason for being. And I would advise you to know what you are talking about before you start spouting your cut-and-paste diatribes. Much less insulting KIDS...which I find incredibly inmature and abhorent.
  2. Had a chance to pass the stadium again this weekend...that sucker is going to be HUGE!!!!! (At least for 3A..) Looks like they took advantage of that hill, too...that thing is going to have some elevation. Any word on completion date?
  3. I had some business in the Robertson County area recently; and had a chance to pass by the Greenbrier HS stadium on several occasions. I noticed one day the beams going up for the new grandstands.....then a couple of weeks later they were taken down! Is everything OK over there?
  4. The TSSAA has no authority over school facilities insofar as non-athlete usage. None. Like to see them try to get THAT into court..
  5. Can't use Reds, though...it will insult the Socialists. Remember...we must be sennnnisssitivvvee to the offfeeennnddded....
  6. Well, EXCUSE ME, Big Country! How could I ever forget about Ridgeway? I am humbled by your greatness...I just hope you never make a mistake Now I wipe the egg of my face. I think I still stand that not only 2-3A is a bloodthirsty region; but they invariably meet each other in the 2nd and 3rd rounds of the playoffs as well. Yet the one standing by semi's tends to be tough as nails; blooded by battle and ready to meet all comers. The records still show that fact. There is life in MC's region, indeed...but being beaten up in region play just doesnt hold a lot of water when you have seen the cut-throat competition in 2-3A. (Even with a couple of teams down this past year...)
  7. Let's see...which district has had 5 or 6 state championships in a row... Case closed. Go 2-3A!
  8. In the 90's MC had a open-registration policy that allowed out-of-county students to attend if they paid a fee to cover the county costs. This was discontinued when they started to have problems with some of these students (primairily the ones who transferred due to disciplinary problems in their previous schools). Ironically, there was a controversy concerning a Moore County resident who went to Shelbyville to play basketball with Rick Insell...and a lot of hard feelings followed. Some twist, eh?
  9. I respectfully do not see how. White House is reloading, Greenbrier just had a rebuilding year this past season, Sycamore and Macon will be good...and frankly, it is going to take a LOT for DeKalb to repair years of neglect. They will be better; but it is a tough schedule. I just cannot see them at that level yet.
  10. It will be pretty tough...although the advantage of playing in the Region of Champions is that your game will be elevated by the level of the competition. Of course, with 6-7 games in the region, it will be tough to take advantage of that at first...
  11. The problem can be if the administration listens to those who are loud, or even allows them to keep flapping their jaws thinking they have the ear of the administration, then anyone trying to get anything constructive done had better FORGET about it. Herein lies the problem I see at LA. And I find it amazing that just one year removed from a state championship that no one is knocking down the doors for this job. Coaches talk to each other...I wonder if there is word going around about a problem in this job?
  12. THAT is a big red flag. It could very well be that he interviewed so he could either see whether some of the political problems that very well kept him out the previous two times are resolved...or he did it to give himself a chance to express point-blank some of the problems that are currently inherent in the atmosphere there. (That is not altogether outside of the realm...I have known people to take interviews just to express their displeasure about certain situations to the powers that be.) I have to throw this out, however...how much of a problem is it that Matt Eldridge is still in the school system...and in high administration at the central office? I would think there should not be...but I could be wrong
  13. Oooohhh, I am soooo scared. Frankly, I cannot see for all the world why either one of those men would want this job after all that has happened...especially if they are dealing with people like you. It would be WAY beneath either one of them.
  14. Sounds like you need some whine with that blue cheese you are making If you are a parent you are setting a pitiful example for your child. If you are a student you have absoulutely no perspective in how a team should be run and the dynamics that affect year-to-year success. If you are/were a player with your attitude you probably do not belong on that team. And if you are a fan, you show next to no knowledge of what you team had to deal with last year. You need to go rent another rock to crawl back under Hogeye does NOT need you.
  15. Let's add to this. Remember all the close games this team won during the regular season in "05...and the region it plays in. LA could have easily lost several more games and not even made the playoffs...much less that gold ball. Also...take a look at the turnover of starters and the youth of this year's club. Put that in a region that makes hamburger meat of EVERYONE in 3A and it is easy to see how a 1-9 season could happen. (Just ask David Lipscomb how tired THEY are of region 2-3A.....) And to Beamon...knowing some of the parents that Danny no doubt had to deal with he would be well within his right to give some of them the bum's rush. One's right to peace and civility does not end when he signs on as a coach!!
  16. Yes...but I am not airing that dirty laundry here. But I agree to the letter with what you say above... There are people there that will try to force their will on anyone who they do not agree with; and this can make it tough on anyone who tries to honestly do their job and hold a tough line...and I know administration well enough to know that they will allow too much of an ear to the malcontents without telling them directly that the COACH runs the program; either get with it or get out. That is what I have observed and that is what concerns me.
  17. I would be very surprised to see Maynord take this job...there is a faction in the county that would not support him...and that includes a segment of board members who want to maintain their control over aspects of the program. With him knowing this I doubt he would leave what is a good situation to one that has all of a sudden gotten dicey.
  18. I respect your position, but I have to disagree with a qualifier. The parents have a right to expect quality instruction, a following of school policy, a safe but challenging environment for their child to be in, to be kept informed of progress and problems, and to know up front the expectations of the program and that their child will be held responsible to those expectations, with appropriate consequences (including disqualification from the team in serious infractions). They do NOT have the right to run or interfere with the program, to expect special treatment of their child at the expense of the team and the program, to advise their child to ignore team guidelines, and to continually stir up controversy. They may 'pay the bills,' but they do NOT make decisions on playing time, position, practice expectations (as long as they are safe), or any other matter of the actual operations of the program as regulated by the board and law. If these lines are crossed in a group/team activity you have anarchy. All you have to do is look at the consistently losing programs in the region and the atmosphere surrounding those programs and you will find the reason why they are losing and unstable. I have observed SOP at the school; and although there is a hard line talked concerning parental interference I have seen too many times that the malcontent minority are given too much voice and that too much time is spent pacifying them. And that there is at times unrealistic demands put on the sports programs insofar as won-loss records....and the ubiquitous 'playing time' expectations of some parents. This is common; but how the administration handles the chronic complainers can determine the stability of the programs. IMHO there is an increasing failure by the administration to keep this in check..and to even play politics, and this led to Danny throwing in the towel. And that is a dammed disgrace
  19. They changed the policy in the mid-90's due to some of the problems the outside students were causing, especially at the high school. It was an option for students who got in trouble in their district schools to dodge suspension/expulsion. The size of the county could have forced a rethink on that as much as anything...it seems like the quality of the athletic programs dropped after the change. (It can also be a purely monetary move as well...gets the ADA up )
  20. My question is: would anyone in their right mind go down there, given the political climate and the interference in the program by the parents? And, I would count Mac out. He will NOT go back to somewhere where he was not wanted. (or, at least I would be very, very surprised )
  21. I have been a lurker on the boards for awhile, but I feel like I had to say something. Danny McCoin is a first-rate coach and person. I had the privelege to see him work; and to also know the school he worked in; and he ran the program with class, competence and skill...and with the needed strong hand that you must have to not only teach but to control the players in the way needed to succeed. I cannot for the life of me understand the mindset of the people who were complaining except for ignorance...or revenge. Yes, he showed players the door. I can verify that Matt did the same thing. It is not PC to say so, but you have to weed the doers from the sitters; if you do not, you do not have an atmosphere conducive to excellence. And it is not the parents that set the policy and standards of the program; it is the coach. And it should always be that way. And I suspect (and this is with inside knowledge of the present administrative climate) that administration had way, way too open of an ear to the complaintees in this situation. (I am sure complaintees were a small minority, but unfortunately this administration has a problem holding a firm line.) Anyone who had any idea as to how the game is played, and any knowledge of the program itself knew it was going to be a massive rebuilding season. And Matt Eldridge is a very tough act to follow. But...Danny has been part of this play longer than Matt has. He KNOWS how to rebuild this program. This is his 2nd stint at this school; and in his first one he went from a weak first year to leading them to the playoff in 3 years. He was also a HUGE part of LA's gold ball of '05. He would have brought them back if he had been left alone. The way that Danny was treated is a disgrace. I, for one, would not blame him if he did not look back on his way to greener pastures. He (and his son) deserves better. Good luck and Godspeed, Danny.
