  1. Man, I would not have believed the lack of understanding the people on the hill understand about the situation you have if I had not experienced it one time... Don't you even realize that anyone with knowledge of this political and community situation in Macon Co. spells doom for anyone who comes here and tries to do the job that has to be done? You will not get anyone GOOD with any experience because 1) they will have MANY other far more attractive options to choose from; 2) they will not take a step down from where they are now (and frankly, it will be a step-down due to the politics); and 3) they will have talked to numerous other coaches who KNOW the problems that have occured, and why they have occured, in Macon County. You might get someone new or making the change over from assistant to head coach; but if they have any talent and are working with people who know what is going on in the county they will steer their proteges away, FAR away, from this job. Frankly, until the politics in this county change, it will always be that way...and the only person you will get will either have a spotty background and record, or will be absolutely bamboozled into taking it. And it is sad for the kids...but isnt it true that the kids unfortunately always pay for the sins of the adults? Sorry to say, but this is a fact; and it would be a very, very, VERY rare person who could step over this minefield (that is laid as tight as the old Brickyard) and bring all the factions together and make that work without getting hung out to dry. And that person has already been crucified once...
  2. Here is my two cents worth, for what that will buy you: The politics in Macon County is incredible..if you please one group you tick off the other; and neither side will budge. I know..I had some dealings with the people up there over 20 years ago; and frankly, it was an insane asylum. It is not by happenstance that coaches cannot keep their jobs; it is just impossible to deal with the social and political situation in the county (and if you need anymore proof; read the RBS threads..) and people in the coaching community understand that. (Potential candidates have been told what has happened there and advised to avoid that job. I have seen this first-hand..and not by me.) Even people with strong community ties have problems there; for they will either run afoul of one or the other factions, or the people who hired them. I saw this; and others who I have known who have been up and down the hill have expressed the same. Frankly, there are some families up there that have pulled the strings and have control of the county that will never be happy; and rivalries between different factions that turn everything into a Hatfield/McCoy battle...and the football program has been one of the battlefields. It will not end until ALL those factions are rendered powerless. And in a small town isolated by location and geography; well, good luck. IMHO, it is a no-win situation up on the hill...and there are just some communities that are like that. And personally, I would not touch it with a 10-yd stick.
  3. Dear Lord...what a horrible thing. My prayers for the comforting of the family and friends of these young people..now in the arms of God. Parents...hug your children tonight. We never know....
  4. Can you Macon County people at least have the decency to take your usual town and country whining off the public blogs?? You will NOT get anyone decent over there while you people continue to act like this. The county already has a reputation for being impossible to deal with...and do not think coaches don't see this garbage. They do...and they will avoid Macon County like the plague. Shame on all of you.
  5. I was at the game as a neutral fan....It looked like it was a pick-off attempt that bounced up in the air and recovered by Ziegler; he headed for the endzone; the ball was knocked out and into the endzone by a JPII defender and covered after a scramble by Greenbrier. Another little tidbit..Greenbrier's QB had just come back from having his bell rung...the previous play the reserve QB actually took a delay of game penalty to allow the starter to return for the big play. Planned? If so, it was a good move by the 'Cat coaches. Game-winner, as a matter of fact. This game was won on the backs of the Cat defense...they scrapped like wild cats to hassle both runners and backs in order to slow down JP's potent offense just enough for the offense to find its sea legs. Great game to watch! Gotta love the new stadium, too. You guys on the ridge did a whale of a job with the rebuild!
  6. That will not work...liability issues would preclude individual travel for school group events. Frankly, though...I would be concerned about some politician at the state board level trying to look good and banning extracurricular travel of ANY kind to be 'conservation-minded' and giving the finger to anybody who argues otherwise. Look at what Congress is doing...it could happen.
  7. All I know is that this is going to be a great game. DL has got to be hungry enough to eat concrete for this championship...and you cannot say they dont have experience or motivation. As good as Fulton is (and they are nothing short of a dynasty) I think this could be DL's. And nothing personal against the Falcon, but it would only be just for DL to get the gold ball. Of course, justice has NOTHING to do with football.. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  8. I am surprised this thread has not been shut down as of yet. Noting that the OP is under a new name with only 5 posts this just looks like another troll. However, I will give my take on this since I am somewhat familiar with that area...The problem is simple. Politics. There is no support from the county BOE for anything at RBS. None at all...and it is because there are factions in the main part of the county that want to absorb RBS into MCHS...primairialy for control reasons. This county is filled with power freaks that happen to be on polar opposite sides of the community spectrum; and as usual, they tend to destroy anything that is good up there. RBS always gets leftovers; and it is usually after getting on their knees to the powers that be in Lafayette. All you have to do is go back to the threads earlier on this year concerning Tiger football. There are some folks up there that frankly dererved to be horse-whipped for what they do to the kids in the name of 'having control'; and it is the same forces that keep RBS down. It is not the coaches' fault; I just believe that it is the atmosphere fostered by the history of the county and the power structure (and behaviors of the people supposedly in power)in place. Some places can support football, others cannot.
  9. Exactly. I have no problem with that at all. (That includes the milk-carton rattles, the triple-air horns, and the band cranking up at the snap count.) Guess I am just a purist. Or anal...whatever side one is on. I am actually surprised the TSSAA is allowing fans in with the Purity one-gallon rattles. I have seen at other playoff games where those were not allowed through the gates. Might be their kidney-stone collections they are showing off.... /roflolk.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflolk:" border="0" alt="roflolk.gif" />
  10. If Jeff Porter is smart he will remind the officials before the game about the rules about band interference during plays.... Seriously.
  11. Wow. Lot of venom and smack here. Let's put this into context though.....ya' can't crow too loud until you can get past the Lipscomb-Region 2 wall that has dominated the tournament in recent years. Of course, that also goes for the rest of the state as well....
  12. The problem lies with the absolute lack of consistency officials will call the noise warnings. The rule of thumb that is used is the band should cease playing loud when the Q-back goes under center. HOWEVER...there are bands that will ignore that rule and play straight thru the defensive series of their team in order to create a distraction. (There is even a band that was asked..by the school superintendent and former coach of that multiple state-championship small school...and the present coach's dad HINT...to continue playing even after being asked by the host principal/game official to cease!) This inconsistency causes a conflict with other groups who are actually following the rule of sportsmanship yet would like to balance the scales. Who wants the BAND, for crying out loud, to draw a penalty for their team? (And I have seen it happen, albeit at the college level.) Again, it may be asking too much for the TSSAA to evenly officiate this issue, as they are usually incapable to do anything else with a level of common sense...
  13. WOW. Sometimes things like this gets lost in the passion of 1st downs and scores. Ya'll just gained a fan. God Bless you all.
  14. Did I hear right on this? During the game there were students w/WH taking up a coffee can collection-and collected over 900.00 for a POLK COUNTY coach who had lost his house in a fire...if I heard that right; then that is 1st class sportsmanship!!!! No matter who that was for....this was class! (And you got my $ as well.... /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" /> )
  15. I know the SW DeKalb band...seen it before in both a ballgame and its members in the movie Drumline. Very entertaining. It just seems strange that there is a rule concerning music from the stands that is not enforced...I would not mind seeing the rule done away with...but with it there you do not know whether to take a chance to get involved during the play for fear of actually having a ref throw the flag.
  16. Trobaugh has some serious foot. The first FG against SC in their game could have easily been a 55-yd FG. Easily. Is this guy getting some looks by some D1 teams?
  17. Strange that you never hear an official these days warn a sideline for a band playing thru a play on the field...this is prohibited in most association rules (as well as in college; and I have seen warnings given by officials in the NCAA). It is getting to be a commonplace violation; and might ought to be addressed by the TSSAA as there are come groups that do this on purpose (and I have even seen it done under instructions of school officials!). Anything to get an advantage these days...
  18. There was another team a couple of years ago that went 5-5 and lost a lot of close games in the regular season. And ended up with a gold ball. Just something to think about Cat fans...from Hogeye land...
  19. Well then, someone had better talk to those kids/clowns without the shirts who charged the track to the WH side last week at the end of the game and just about started a riot. They knocked down a couple of WH kids in the process... Not only was it not classy, but if I was a Sumner County administrator they would be serving about a month in alternative school...or in jail for awhile for assault. I am afraid if they are foolish enough to try that at PC someone will get hurt. Not cool at all...although granted, I am sure they do NOT represent SC as a whole. At least I hope not.
  20. On the field goal....WH's field goal in the first quarter was a 42-yd FG....the same length as would have been the potential game winner...and that goal had an additional 15 yds to its range. That kid has some leg; and I was too curious as to the play call. Oh well...
  21. Big Red, your comments have been reported to CoachT for flamebaiting and defamation of character....it takes a COWARD to say things you said about young men behind a screen name. Be lucky you are hiding behind that name...or should it be Big Yellow??
  22. THOSE are exactly (almost by person) the people I was talking about...and the same situation.
  23. I guess I must have hit a nerve. Maybe the people who are trashing the coach publically need to quit this little vendeta on here. If you do not like me (or others...which is the vast majority of those posting on this) standing up for an embattled coach and the kids, then you are part of the problem...and what I speak about what will happen to the future of the program (as it has with other programs with public bruhahas such as this) WILL happen if people keep bringing up stuff like kicked-out kids or Hutton coaching...or the like. Just stating facts, buddy. Will never stop doing that... And what does Watertown have to do with this? That won't make it on Jim Rome... /sleep.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="-_-" border="0" alt="sleep.gif" />
  24. I don't doubt that is the case...and that is probably the reason why all this flack has taken place....someone in the community got their precious little feathers ruffled.
