  3. They took an L at Stewart County the other night.
  4. Rankin is not retired. He’s at Boyd. Creasy could be looking for a pay raise. He won big at Trousdale and has won big at Oakland. It may be time for a new challenge. Crabtree wouldn’t leave Beech for another Sumner County gig I would not guess. Liberty Creek is about to take some Beech kids though so you never know.
  5. 100% Facts! Maryville fans who used to be so arrogant on here are so jealous of what Alcoa has become. It’s so funny to me. Maryville has lost their mystique and if you don’t think that George Quarles saw it coming from a mile away you’re kidding yourself. The moment that Kevin Creasy left Hartsville and took over the football program at Murfreesboro Oakland signaled the beginning of the end for the mighty Red Rebels. I know Hillsboro, White Station, Whitehaven, and Ravenwood had some great teams and pulled off some upsets through the years but since Oakland has gotten the program established under Creasy & Co. the once “unbeatable Maryville Rebels” have been exposed and have become Dobyns-Bennett & Riverdale 2.0. They are still a great program and will win their share of region championships and win 10-12 games but they aren’t in Oakland’s stratosphere right now and every time they play them the games are getting more and more lopsided. Maybe Maryville can focus on beating Cleveland this off-season and keep their best players from wanting to transfer to Alcoa. It’s the only way that those young men are going to win any state championships on the football field anytime in the foreseeable future.
  6. Maryville Greeneville Knoxville West Ravenwood Alcoa is playing all comers.
  7. They were low. The TSSAA needs to move the event to Nashville or a more Middle-TN located venue. I will say that I did enjoy Chattanooga much more than Cookeville.
  8. They were 4-5 TDs worse than 6A Oakland and also lost to the 5A Champs and the 3A Champs this year. I'm not so sure they would have beaten the 4A Champs either in all honesty. They are great. I'm not dogging them. They are better than 90% of the teams in the state. They just aren't as elite as you all like to arrogantly pronounce yourselves as being in today's era. You're what Riverdale, Gallatin, and Dobyns-Bennett became many years before. It's not an insult. It's reality. People like yourself and JSAMSON get so offended when someone doesn't crown Maryville as the greatest thing ever. If you guys want to look at current championship trophies maybe you can get a weekly pass to go visit Alcoa High School and look at theirs.
  9. Alcoa is only going to get better and better. As Maryville continues to trend towards being a middle of the pack program in a loaded division you’re going to see several of their kids splinter away and go to Alcoa. Kids today are ring chasers and next level chasers and at Alcoa they are going to be in prime position to do both for many years to come. As long as Maryville is in 6A they will be a 10-11 win program on average but they are far from a guarantee to get to the championship game. That’s especially the truth while Creasy & Co. are killing everyone at Oakland.
  10. Middle TN gets gutted by your big private schools. I know they are everywhere but they are so much more active in purging midstate schools.
  11. Kelly Holcomb makes the audio to this game so hard to listen to honestly. His bias towards Oakland is obvious.

  15. Great Game! Congratulations to Anderson County on the school’s first State Championship. Pearl-Cohn had a great year and will be back in the 4A State Championship Game next year.
  16. West went 15-0. The beat Maryville. They beat Alcoa. They beat Powell & Page. They have very quietly had one of the most impressive seasons in TSSAA History. Congratulations to on a State Championship!
  17. Absolutely. Beard #2 and Wilson #3 were great players. I also liked #4 the RB.
  18. First off congratulations to Alcoa on an 8th straight State Championship and a 21st overall. East Nashville made 3 huge mistakes in the first half that they just couldn’t overcome to beat Alcoa. 1.). The Pick Six. 2.). The Onside Kick when it was 21-20 in the final minute of the half. 3.). The botched kick return that gave Alcoa a free FG to end the half. Those 3 mistakes directly led to 17 of Alcoa’s 31 points in the 1st Half. I didn’t realize how young Alcoa was this year until I started looking at their roster after the game. They maybe had a dozen seniors. They will be back the next two years and be favored to push it to 10 straight. On a side note I went with a group of friends to a BBQ joint as soon as the game ended and spoke with a group of people from Alcoa. The more I spoke to them I thought one of them was an Alcoa “Goon” from CoachT. If you were then it was great to meet you guys. East Nashville had a great two year run with their seniors and certainly shouldn’t feel disappointed in any way. They battled their tails off and took the game into the 4th Quarter before attrition caught up to them. The best 3 looking kids on Alcoa’s team were #45 the OLB, #44 the TE, and #7 the TB. They’ll all be back next year along with #4 the WR. All of those kids are going to pay for their college educations playing football one day in the future.
  19. The next coach in Green Wave Country should create quite a buzz.
  20. Pearl-Cohn wins a tight game here and brings the Gold Ball back to the midstate. Good Luck Firebirds!
  21. Good Luck to the Page Patriots. Everyone called last year a fluke/special run by McNamara. You got the same matchups and had to go beat Mt. Juliet, Nolensville, and Henry County all on the road. That’s good stuff!
  22. Oakland wins a 35-14 type of game here. Congratulations to both teams on great seasons. Way to represent middle TN so strong.
  23. Haywood runs the GT Counter RPO system so well. I’d venture to say that they rushed for close to 400 yards the other night. Their QB could sling it too and they had players on the outside. Pearl-Cohn’s QB looked like Patrick Mahomes the other night. Every time he was called on to make a key play he produced.
  24. WARNING: Long Post I said this the other night before JSamson decided to come after me for being some other dude. I mean this as nicely as I can say it. The “championship” ride is over at Maryville. George Quarles knew that this was inevitable and that’s why he bounced when he did. The moment Oakland hired 2A Kevin Creasy to come to Murfreesboro and run his 2A offense it was officially the beginning of the end of Maryville’s championship runs. It’s grown so lopsided that Oakland has gotten to where they have to play Division II teams and out of state teams in order to test themselves because they flat out own Maryville right now. Gary Rankin did the same thing when he left Riverdale after 2005. Even when Riverdale had countless college prospects and brought in Ron Aydelott to continue the machine. When adversity hit the Warrior Nation made Aydelott the scapegoat and since then Riverdale hasn’t been the same. If Rankin had stayed at Riverdale he would have been part of the downfall of Warriors football. If Quarles had stayed at Maryville he too would have been part of the downfall of Rebels football. Oh sure they would have beaten the Science Hill’s of the state and they would beat Alcoa, although it wouldn’t be as lopsided as in years past, but in those nut cutting games against better teams from Alcoa, Knoxville West, and Oakland he would have taken an L just like Hunt is doing nowadays. Maryville today is experiencing what Riverdale went through 15 years ago. Eventually it will become the new norm and people will learn to accept it. It’s not a knock. Maryville is still great. They are still going to win 10 or so games every year and be a Top 5 team. If you think it’s 2000-2007 Maryville though you desperately need a reality check. In the meantime Alcoa’s going to need to build more trophy cases because they are going to really start to put a gap on Maryville as it relates to number of state championships won. The part that is going to sting the most about it is that their head Coach leading the charge will be a Maryville grad. Eventually this will take its toll and the players that Maryville “currently get” will become the players that Maryville “used to get” because they’ll all be going to Alcoa to win championships. Ask Oakland & Riverdale if that isn’t how it works. Again I’m not trying to be a “Debbie Downer” and I’m not dogging on Maryville football. What Quarles did at Maryville was one of the most amazing feats of its time. It’s what Creasy is doing today at Oakland. Nix will only continue to build and expand on what Reid & Rankin started and established at Alcoa. I will be at the state championships next weekend if anyone wants to stop by and have a conversation. Great year Maryville. Good Luck in the title games Oakland & Alcoa.
