  1. McEwen was hot last night for sure, only missed two free throws all night. After the girl hit the three pointer to end the first quarter, it was all down hill from there. I was watching her warm up...and she is not a three point shooter. Anyway, good luck with MTCS, they will do whatever it takes to win...
  2. Thanks for clearing that up(sarcasm).
  3. Might be wrong again, but I thought that ties were determined by a coin toss in this district?
  4. I thought that Community and Eagleville still had games remaining to determine 5th and 6th place, or is it already determined?
  5. They need to contact him for sure. I wouldn't wish them on anyone.
  6. I've got a topic for your next weekend meeting, discuss why we get one decent ref and two pitiful refs in Van Buren Co. for a district game that has plenty of meaning. You have to know when its district and non district games, right? Please encourage the one with the blown out knee to take up another hobby to make some extra money. And the rookie ref that blew his whistle and took off running to the other end of the floor as if he didn't mean to, encourage him not ref any more. They're probably good guys off the court. Most schools take their basketball serious. That was a joke tonight. The two bad refs made the good one look bad. If he has his choice, he probably hopes he doesn't have to be with them again.
  7. This topic deals more with a starter losing their starting spot during the season. Do you think the coach should hold a starters spot if they miss a game due to an illness, illness in the family, other school function, etc.? The topic is not asking if a starter should be benched because someone else on the team has stepped up their play, but because they missed a game due to circumstances out of their control.
  8. Should be a good one. I'm glad the first game is being played on the mountain. Van Buren's last district game is at Eagleville.
  9. I think the press should equally bother both teams in a small gym. If Forrest can prevent the MTCS run-outs, and get good help defense on their dribble-drives from the wing, they should win by double digits. I do agree about the home cooking. Last year when we played them, Van Buren was called for 27 fouls, and MTCS was called for 11.
  10. Oh, you think you're so smart, scouting us like that, and knowing our plays and everything. We now have a total of 4 plays, "eagle," "alabama," "teacher's cousin," and "school board motion." And for another thing, "Nancy's Dad" no longer can call time outs for the team...he never could understand why he couldn't call a time out when the other team was about to score??? And FYI, "Suzy's parents are no longer in charge of the defense...who runs a zone anymore, anyway? They are now in charge of team awards at the end of the season. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  11. Nevermind, guys. I found my lucky hat and wore it to the game tonight, and we won! It wasn't the coach after all. All is well again. Thanks for helping me through it though. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  12. Things must be great where you are, and I hope they are. But kids only get to go through high school once. "Let it go?" Why don't you just say, "you shouldn't care," or, "you should always accept the way things are?" I never mentioned anything about a player, I'm talking about winning!
  13. Not gonna argue with your reasoning, coach. But you missed one point. You are assuming that all coaches prepare the same. "Scout team defense or offense that the starters practiced against" are you serious? Sounds like you take your job serious by having scout teams, by having film sessions, make adjustments during the game...I bet you would even practice on the weekend before a big game on Monday. Don't be so naive, coach. Not all coaches prepare the way you do.
  14. If two teams are evenly matched, and play close the entire game, and one team wins on a last second shot, no one should be blamed. You come away knowing that you just witnessed a quality basketball game where someone had to lose, and someone had to win. But, if the coach suddenly makes a change in the last two minutes of that close game that leads to a 10 point loss, should they be blamed for that loss. Give me scenarios where you think a game was lost by certain things the coach did.
  15. Does anyone think the rule had anything to do with coaches playing their starters late in the fourth quarter, in a blowout? As opposed to playing the bench in a blowout.
  16. Are the people that are for the rule beating people by 35? And are the people against the rule getting beat by 35? Because it seems to be 50/50.
  17. Not sure why everyone is getting so excited about the mercy rule for basketball, there has been a "mercy rule" in baseball for years called the "run rule"
  18. Monterey called a time out with about five minutes remaining in the fourth qtr. when we had passed them on the scoreboard 50-48. In the next two minutes we scored six more points . In the last three minutes, I think we scored one point. I just hate it for the girls that worked as hard as I've seen them work in the second half all year, and for them to come away with a loss.
  19. Sorry VBHoopster, not trying to come off as negative, but I hate it when your team loses. I would be interested in hearing your analysis of the way the game ended. Agreed. Pickett Co. will be a tough one.
  20. Should be a good one. I was sort of surprised to see that Pickett lost at Clay friday night. Don't know if that is good or bad for Van Buren.
  21. Congrats to the VB girls for coming out after the half and getting yourselves back into the ball game. That's something to build on for the rest on the season. You were aggressive on both ends of the floor, forced the tempo of the game, and got Monterey into foul trouble. Speaking of foul trouble, why would a team that has fought themselves back into a game in the third and fourth quarter, and got your opponent in serious foul trouble, (one starter fouled out, three other starters with 4 fouls each), and with three minutes to go, decide its time to play keep away with a two point lead????????????? Take the ball to them, why stop dictating the tempo now??????? To quote Dennis Green in his infamous post game interview, "we had them where we wanted them, and we let them off the hook!" Again, girls, good effort tonight. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  22. Are you just frustrated about losing to Clay Co., or are you serious about being upset with Bibb? Plenty of Pickett faithful that will argue with you on that call. I think this is the first negative comment concerning Bibb???
  23. I saw Cookeville play at Jackson Co. earlier in the season. Cookeville had some height, thats for sure. Not alot of quickness from them, however. They handle the ball pretty good and can shoot from the arc. I say White Co. by 14.
  24. I like the way the Monterey coach prepares his team. When they warm up, they are doing important fundamentals just as a last minute reminder. That being said, JC is too strong inside and out and I've not seen anyone this year more prepared than JC. But I do like the coach at Monterey.
