  1. Im sure ghouse willl correct me if im wrong, but im pretty positive it is the refs who vote for the OW at the state tournament.
  2. In regards, im pretty sure Carrethers went undefeated this year
  3. Watched the videos, some of the elbows looked ruff but as a former wrestler that has had his nose BROKEN by an incidental elbow from a teammate during practice i cant sit here and say without a doubt it was intentional. The hands to the face in the closing seconds may have looked dirty but you do what can to get off your back when youre getting pinned. Im not saying that you after a cut to try to draw blood, im just saying that your reaction may be to push the guys head away and try to bridge through. The gesture at the end doesn't look dirty to me. It appears that its made out of frustration (see slow mo replay) rather than trying to fling blood on the cordova guy. Its a ruff sport. I think both sides may have over reacted a bit. It happened, arguing about it isnt going to change anything so its about time to move on. Another thing no one has really mentioned is the refs. I know Steve and Tom Marking, for those of your who didnt notice, theyre the 2 in the pinstrips. They both also happen to be very good refs with good reputations. Im sure that if anything came across as being over the line, one of the two would have stepped in and handled the situation accordingly
  4. thanks for the info buck... still kinda hard to believe given the tournament he had
  5. Has a heavyweight ever won OW? Not to take anything away from Justin Cash seeing as how he pinned and teched his way through the state tournament and in my mind did deserve consideration in the OW vote, but did anyone go back and look at the tournament Carrethers had? He pinned his opponents in :09, :12, 1:02, and 1:37 respectively for a combined 3 minutes of wrestling in the tournament. I know that the heavies are not the most technical, fast paced, or for some people "fun" to watch but i can't imagine a kid having a better tournament than that. As a former heavy i guess i just have a soft spot for the big guys but if this performance didn't merit an OW then i dont see the weight class winning any.
  6. I agree with you completely freestyle. I know some coaches disagree and everyone who has earned the title as head coach gets to decide how they want to arrange their lineup. I am sure that every team in the state would like to take home the big trophy and call themselves Champions; however, the way i see it, the team tournament was settled last week at the duals. We call this an INDIVIDUAL tournament for a reason. If a kid gets out there and takes care of business, then he still gets to be a champion whether his team finishes first or not. I say if a guy wants to move weight classes and no one on his team can beat him in the wrestle off at that weight, then its his. That being said, I would never criticise a kid for trying to put himself in the best position to win the state tournament, especially not if its his last year.
  7. Did cleveland wrestle Father Ryan or CBHS this year?
  8. been meaning to, that whole going to college and having 2 jobs thing has been gettin in the way
  9. Yea i was meaning more along the lines of individual match results in those matches. Anywhere i can find those? Yea i was meaning more along the lines of individual match results in those matches. Anywhere i can find those?
  10. This argument comes up every year, and every year comes and goes without the match taking place. The fact of the matter is all of the fans would like to see it but they can't change the fact that they don't. The only people that can make the match happen are the coaches of the respected teams and therefore there is really no point in arguing about it. It will happen when both teams want it to happen
  11. Ghouse, how bout some match results from the cbhs matches against baylor and BA?
  12. Just from personal experience, I have wrestled at national tournaments with team tennessee as well as traveled quite a bit with my former high school and as i recall we were pretty competitive at all of them. I know that cbhs has traveled to and won tournaments in alabama and illonois; as well as placing at several tournaments in missouri and hawaii, which involved teams from HI, CA, OR, and NY. Im not possitive how these teams ranked in their respective states; however, I would say that given cbhs's track record and those of other teams from tn that travel out of state that, as a state, we are pretty competitve nationally.
  13. If anyone happens to have footage of current olympic matches or knows where it can be found can you please post it for those of us who have missed some or all of them. This is aimed at you ghouse, I know you are keeping tabs on whats happening over there in Beijing
  14. I like it when you refer to yourself in the third person. When are you moving out there?
  15. I agree that off season matches are not the same, and people dont cut the same amount of weight ect. but IMO to say that they probably werent trying is kind of ridiculous. Who walks out on a mat and wants to loose?
  16. agreed... horrible call. the only logic behind it is that Perry locked the cradle, but out in front with no control. I dont see how you can give it to him that late in such a big match, especially since it only took Nick about a second to slip it and come out.
  17. the only video of Nick i saw on that sight was his consolation semis match. Where can you find video of his match vs Perry?
  18. Who is going to be wrestling next year and for whom from the class of 08?
  19. In my opinion, If the gap between 215 and 285 is too much for you, then cut. I wrestled 275 for two years weighing between 215 and 225 and medaled at state twice. The truth is I could have cut to 215 but i was more comfortable at 275 and it was better for the team. Still from Baylor was a two time state finalist at 275 and he couldn't have weighed more than about 210. I spoke with someone from Notre Dame at the state tournament this year and their heavyweight (who was 1 match away from placing) only weighed about 195. Ben Campbell from CBHS took third at state in 2004 wrestling at heavyweight and weighing 205. These are just a few examples that spring to mind but there are many more. The truth of the matter is size makes a difference, but if you are the better wrestler, that difference is not a big one. You can be outsized at any weight class. You either have to improvise, adapt, and overcome, or cut to another weight where you can be the bigger guy.
  20. How exactly is getting cradled and taken to your back giving someone a state title? Harmon earned his state state championship. I beilieve his record this year was around 48-3 wrestling almost the entire year at 160. Not to mention that he didnt loose a match in the state of tennessee so i would love to know your logic behind that one.
  21. I have seen Hermann wrestle serveral matches the last couple years and although im not sure of his overall record, i have only seen get pinned once. It was this year at the Ryan invitaitonal by Cathy of Franklin (who was one round away from placing in D1), this is the only time i have seen him get caught and that happened to be the only time i have seen him loose in person. Everyone gets caught occasionally. That being said, both these guys are great wrestlers, and both very deserving champions. If they were to wrestle, i seriously doubt either gets pinned. It would be an interesting match up. i give the power advantage to Hermann but Sliger appears much quicker. It would come down to who was able to wrestle "their match". If Hermann scores early i think he would have a good chance at finishing it out, but if it was close going into the third i would give the advantage to Sliger because i think he's got more in the tank.
