  1. Preseason rankings are alot of fun. But I do agree that the only rankings that matter are the ones at the end of the year after everything has been settled on the field. And yes I think most people would consider Greenville and Morristown as part of East Tennessee. But not many people from that area buy the Johnson City Press. Between South, Science Hill and DB, it would be tough to pick one above the other at this point. They all have the potential to be on top, but still have some "polishing up" to do to get there. I think after the first week of the season a clear number one will emerge.
  2. I didn't see anything where they said that they "agreed that some type of rule was needed". Maybe I missed something. I don't think canceling or moving practices indoors means that they are in favor of a rule on this matter. I think it shows that a rule is not needed, that the people charged with making this decision have enough ability and sense to cancel or move practices indoors when needed. All we need is for the TSSAA to pass more rules that they have no way to enforce.
  3. I sure hope he knows what he's getting into. I know football is big at Maryville and the tradition they have there matches any other school in this state. But football in Hoover is an animal unlike any other and can only be matched by some of the schools in Texas. You don't go to school at Hoover to get a good education. You go to Hoover to play football. You don't work year round to win a state championship at Hoover. You work to win a national championship. The Principal is not the person that runs Hoover, that job belongs to Rush Propst, the head football coach.
  4. Maybe we should do away with scrimmages in favor of a pre-season schedule. That way we can keep score and a pre-season record to make those happy that want scrimmages to mean something. And humor the rest of us that understand that nothing matters till week zero.
  5. Did the players actually expect to win this? If their coach was truly abusive maybe a tape recording of it sent to the school board would have been the better way to go.
  6. Uh, is this a response to what I said? I'm not sure why you are quoting me here.
  7. I appreciate your comment. I do have to say that I feel for Phillips. One of South's weekness this year will be his WR's. How frustrating it can be to watch your teamates drop good passes. How is the running game looking so far?
  8. This should be a great game to watch. But I think the running games of both teams will play a major role. South will need to run the ball well to keep the Topper's defense off balance. If they can establish balance in their offense and not rely totally on their passing game then South will win. Science Hill will have to be successful running the ball to win. I don't think they can do it by just passing. And the longer they can keep South's offense off the field the better.
  9. I have to completely agree with you Cap. Scheduling 2A teams is not going to improve a program at all. All it does is get a coach a W.
  10. lol Thats makes me feel better. Good luck this year. Hope you do well.
  11. The Brentwood Academy case was a joke. You are right, the amount of recruiting that goes on here in East Tennessee is getting out of hand. However I would say most of it is done through the loop holes that exist in the current rules. But that is a topic for another thread.
  12. Compared to other high schools in the state and around the country everyone in this conference looks like a middle school team.
  13. Here are some news articles related to the Hoover case. http://blog.al.com/spotnews/2007/07/remova...incipal_pr.html http://blog.al.com/bn/2007/07/richard_bish...ontract_ev.html http://www.al.com/sports/birminghamnews/in....xml&coll=2 http://www.al.com/hsfootball/birminghamnew....xml&coll=2
  14. I don't think there is anyone in this conference strong enough to even be thinking about the post season right now.
  15. Yes, Mr. Football in 86 I think. What about him?
  16. Amid the recent scandal at Hoover High School in Alabama, where coaches, teachers and administrators are being investigated for academic improprieties, are there any schools here in Tennessee that might be doing this as well?
  17. You know what, I bet you know alot more about South than I do. You tell me, what DO YOU think their weakest areas are? It would be pointless for me to point out what I think they are unless you are objective enough to consider the fact that your team might have some. So you tell me, if you could wave the magic wand and improve a couple of areas of your team, what would they be?
  18. 1.Johnson County 2.Tn High 3.South 4.East 5.Unicoi 6.Central 7.Elizabethton 8.North I think South is being overhyped due to their quarterback. All of the attention is on him and several holes in this team is being overlooked. Tn High has the team to win the conference but I think they will suffer a loss or 2 early on while getting their QB situation figured out. Not much talk about the Longhorns. Everyone knows they will be tough, but no one seems to be giving them a chance to win the conference. The final playoff spot will be a battle between East and Unicoi. I think Elizabethton has to many expectations this year. They will be improved and will upset a couple of teams, but I think they are a year away from making some serious noise in the conference.
  19. If last years basketball team is any indication then the football team will come out on the field wearing masks and swinging baseball bats
  20. Cutlip will coach next season, but look for it to be his last on the hill. There will be alot of coaching changes across the state next year and he will go somewhere. Interesting who will be in the running for this job when he leaves
  21. I've also heard that it could be one year and done for Mason at UH. I'm hearing that there will be a couple of openings at the 3A level after next season. One big one in particular.
  22. Who is UH next coach. I hear Mark Mason has it locked up. A good source says he's already recruiting kids to come in and play.
  23. Why don't EH go after Tony Wallingford? I hear his days are numbered at Milligan
  24. Woodacre is very deserving of this award. He is alot more than just a shooter, he can score off the dribble if needed or feed his teamates when the defense is keying on him. CONGRATS!!! Would have been nice to see him play in the Big 9 like he was supposed to. He would have gotten alot more recognition.
