pedo_29, The summer dead period hurts what sport the most. If baseball players lifted and conditioned as much as football players, how would you like to have 2 weeks off, 3 weeks before you could start practice. There are football coaches all over this state that would give up spring practice if they got something in return. Baseball loses fall ball and open facilities in the fall. When football has open facilities it's called practice. Baseball can still throw all fall. Baseball can still hit and throw 6 WEEKS prior to their "OFFICIAL" practice begins. So tell me how baseball lost a bunch.

bigchief, BOOK IT - the T$$AA will not disband if they win or lose the case to BA! But in case they did who in the world would be ready willing and able to run this NEW organization with in one week? MUST BE YOU

stan trott, If you will read the fine print of the new calendar, a mandatory 3 week dead period after each sport ends (except spring sports) has been included in the new rules.

footballfan15, I have been told all of this material was sent to the principals and AD's last spring and fall. Now if they are too lazy to look at it or call other coaches to find out about it, then that is there fault.

stan trott, I think you might be reading it wrong. Football can lift and condition in June they just can't have organized summer practice until july after the dead period ends. Basketball has the month of June for camps and then they get slammed if I am reading this right. I was told the football coaches association was in support of these changes and some in attendance even had the opportunity to speak, which I have also been told never ever happens.

Think RC coached. I think that to work for the T$$AA you had to have worked for a school system prior to being hired.

Isn't tomorrow when the big vote occurs about summer practices, etc? I heard the coaches were going to the meeting and talk about the changes.

Coach looks like he has put on some weight. Hope those spandex pants don't blow a gasket.

What if anything happened to there coaches from last year?

T$$AA will NEVER repeat NEVER go to a 9 game season. You can bank on that!

Why are we scrimmaging 3a teams instead of the big boys like we used to? How much of a challenge does Union Co. give us?

I wasn't implying that it was rocket science. But only two schools in each classification have a season that ends 3 weeks before the holiday season begins. If powell wanted to begin their "spring" practice in November then they could do that. I think if the TSSAA came by Powell High today or for that matter anytime in Nov/Dec and saw the coaches outside with players throwing and catching footballs and the coaches instructing linemen working on football specific drills (shot gun snaps, etc.) I would bet they would say "your spring practice has begun".

Thought Kurt Jones was the coach that got fired before Campbell took the job.

Don't believe the rules say anything about having to have spring practice in the 2nd semester. I called a coaching friend of mine, he found a rule book and nothing was mentioned about the 2nd semester, just 15 school days to get in 10 days of practice with 2 scrimmages. Also, he told me you could do anything you wanted to do if you don't have on pads and don't have a ball out there. He said it was called conditioning & agility drills. Correct me if I am wrong.

Curr has to do something - his own son left him and is going to coach somewhere else to coach, hasn't he?
