  1. Not really sure why you think I am a referee but you must have me confused with someone else. There is not enough money in the world for me to call a ball game!
  2. Playing as hard as they can for 32 minutes will not be SG's problem-they have been coached to leave it all on the floor every time they go out and play since they were old enough to dribble a basketball. Intensity will not be their problem either-these girls have played that "in-your-face" style defense and "stop me if you can" offense since joining the Lady Rebel team as Freshman. God1st hit the nail on the head when talking about Dye having to make sure she stays out of foul trouble. Throughout the year I have seen more offensive fouls called on her than I can count and I have said this before and I will say it again-LEARN TO SHOOT THE PULL UP JUMPER!!! Dye is the Leader of this team, but just as imortant to this team is Casteel. These two girls need to stay out of foul trouble and continue to step up and be leaders for their teammates. If SG plays to their potential and Dye and Casteel stay out of foul trouble then SG will be tough to beat and they will have a really good chance to go deep into the State Tournament! Good Luck Lady Rebels!!!
  3. I was not able to make the game, but expected it to be closer than what the final score shows. I was talking to a friend who was in attendence that said several scuffles almost broke out towards the end of the game...I was thankful to hear that it ended before it turned ugly and punches were thrown. For all you players out there try and remember that this is just not the time of year to be putting yourself in a situation to be ejected and subsequently suspended during tournament time!!! I was quite thankful to hear that the officials kept the game in check!! Good luck to Carter and congrats on a great season to Catholic!
  4. I haven't seen or heard anything about the officiating in this game, so I take it that it was pretty good? I wasnt able to make the game, but I know that they usually bring in the referees from another part of the state. Were they about the same or better or worse than the usuall guys up in this area? Just interested to know....
  5. Wildstang, I do have a good sense of humor lol...you almost have to if you are going to be a level-headed official! /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> It is nice to be thanked for our work from time to time because lord knows we don't hear that very often! I can't speak for the supervisors in West TN, considering I officiate in the East but I can say that this past season we had one of our supervisors in a gym somewhere every night that there was a varsity ballgame. That has been a big change in our association the past two years because for a while we didnt have the feedback from them that you are talking about them giving. I know that their goal at the beginning of the year was to watch every official in our association work at least one time, and at our last meeting they told us that they did indeed accomplish that goal. Most of the time they even went early and watched the b-team guys to try and help them get better. I have seen ballgames all across the state this year and officiated a lot of the teams in upper east TN, and for the most part this year I have seen officials who are working hard and trying to get better with supervisors who want them to improve and be the best they can be right there with them helping them at the games. I know that there are some exceptions to that rule lol, but the future doesnt look to bad if everyone can keep working hard and trying to improve!!! /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />
  6. While it shouldn't happen, it does. Did anyone on here see the Tennessee and Kentucky game? A kicked ball right in front of one of the officials was missed. It happens on ALL levels! As an official, it is not like we miss these calls on purpose. We work hard for the kids and try to provide the best officiating that we can. It is IMPOSSIBLE to get every call right. Calls will be missed, it is inevitable no matter what the level...For the most part though, the officials do a great job.
  7. Two great ballgames tonight at Hal-Henard!!! I told one of my buddies that Morristown West may be the sleeper team this season and the District Tournament suprise and so far that has proved true this post-season!! The championship game should be a "barn burner" lol...You almost have to give the Lady Devils the upper hand in this one though. Homecourt advantage and having several players who are used to winning the big games could be hard for West to overcome, but on the same note-West has had Greeneville's number all year!!! The lady trojans have been the only bunch who have seemed to have had an answer for the devils and both times that these teams have met have been very intense, close games. I am sure this one will be the same and to be quite honest I am having trouble deciding who I think will take home the title!?!?! Galyon is in my opinion the better coach but Crumbley has plenty of talent on the floor and has made improvements in her coaching over the past few seasons...this one is a toss up!! Good luck to both sides!!! I am looking forward to seeing who wins it!
  8. As much fun as it is to watch everyone argue about who is better this year, I must say it is really quite irrelevant. The facts don't lie. While many people say the IMAC is the weakest conference around, it is still difficult to play an entire season against schools who have great athletes and finish with the records that Greeneville has the past decade. Year in and year out GHS has solid fundamental basketball teams and that is what wins ballgames for them. This year is a perfect example of that. Defense wins ballgames! The devils don't really have one player who stands out from the rest this year on offense like Wiggins did last year but their swarming defense has won games for them. Bill Duncan is one of the better coaches around and it shows on the floor when game time rolls around. I have no lie to tell anyone...I am NOT a Greene Devil fan at all, but I do have respect for their accomplishments every year. Chuckey Doak has one of the best teams this year that they have had in YEARS. I tip my hat to the great season that they have had, but you can't reasonably compare what they have done this year to what Greeneville has done this year!!! The Greene County schools did not stop playing Greeneville because they got killed every year. The majority of the time GHS did win the games, but some of the best, most intense games I have witnessed the past 15 years have been Greeneville vs. South Greene ballgames. For many years it didnt matter who the host school was it would be South Greene girls taking the win and Greeneville boys taking a win, and BOTH games were for the most part close, physical ballgames. I miss the old in-county rivalry games as I am sure most of the people in Greene County do. The whole point of this post is that there is no reason for a bunch of high school kids from CD to get on here and try and say that Greeneville would get beat this year by any AA team around. There would be some great ballgames between them but there are not many teams that have a coach like ol' Billy D. and when it comes down to it...a lot of time great coaching will be the difference in winning and losing the game!! (Just like Larry Ricker at South Greene did for years!!) The IMAC may be down this year, but basketball across the state of Tennessee is down for the most part from where it has been in past years...and even though that is the case, we have still had plenty of GREAT games this season and I am sure we will have plenty more to come in the next few weeks during the tournaments!! Good luck to all the players on all the Greeneville and Greene County teams. Go out there and represent G"VILLE well and win some ballgames for us! No matter if it is Greeneville High or North Greene, it is always good to see local teams make a good showing on the state-wide level!
  9. Did anyone get a chance to go to this game? I had to work a game in Knoxville, so I didnt get a chance to go see it. Anyone with game details please fill me in!

  11. Not sure where you came up with this information bro...I have been officiating for quite a while now and have NEVER heard ANY coach whether it be JV or middle school or any level in school ball tell the refs how they want the game to be called, and even if they did try and tell them the officials don't answer to the coaches they answer to their assigning supervisors and association supervisors so they wouldnt listen to or cater to what the coaches want. I think maybe you are getting JV and middle school basketball confused with the instructional league at the parks and recreation department or the boys and girls club haha /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />
  12. He will definately be in my prayers...keep us updated on his condition!!!
  13. Good luck to both teams...if GHS play like they did against Powell then they have a real shot at winning the whole thing! Im looking forward to a very competitive and fun state tourney!!!! Good luck!
  14. Explain your reasoning about going back to 2 refs...why would you rather have two sets of eyes on the floor than 3? The 3 man crews do a much better job and the games are called much better than 2 man crews. I remember when we made the switch to 3 man, and the coaches that i have talked to about it like it MUCH better than they did 2 man crews...
  15. The ball can actually roll from one end of the backboard all the way down the top to the otherside of it and not be out of bounds. It is OOB if it hits the supports that hold the goal up or goes over the back of the backboard, but it is allowed to hit the top.... Congrats to Powell and Maryville...good luck
  16. Its based on total tournament performance hence the "all TOURNAMENT team"....both teams looked as poor as i have seen them look all season, hopefully all the rust is gone and the bad games are out of the way for them. Good luck to them both!
  17. Sloppy both ways. Neither team took care of the ball well, shot well, passed well, or for that matter did anything well....I have seen both these teams several times throughout the season and it was by far the worst i have seen either of them play. That being said, GHS made the bigtime shot when it counted on a great mid-air dish from dickson to collins with about 3 seconds on the clock for the easy lay-in to win it. Congrats to both teams, i hope they both play well saturday and represent their schools as good as they can. Good Luck!
  18. Well said. I second that motion lol...
  19. What a great game! This game had a championship kind of atmosphere and the kids on both sides played well! Wiggins stepped up for GHS and played a great ballgame, but didnt get the offensive support he needed from the other guys on the team and couldnt get some free throws to fall throughout the night while DB played solid team basketball to win this one. I dont think either side can say anything about the officials, it was a very well called game as was the TH and SHHS game. Congrats to GHS on a great season and to DB on a great win. Good look next year to the devils and thursday night to DB...it should be another great game!
  20. Are you kidding me!??!!! If you were really Wiggins you would know if it was gonna be your last game or not. I mean considering Wiggins is a senior and all it wouldnt make sense for him not to be aware of this games implications....go back to posting on your old name gdfan91......
  21. Everyone knows that it isnt Wiggins....its probly a little freshman who know absolutely nothing about basketball and probably doesnt even know Wiggins. As far as the game goes...it will be a battle! DB beat SHHS twice, and SHHS did beat GHS very handily...I must say tho, that was the best I have seen SHHS play this year and one of the poorer performances I have seen from GHS. If they play like they did that night they could have beaten anyone in the state! DB has a great team this year, and so does Greeneville. It is gonna be a great game!
  22. SHHS takes this one by 12...TH is playing good basketball right now, but SHHS always seems to step it up in big games...we will see soon enough!
  23. I agree that as a whole the big 9 is stronger, and there is a chance that DB will beat Greeneville, but I am giving the upperhand to GHS in this game. Gash had a strong performance against Volunteer to accompany a great night by Wiggins, and if both of them score +25 a piece again Tuesday night against DB then GHS will run away with this one. That being said, DB has a great team and as they have shown they can really play some good basketball. For DB to win, they will need to contain Wiggins and Gash (who i said at the start of this season would be GHS's X-factor) and hope to God that Woods and Ottinger dont get the hot hand going... This game is going to be a Defensive battle. Both teams have the ability to make things happen, but it is going to come down to who plays the best defense. Good luck to both teams! It will be a great game!
  24. This isnt likely. Greeneville may be undersized (except Wiggins) but if they dont beat you down low with Wiggins, he will step outside and light you up from the 3 point arc! Woods, Gash, and Ottinger all shoot the ball well too! Only chance Volunteer has in this one is if Greeneville has a horrible night shooting the ball and Volunteer shoots 65% or better from the floor... And yes I agree that Volunteer is a much more physical team, but let one of them run in to Anderson, he can scrap with just about anybody I have seen this year! A lot of people dont realize how important he is to this GHS team...NO-ONE comes in the lane without Anderson getting a body on them...he could quite possibly be the x-factor in how far GHS goes in the region! bottom line? -GHS rolls past Volunteer...however if they end up against the likes of DB or SHHS in the finals...it may be another story! I do see an upset coming tho...East or West one may just pull off an upset! Cherokee will have to play all 4 quarters well to beat SHHS, but it could happen! If they could have put 4 good quarters together this year several games may have turned out different (i.e. DB, GHS)... Good luck to all the teams tho! It should be a great Region to watch!
