  1. griner157, Before you take your young men to just any club you need to ask a very simple question: Which high school program in your area has the best technique, is knocking on the state championship door every year and has the best coaching? If it were me I would take a close look at their club because your wrestlers would get great instruction and get to workout with good wrestlers. There is a reason that some programs are successful most every year while others are only successful some years and the other years they are bottom feeders. Successful wrestling programs have great coaching and support staff.

    bats?

JMO, but I have noticed over the years that the Eston bat's have more pop if the temperature is below 75F but when it get's above that and starts pushing 80F the Louisville bats are much better.
  3. Wayne "THE GOVENOR" Boyd was a wonderful man that dedicated his life to young people. I saw him last Summer and had no idea that it would be my last time to speak with him.
  4. What an animal!!!!!! It's no wonder that he defeated Karelin with his never die attitude!!!!!!!!
  5. You get out of a program what you put into it and CPA seems to be placing very emphasis on wrestling. They need to go back to the basics and build their middle school program to where they have around 30 kids in grades 6-8 wrestling. That will allow them to become competitive in 3-5 years on the varsity level. There are many good former wrestlers living close to the CPA campus but if the adminstration does not care about wrestling then they are not going to seek out a good coach.
  6. Bingo, someone is paying attention!!!!!!! Some professional team is going to have to make the decision of should they play Michael in CF or make a pitcher out of him. He could be the first HS player selected in the draft but he has signed with Florida State.
  7. Scott Nailen won a state championship for Kirby high school and was coached by Frank Simpson. He later went to wrestle for Oklahoma State.
  8. What I am saying is if a kid has only been in the practice room for one week (5 or 6 days) and they were limited to only riding a bike before that I don't think for one minute that they would be in wrestling condition. Two months makes a big difference in conditioning but it was probably more like a 6 week season for Bateman. I heard that he was not released to practice until the Friday before the Ryan Invitational.
  9. If past years are any indication the Fresh/Soph state tournament is very competitive.
  10. I head that Michael Mane transfered to Beach from Florida and he is throwing 96mph.
  11. Chris, I for one agree that shaking hands at the end of each individual match is not a good idea. As long as you shake hands at the end of the dual, I see no problem with what you are doing and wish that others would follow. Very few college programs shake hands with the opposing coaches after their individual matches. In fact the United States Military Academy (West Point) is the only program that I know of that would do this. Could anyone imagine Terry or Tom Brands shaking hands with the Oklahoma State or Iowa State coaching staff after a loss? Give the kids and coaches a chance to "cool down" before we ask them to be friendly. It's just like the wrestler that wins wanting to hug the wrestler that he defeated, it is asking for trouble.
  12. Did Bateman not loose to Williams in the Father Ryan finals after only being in the practice room for one (1) week due to eye surgery?
  13. If both D1 & D2 were combined who would win and how would they win. 103 Jeremy Miller (8th Greenback) vs Daniel Baucke (9th CBHS) 112 Josh Jadoobirsingh (11th Cleveland) vs Bailey Whitacker (12th Baylor) 119 Demetrius Johnson (12th Brighton) vs T.J. Duncan (8th McCallie) 125 David Graham (10th Bradley) vs John Michael Simspson (12th MBA) 130 Tanner Johnson (12th Bradley) vs Ben Johnson (12 Baylor) 135 Ulric Winesburgh (12th Soddy) vs Will Young (12th McCallie) 140 Dean Pavlon (11th Bradley) vs Mike Bell (12th Baylor) 145 Kelly Felix (12th Franklin) vs Josh Baucke (12th CBHS) 152 Justin Spain (12th Bradley) vs Reed Doster (12th Baylor) 160 Brandon Wright (12th Houston) vs Daniel Wadell (12th Baylor) 171 Jake Young (10th Ool) vs Aaron Bateman (12th Father Ryan) 189 Tyler Roberson (12th Soddy) vs Darius Williams (12th CBHS) 215 Matt Lettner (12th Soddy) vs Ben Bartholomew (11th MBA) HW Cody Sliger (11th Ool) vs Zach Herman (11th Father Ryan) My Picks: D2 25 D1 19 Baucke (D2 dec) Jadoobirsingh (D1 dec) Johnson (D1 dec) Simpson (D2 dec) Ben Johnson (D2 dec) Young (D2 dec) Bell (D2 dec) Felix (D1 decision) Spain (D1 dec) Wadell (D2 3rd OT rideout) Bateman (D2 major decision) Roberson (D1 major decision) Lettner (D1 dec) Herman (D2 dec) IMO, the 160#, 103# & HW matches are a tossups and could be won by either wrestler. I don't see any pins unless it is Roberson or Bateman.
  14. If he is as good of a student as everyone says then he should look at the Ivy League. Let's face the truth that everyone must stop wrestling at some point in their life and the Ivy education will allow him to make the big bucks.
  15. I spoke with a friend after the state tournament and he said that Father Ryan would be the favorite going into the 2007-08 season. He said that they return 11 of their starters but will loose a 3X champion, runner-up, and a place winner.
  16. It's hard to tell who hits the long ball the best because some of the parks are no more than 250 down the lines and 300 in center while other teams play at fields that are 310 down the lines and 400 in center with an 8ft high fence.

    UTC at Missouri

Ben Askren was very sick according to someone on THE MAT but he decided to wrestle his final home match. With wrestling being a close contact sport I can see where a virus could spread throughout the team very rapidly which would include the backups. Was Marable (SP?) also sick because I have heard that he is in the lineup now? If UTC is good enough to win against Missouri then they will prove it @ the NCAA's in Detroit.
  18. Like Terry Brands (Iowa) did when he lost in the NCAA semi-finals to Kendall Cross (Oklahoma State)
  19. This can be done but you will have to use seniors. You will not be able to use anyone that is not a senior because it would be considered an All-Star match.
  20. If you know of students that receive a scholarship or aid without dealing with Princeton you need to turn them in if that student is an athlete. There are alot of people that spread rumors but most of the time that is all you have, a bad rumor.
  21. TSB has been on the bottom for many years now. Their best years were in the 60's and early 70's before blind children were "main streamed" into the general school populations. It would be great if they could get thier program back to the point where they would be competitive again but I don't feel that is going to happen for many reasons. From what I am hearing they were allowed to have a combined team with Donelson Christian Academy the past few years but I don't know how that has worked out.
  22. Divison 2 schools do not offer scholarships they offer financial aid just as most colleges and universities. The families of students wishing to receive financial aid must complete a series of forms requiring detailed personal financial information including past Internal Revenue Service tax returns. After the forms are completed the forms are sent to Princeton, NJ and that is where the decision is made as to how much financial aid a family may receive. Once a decision is made as to how much aid a family may receive the school must then make the decision as to how much financial aid they wish to extend to the family while not exceeding the maxium amount that Princeton deemed acceptable. Some schools may give 100% of the maxium financial aid while others may extend 25% or 0% of the maxium. All financial aid decisions made by the various schools are made on an individual basis.
  23. Yes she was a Simpson before she saw the light and decided to hookup with a Dunning. Remember that the Simpson family of Pat, Frank, Jim & Paul never won a state title and Brian Dunning won it as a freshmen for Hillwood. The real question is would any of Frank's boy's have won a state championshp if they had not received the Derick families great athletic genes from their mother? We all know that their late Uncle Matt is responsible for most of their success at both the state and national level.
  24. What highly ranked college wrestlers do this?
  25. Congratulations to Baylor with 9 wrestlers in the finals and it probably is some type of record. How many do you feel that they would have placed in the finals if we only had one division. Most of these kids are lucky if they have one tough match before the finals.
