  1. The question is should the public schools go after the higer learning institutions and the folks at the SAT & ACT?
  2. It's a sad day when athletes cannot take a shower without having their personal gear taken. I would doubt that Ryan has a problem with items being taken during school day or they would not have the open locker system. I seriously doubt that they have any type of video system in a locker area with showers. If I were Father Ryan the lockers and showers would be closed to everyone but Father Ryan wreslers when they host a tournament. It's bad that a few bad people cause problems for everyone.
  3. The statistics of some educational web sites claim that prep school students score higher than public school students on the ACT & SAT. With that being said a larger % of private school students than ever are receiving acceptance in the most selective colleges and universities. Is this fair because the private schools have the money to hire tutors and the best teachers to work with their students? Have the public school supporters tried to get the private school students excluded from being able to take the college entrance test or having a larger % of slots desiginated for public school students? Let's not forget that most all of the top colleges and universities receive some federal funding for research and other academic needs. They have done it for athletics so why not do the same thing with academics?
  4. The public school vs private school debate is taking place in most every state. Whatever the United States Supreme Court decides will have some bearing on all fifty states.
  5. Alcoa, Riverdale, & Maryville have never dominated in football and Liberty (less than 5 year old) does not have a good basketball team. It's those dang D1A private schools that are cheating and stealing all of the great athletes.
  6. Good coaching, parental support, hard working athletes, and having the adminstratiion behind athletics has nothing to do with how successful a schools athletic programs are as a whole. You must recruit and cheat to win!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  7. Gene Mills (2X NCAA Champion @ 118 & Olympian) has a series that he teaches off the spiral ride that most people refer to as the Mills Half Series. Mills teaches various tilts and pinning combinations based on what the bottom man does. Unlike most people Gene takes what the bottom man gives him and does not force anything. It is a great series but somewhat complicated and must be part of ones drill and practice routine. Gene does clinics and camps around the country and is very good. However, if you feel that Randy Lewis is a party animal and has confidence you have never meet "Mean Gene The Pinning Machine"
  8. Withers is a strong & mature wrestler for 112#. However he did beat an 8th grade wrestler in the finals. What is his national ranking?
  9. Pray that the wrestler was not trained by Gene Mills. If he was it could be a long day. I have never seen a Tennessee high school wrestler that knew how to do the whole Mills series properly.
  10. Battle Ground Academy was located in downtown Franklin for over 50 years before moving to the new location. They were land locked in their old location. Father Ryan was located in downtown Nashville for over 50 years before moving because they had no land to expand. Ensworth is a new high school in Bellevue but their grade school is still located in Nashville, one block from MBA. The high school was built in Bellevue because a large plot of raw land was donated.
  11. Feb. 15, 2007 is the date that someone told me.
  12. Yes, Johnny Rich is the head coach but one of the Garfinkle brothers (not sure which one) is now in the room working with the wrestlers. This seems to have had a major influence on the wrestlers and their skill level.
  13. You have still not answered the question of what Columbia Academy and Zion said about getting dusted by your team!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  14. MPHSTIGERS87, Why all of the complaints about private schools and football? You defeated Columbia Academy (4-6) 53-25, and Zion (1-9) 68-21. You had a great season and lost to the eventual state champion Jackson Christian in the State Semi-finals. I really don't understand your complaint. What did Columbia Academy and Zion say about getting dusted by your team?
  15. Sir, You may have some serious issues and should seek professional help ASAP.
  16. No, high school football is about being given a state championship. How is Liberty so good in basketball after having a school for less than 5 years.
  17. It is my understanding that Jeff wants out of MBA ASAP but does not want to take a reduction in salary. He loves the kids and families but one individual @ MBA is making his life less than happy. This same individual is the reason that Ricky decided to leave for Ensworth. Who would take the job if Jeff leaves? Would they give it to Dan?
  18. I don't want to burst your bubble but McCallie has more money (look at their endowment) than Brentwood Academy and Montgomery Bell Academy combined.
  19. Why not try this method: Tennessee Wrestling takes the lead and places both D1 and D2 together for one big individual state wrestling tournament. No team score. Have district tournaments (one day tournaments with 10-12 teams in each district) with the top 4 wrestlers from each district advancing to the region tournament. Four regions across the state with the top 6 wrestlers from each region advancing to the state tournament. Place the top 8 individuals in each weight classification @ the state tournament. The district, region, and state tournament would be double eliminaton. Use a group of individuals (coaches, former wrestlers, etc...) to seed the tournament like the NCAA does. No one individual would be able to vote on a person that they have any contact with on a regular basis. The wrestling calendar could look like the following: Individual District Tournaments Team Dual Match Region Tournament Individual Regional Tournament Team Dual Match State Tournament (The individuals responsible for seeding the Individual State Tournament meet and do their business at this event) Individual State Tournament
  20. First of all I will make myself very clear in that I do not feel that Coffee should be wrestling this season after his transfer. However, the TSSAA has cleared him to wrestle and he is a D2 2X state champion so how can he "STEAL" a seed? The public schools forced the split and Coffee wrestled in the division (D2) that his former school (Pope John Paul II) was assigned to compete in. Would Coffee or any other wrestler be allowed to petition the TSSAA so that he may wrestle in the D1 state tournament? In short he had not choice but to wrestle in D2 and he was very successful in that division but who knows how he will do in D1 due to a new school, coaches and new competition.

    2007 clinic bowl

Instead of the Clinic Bowl being a city vs country should it change to a public vs private school game? Would everyone like to see a MBA or BA vs Maryville, Riverdale or Melrose?
  22. Did I miss something or did they not include the Donald kid out of West Tennessee? Is Donald not the top LB prospect in the USA? What happened?
  23. I don't think that Ben was in the lineup for MBA at the state tournament last season. He is bigger than Will (already 6'3") now and he still could grow another inch or two. Let's not forget that Will was a good wrestler his junior season but he became a very good wrestler his senior year and did not start practicing with the team until after Christmas. Ben is a hard worker and a very good kid that Tennessee will have zero discipline problems out of.
  24. First of all I was a good ole public school educated kid. I had good teachers that cared and I attended a school with about 1000 students in a rual area. About five years ago I had lunch with an elected school board member from Nashville Metro Schools and he is the one that told me that they would not be able to handle the situation if the private school kids decided to return to the public school system. Yes, if you are with a small school in a rual community you would not notice any difference but in the major cities it would be total chaos.
  25. Very few, repeat very few high school coaches are ready to coach at the NCAA D1 level. It is often a challange for a high school coach to become a OC or DC on the D1 level. Between the media attention, recruiting, alumni, etc... no high school coach is ready to make the big jump unless they have previous D1 coaching experience.
