  1. Ryan takes their lumps every year at places like Collins Hill and Mater Dei, but it usually makes them better. IMO if you commit to wrestle someone, you should follow through. Besides, didn't Ryan graduate about half their starting team?
  2. Congrats to Patrick Marchetti who has committed to Westpoint. We're proud of you!
  3. Congrats to Raymond! Looks like they may be streaming some of the matches at www.ncaa.com. Any idea what time he might wrestle next?
  4. Thanks ironman for the great in-depth reporting, and you are partially right. He didn??™t finish at Ryan as he was expelled after one week of school, and transferred to TBSFBAG where he completed his secondary school education. Before Ironman reports anymore, let me assure you Son of Sam, Charles Manson and Jack the Ripper never attended Father Ryan either.
  5. The post from ironman is just stupid and doesn??™t deserve any more discussion. Marchetti must be a smart young man, based on the schools looking at him. However you appear to imply that he??™s smart for going 160. The decision as to who would wrestle 160 in the State belonged to Coach Simpson. He moved some other wrestlers around as well, and all were asked to do it for their team. It appears a good call was made by the Coach, as the moves worked out nicely for the FR team, Marchetti and Cash, as all were Champs. These two young men split this year with Marchetti winning 4-2 and Cash winning 5-4. If they had gone again, I??™m sure it would have been more of the same. Congrats to both of these (2) time State Champs.
  6. BCB, We all know why you are really retiring from Coach T. There's just not enough time in the day since you've learned the line "I thought you were S. Burkart" really DOES work for you in the bars. We don't believe you will be able to completely stay away, and hope at minimum you'll make it down to the Purple Invtl, and definitely to the Irish vs Irish meeting in Nash next year. We'll miss you, and I guess we should now buy stock in the Basketball section of Coach T.
  7. It's not posted yet. This is info I heard, and therefore my apology if not 100% correct.
  8. Apologize to certain wrestlers if I missed a couple, but think this is very close: 103 1st Calloway 2nd Mosley 3rd Ward 4th Johnson 5th Eady 6th Davidson 7th Olson 8th Jones 112 1st Watson 2nd Carney 3rd Bellet 4th Maurizi 5th Westbrooks 6th Boswell 7th Martin 8th Bond 119 1st Bauke 2nd Manley 3rd Ray 4th Garbarino 5th Simpson 6th Bellet 7th Martin 8th Wilson 125 1st Hooker 2nd Doster 3rd Francis 4th Anthony 5th Wright 6th Morgan 7th Burns 8th Garcia 130 1st Hayes 2nd Johnson 3rd Brannon 4th McClure 5th Simpson 6th Hinson 7th Marino 8th Taylor 135 1st Austell 2nd Stavrum 3rd Hanniford 4th Dupree 5th Clements 6th Stratman 7th Folk 8th McDonald 140 1st Duncan 2nd Johnson 3rd Brewer 4th Cate 5th Maroda 6th Bellet 7th Tull 8th Reber 145 1st Hayes 2nd Bateman 3rd Stone 4th Fettus 5th McGinn 6th Hunt 7th Tucker 8th Cherberski 152 1st Cash 2nd Martino 3rd Hershman 4th Alexander 5th Rupier 6th Craig 7th Agnew 8th McWaters 160 1st Marchetti 2nd Todd 3rd Ball 4th Downs 5th Henry 6th Glasscock 7th Briarcrest 8th Lambert 171 1st Wesley 2nd Floyd 3rd Ferguson 4th Proctor 5th Thomas 6th Gardella 7th McClure 8th Bowman 189 1st Jarrell 2nd Helton 3rd Mix 4th Holmes 5th Baron 6th Bastiane 7th Gore 8th Johnson 215 1st Sweat 2nd Brasher 3rd Mackey 4th Norcross 5th Moore 6th Johnson 7th Taylor 8th Barrett 285 1st Carrethers 2nd Severson 3rd Watson 4th Browner 5th Briarcrest 6th Satterfield 7th Obi 8th Bradley
  9. Let me apologize for the lack of young Ryan posters, but I think Coach S. is probably working them very hard to get ready, therefore no time for posting. Ryan should do well against St. Benedict, but the BA / McCallie one should be a nail-biter going either way. The Bro's won't win big, but should get past MBA and earn the right to face Baylor. In the end I predict Baylor vs Ryan, and ALL the Irish will have to wrestle their best, and for the whole match to overtake them. Anything can happen in wrestling, and it usually does. You coming?
  10. BCB, Don't think the Purple Mommies will be available, as they will be busy setting the refs straight when they miss the stalling calls. The Dads however might be persuaded for a cold Pepsi after the second round of matches. Call GM and set it up. Gotta go, there's a woman here that looks like Susie B, and I'm going to see how it works for me. Go Irish!
  11. Tourney you were speaking of is the Nashville Catholic Wrestling (NCW Open) at Father Ryan. Didn't get scheduled this year due to conflicts with other AAU tourneys and the schedules at Father Ryan. Don't know of any any post-season high school tourneys at this point.
  12. This Saturday 1/31 at 7:00 pm (CST) at MBA.
  13. Nice post oldlion, and good to have you switch from an observer to poster. A couple of additions to your comments. Don't forget it was also nice to meet the infamous Harry Thornton when we were having our soft drinks at Sugars. Since he was a little later, I'm still wondering if BCB called him in for reinforcement when he saw the elder members of the Royal family there, and became concerned there might be real trouble. After all, FR fans are a rough crowd and he was outnumbered. Our Irish friends to the East have a number of very good wrestlers. BCB's boys are both very tough, as well as the 103, 189, and 215. Congrats also to the 145 on winning a close one. Did you really mean to put the name Marchetti and bs in the same sentence? Don??™t think we??™re talking about the same guy, as the one I know is dead serious about everything. His wife was just saying the other day something about how he never lies??¦..or was that always lies? Never mind you were probably right. I trust the purple and green will cheer for each other next month at UTC. Go Irish!
  14. The MBA "faithful" will show for this one this year, as it could be a nail biter.
  15. It??™s different when coaches move kids up or down to help the team, but doing it for one individual might backfire. Granted some will elect not to wrestle to protect their seed, but appears to me it could work against the wrestler to do so in these situations. Wrestlers have to believe in themselves, and good ones know they are going to win when they go on the mat. Some turn right around and say there??™s a chance of losing, so let??™s not risk it. So a coach or wrestler chooses to protect their seeding. More than likely they are eventually going to have to beat this wrestler anyway, so why not now? How confident is the wrestler at State when he shake hands with the guy he guessed had a good chance to beat him weeks before? Seeding helps, but heart wins. Whether you are seeded or unseeded, you must have confidence you can win and beat all takers along the way. Always interesting to see what some will do before State.
  16. When these go down to the last match, it is very exciting. Congrats to the Blaze, and it appears they will be strong for years to come with their feeder program.
  17. The Mt. Juliet team looked good at the Ryan Invtl
  18. Who would you suggest they take lessons from? The young man from BA?
  19. Wow! You are a head coach and edited this and this is the best you can do? Let??™s see you named (3) FR families that were fantastic people, but 95% you??™d prefer to never see again? Strong programs have passionate fans??¦. Father Ryan, McCallie, Baylor, Collins Hill, Mater Dei just to name a few. Sure they want their team to win, and they know good wrestling when they see it. I think you might have your percentages backwards, because 95% of the ones I know are great families. As for calling out Pat Simpson I am absolutely amazed! The man has been inducted in the Wrestling Hall of Fame, is total class and this wrestling fan thinks you might need to take a lesson in humility by seeing his comments and re-reading the article in the Tennessean. http://www.tennessean.com/article/20090103...-1/PREPSFACTORY Did the Ryan fans boo him??¦??¦yes. When a young man comes over to taunt before shaking hands and tells them to be quiet, what else would you expect? Was it un-sportsmanlike? Ask the refs??¦..as they would have taken away a team point if so. One thing for sure, it will help sell more tickets to the Cash-Marchetti re-match (if it happens) on Jan. 20. IMHO way too much being made of this, and no question both are great wrestlers. I was there and saw no one touch the BA wrestler. I did see his Mom in his face which is what 95% of the parents I know would have done if their son did this. Some of these posts are hilarious, but your attack of FR and Pat Simpson is silly. By the way congrats on your lateral drop back in the 80??™s.
  20. Amazingly close. As I said in a previous thread, Bray had 13 of 14 State Champs in DII last year ranked as either 1st or 2nd in his final predictions. Only one outside was Max Jarrell who was ranked 3rd. I appreciate the time they put into it, and curious if these guys are as good at picking stocks as they are wrestling champs?
  21. Just heard some info on the Father Ryan Invitational: Weigh-ins Friday Jan. 2 are at 11:00 am, and wrestling starts at 12:30. Weigh-ins Saturday are at 8:00 am, and wrestling starts at 9:30. Finals Saturday scheduled for 1:00 pm. Times are CST.
  22. Which good teams? Looks like half of the Top 10 teams in the State will be there.
  23. Placers in both McCallie and Ryan (DI or DII) usually make some noise at State. Haven't seen the list of participants yet, but figure some tough teams will be at Ryan. Some who have participated previously include McCallie, Brentwood HS, MBA, Hendersonville, Brentwood Academy, Franklin, CBHS, and others. Always a strong one.
