  1. A truly outstanding player. An inside-outside threat who can run the floor. She'll thrive in coach Insell's system.
  2. Merrick attended Motlow State this spring and, as far as I know, plans to play there next season. She did not play this season.
  3. Riverdale up 6-0 in the third. The catcher has a grand slam.
  4. I think he's just wondering if they will be eligible for the region finals and substate. Reasonable question.
  5. Lots of good points on this thread, but I admit I'm a bit confused about the original post. How does having a basketball class in fourth period interfere with softball? Do they also practice softball during that period? If she simply doesn't want to fool with basketball at all right now, then that's a whole different matter.
  6. Franklin County 3 Columbia 1 (Columbia eliminated) Shelbyville-Lawrence County game under way. 1-1 in the third.
  7. Coffee County beat Tullahoma 4-1. Brycen Davis went the distance for Coffee County, and freshman Bradley Roepke went the distance for Tullahoma. Coffee County leading Columbia 6-0 after four. Estill for Coffee County. Horne knocked out for Columbia. Not sure who is pitching now.
  8. Which is why I said behind Lincoln County next year....otherwise Coffee County could be up there with them with Vincent pitching.
  9. As someone who has seen them all but doesn't have a dog in the hunt, I'd have to give a slight edge to Coffee County based on experience. Two talented, veteran pitchers and a large group of seniors (I think 7 on the field usually) who made it to the substate last year make this a team to be reckoned with at tournament time. Lincoln County has more than proven they can play with Coffee County. After all, they've beaten them twice already. If there is a chink in the armor for this very talented team, it is youth. Loaded with talented freshmen and sophomores. If they don't get tournament-itis but play the way they've played all season, they obviously are a threat to win it. Lawrence County has a veteran pitcher with the best off-speed stuff in the district. They are good. My only question about them is, do they know how good they are? There's a process a team goes through when it rises from near the bottom of the pack to near the top. What gets them finally over the top is belief that they can do it. If they believe, then I believe, too, and they are a legitimate threat to win it. I think there's an obvious divide between those three teams and the remainder of the district. While the rest have some strong points, there is a lot of youth in some key positions, and the pitching might not be quite at the level of the top three teams. They all have some young, up-and-coming pitchers, however, who could make the district a real horse race next year (behind Lincoln County, that is).
  10. Does Columbia have a tarp on their field?
  11. Six different starting pitchers in 12 district games. Gotta be some kind of record. Bizarre season to say the least.
  12. Anyone know the score of Wednesday night's game? It was a makeup from Tuesday night.
  13. Don't know. A poster above said they thought it was a sprain. I'm sure she'll see a doctor today to find out for sure.
  14. Unbelievable...talk about some nasty luck. --Senior pitcher Renea Shirley goes out with a broken hand. --Number two pitcher Hannah Sircy, a talented freshman who was the starting shortstop, strained a quad in pre-season and re-injured it in the season opener against Franklin County and hasn't been able to play or pitch since. --Freshman Brooklyn Boehm, who was slated to share JV duties with a sophomore, has really stepped up and done a good job keeping the team in games, but now she's injured. Hang in there ladies. It's a long time until the tournament, and this young team will get a lot better by then. Keep your heads up and play hard.
  15. Who is the player that left the team and what position did she play?
  16. District 8 will also be a six-team district from now on with Coffee County moving out. The district they are moving into will only have five teams. District 7 isn't the only one affected, though I certainly understand it is the district near and dear to your heart and what happens there means most to you.
  17. She is a very talented singer and loves the theater. She chose to pursue those things rather than basketball. She was the middle school conference Player of the Year her eighth-grade year. Very athletic, strong, can run like a guard and was very aggresssive. No doubt she could have been a program changer for Tullahoma since they've never really settled the post player puzzle, but you can't blame a kid for following what she loves. She's also a wonderful young lady, by the way.
  18. Did Frankliln County really win this by 34 like the scoreboard says? On the matter of Grundy's freshmen, number 24 is already a force but she is part of a really strong freshman class according to folks I've talked to who are familiar with the program. Sounds like Grundy will be strong for a while. I love the way this year's team plays. And, as far as outside shooting, number 23's range starts somewhere in the parking lot. A bit streaky like most outside shooters, but she can fill it up when left open. Sorry I don't know the girls' names.
  19. Didn't see a box score so I'm not sure. Grundy seemed to be pretty balanced. If I had to guess, I'd guess the point guard who also hit some key free throws down the stretch. Midway through the fourth quarter Grundy was up 11 and missed a three-pointer that could have salted it away. After that, Moore County showed great heart and fought back. Just couldn't get over the hump. Grundy seemed much like last year, I think. It's hard to point to just one thing that they do exceptionally well, but they are just relentless in every phase of the game and that pays off. I hear they have a great freshman class, so coach Woodlee should be set for the next few years. I think Moore County will be fine. Garland, who is a great shooter, hasn't really found her shot yet, and they've got to find a way to get the ball inside to Boyce and the sophomore post player more often. Both can score.
  20. My guess is Shelbyville 1. Lawrence County and Franklin County battling for 2 and 3. Lincoln County and Columbia battling for 4 and 5. Tullahoma and Coffee County battling for 6 and 7.
