  1. Congrats to CSAS, they played a great game last night. They are very well coached and have some extremely talented players. # 4 and #24 was shooting the lights out. We didn't have anyone to guard them one on one, maybe that was the reason for the zone. But they sure made us pay for that. Their halfcourt defense was treacherous. We had very few open looks, all night. I was kinda suprised by the pace they played on offense. I expected more of a up tempo run. I think they could have beat us by 30 or more last night. Seems like they where just taking it easy, maybe saving their energy for the rest of the year. If VB played them 10 times, we MIGHT win one of the games. Their inside game didn't show much at all and that may give them problems on down the road. I hear Clarksville Academy has some big guys and that could cause some matchup problems. But CSAS guards could cause them problems?? Anyway, I predict CSAS cruises over LV in the region finals. But I also thought SM would win at home last night. Good luck to both from here on out.
  2. Thanks mountaintroll, (I think)?? We'll take all the support we can get. Just don't get them fired up and have them take it out on us!!
  3. I think Signal Mt. will beat Lookout Valley as well. Just wish I felt the same for us against CSAS. Gonna be real tough for us Tuesday night. District 6 has three out of four in the region semi's, good luck here on out.
  4. Van Buren has defitintly suprised some of ya'll this year. They are pretty well balanced, with 3 legitimate scorers and some decent roll players. But come district tournament, the lack of seniors (only 1 on the team) and size could cost them in a pressure packed game. But if the 3's are falling, they might bring the title to the mountain. Good luck to all the rest of the way.
  5. Van Buren pulled it out in the fourth quarter, winning 63-57. (don't quote me on that exact score) Hats off to McEwen, they played great and led by as many as nine points a couple of times. The first quarter was uptempo and then McEwem slowed it down and ran some great half court offense sets. Van Buren turned up the defense in the 4th and took the lead. McEwen was well coached and played hard. Good luck to VB against NCS next week.
  6. I hope you are right C-hero. Although Culleoka and Moore County are pretty tough. Don't know much about Summertown though.
  7. Thanks NCSfan, some have said that McEwen could be the 2nd best team in district 10. You never know what to expect come tourney time. For the poster who asked earlier where Van Buren is, it is about 30 miles south of Cookeville. The school is located in Spencer, home of Fall Creek Falls State park.
  8. Its hard to make predictions on teams that you haven't seen play before. But I agree about the one game that could be a blowout. The NCS game at home against Cascade. Nothing against Cascade but they looked flat and emotionless against Forrest Tuesday night. I think Forrest has a good chance of getting a road win in Clarksville. If Eagleville plays with the same intensity that they played the district championship game with, I think they make it to the region finals. Last is the Van Buren-McEwen game. If VB plays to their potential, they will be hard to beat Saturday night. Maybe someone from Forrest can make a prediction on this game. I think they played both teams twice this year and could give us a breakdown of the matchups. Good luck to all teams and have safe travels.
  9. Lillard did have a great game for Eagleville last night. But I think that the outcome of the game and the mvp award could have easily swung Van Buren's way if we would have kept feeding it in to Smith, like we did to start the game. Eagleville never stopped him. We just stopped getting him the ball. Farris had a good game as well. I think he missed one 3pt attempt. Looks like he should have been shooting it more as well. It's a shame he did not get an all-tournament trophy. I know any of the players would trade an individual award for 1st place in the tournament. Eagleville definitly played harder and more as a team last night. Good luck to them in the regionals. Now if VB can beat Mcwen on Saturday night, they get to face Nashville Christian again. You know they can shoot the three and pressure our guards as well. Plus their coach will be going for his 1,000th win in that game. But both teams must win their first round game first. As for as the Eagleville player rejecting or pushing away the VB players hand last night, it does look bad, like poor sportsmanship. The ref didn't waste anytime letting him know about it either. I know our players are taught to play that way, but sometimes I wish they would play with a tougher mentality. I am in no way suggesting playing dirty or trying to hurt anyone. But if you do knock someone down by accident, (like the incident last night) let them lay there if they want to. It just looks like we play "soft" sometimes and come tournament time, the teams that play soft will be the first ones sent home.
  10. Congrats as well to coach Sullivan. I can see how the one poster can make these predictions. Anything can happen during tourny time. It is hard to beat a good team 3 times in a single season. Hopefully VB got their bad game out of the way last night against Pickett. Good luck Eagles (Van Buren, that is).
  11. The refs didn't win the game for PC tonight. VB played terrible on offense (forcing shots) and couldn't guard enough people against the three. Brown, I think that who it was, made some big shots from behind the line, as well as others. In the 4th quarter, VB played some questionable defense. Smith guarding a wing player and Baker trying to guard Capps? Smith had some great blocks against Capps, one was on a for sure dunk. One of the best blocks I've ever seen. Not sure why the defense was switched up. Anyway, the best team won tonight. Hope VB plays better in the district tournament or they won't go far.
  12. I just read the post about the PC/Clinton Ky game. Do we need to bring some refs with us tonight? I can't believe that many fouls was called. Did the players actually foul or where the refs just making it up? Kinda sounds like the refs we had at Harriman during the Christmas tournaments. They where plain awful!! Hopefully we will have a better crew tonight.
  13. I don't know if the crowds now are that big, but we do travel pretty well. Twenty-five year ago, there just wasn't much to do except go to ballgames. And winning teams sure do draw bigger crowds.
  14. Van Buren should have a large following make the trip Friday night. In the last two years, we have had several games that we have out numbered the home team. I know that won't be the case at Pickett Co. But I was dissappointed at the small number of fans you guys brought to Van Buren back in December. I'm sure the ol' wheelhouse will be packed. By the way, why do you call it that?
  15. I've played against most of your top ten (minus Aaron and the pre-3 pt guys) and watched the state tournament games as well. I'd take Parris over Mitchell. Chad Crouch needs to be on the list, regardless of how many points he scored. Any chance PC rests the big guns this Friday when Van Buren comes to town? I know VB would like a win, but the game means nothing and neither team can afford an injury with district tournaments starting next week. But a close game could get both teams ready for the tourney time.
  16. Great post BC_warriorhead. A lot of truth spoken. I've always said that sports prepare us for the real world. If you accept little effort or 2nd best now, you always will.
  17. If VB has a game against Eagleville like they did last night, it could get ugly. Seems like the rims had covers on them. Nothing would fall! Maybe that was our bad game and we can get it rolling again before we travel to Eagleville.
  18. Should be a good matchup. I've seen both teams play and we(Van Buren Co) coulda/shoulda beat both teams. We lost to Temple in overtime and lost to PC after being up by 13 in the fourth quarter. Temple is quick, PC has better shooters. Capps should control the paint. The guard matchup should be a classic with two explosive players going at it. I give the edge to Pickett.
  19. Looking forward to the game myself. I haven't seen Cascade play this season but seems like the first contest was a good one. Hopefully the gym will be packed and the weather cooperates with no snow. Maybe ya'll will not extend that win streak to 5 games on the mountain. Have a safe trip.
  20. Van Buren won by twenty-something! Maybe it was 23. Anyway they didn't attempt a shot in the last 4 1/2 minutes. Baker had his worst shooting game of the year. He was really off tonight. Smith controlled the inside and nailed some timely three's. Simmons and Farris was on the second half as well. The gym was packed and rocking on the Mountain tonight. Look forward to the rematch at Eagleville.
  21. Another vote for Baker from Van Buren. I believe there was two guys on him(one on each side) when he did the dunk just mentioned. It was definitly in traffic and with some authority.
  22. Well, as expected it was a good game. Hats off to PC for a strong comeback in the 4th. We knew it was coming, just wish we could have stopped it. I think VB did a good job against Wright for the first 3 quarters, but he took over in the 4th. His spin move is almost unstoppable and he didn't miss anything down the stretch. I think we made some poor shot selections in the final minutes, really rushed some when we got down. Baker was off a little on his shots,(everything was short). Looked like his legs just weren't under him. But he made up for it in second chance baskets. I'm glad the refs backed off a little in the 2nd half. Them picky fouls in the 1st half made for a boring 2nd quarter with 3 of the 4 big players on the bench.(Wright, Capps and Smith) Look forward to the rematch, maybe we'll split the season with ya'll.
  23. I hope to see a close game as well, decided by single digits. The key may come to down to foul trouble on the inside. If Smith gets in foul trouble, Capps could take over. But also vice-versa. Hope the refs let'em play and ignore the little ticky tack stuff. Wright against Baker should be fun to watch, two players who have worked hard and capable of big time performances. The mountain should be rocking tonight.
  24. Sad thing about it is this is the 3rd staight loss to Monterey, a team that I feel we are better than. Guess its a good thing we aren't in district 7a. Hope our shots are falling tonight, Pickett Co. girls have a good team as well. Good luck Eaglettes.
  25. Hopefully them 3's will be off next Tuesday when Pickett comes to Van Buren. /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> We know that Bibb is a very knowledgible coach as well, as he coached here a year before moving on to Pickett. Hey 7asuperfan, you gonna be able to make the game? Hope to see you and the Bobcat nation make the trip down Hwy 111. Should be a big crowd, just hope we can hang with you guys.
