Gallatin vs Brentwood sept 24 th @ Brentwwod
kkbruin replied to runninblind's topic in Class 5A & Class 6A
I agree on the competitive game, last year came down to the last posession or is my old timers kicking in? Is the RB (Enrique Perry?????) still there? I think he returned kicks as well. -
Are they (Ensworth) starting a different QB than started the first two games or are they platooning? From reading the MBA comments after they beat Ensworth, it sounds like Ensworth has a great team, just shot themselves in the foot too much.

Brentwood vs. Ravenwood - The Battle of the Wood
kkbruin replied to lbhiii's topic in Class 5A & Class 6A
Wow lbhiii . . . just wow! I will also add that Pinkw . . . er . . . Ravenswood probably took more cheap shots than any team I have seen. I'm not sure how many personal fouls they had but a couple extended Brentwood drives and only hurt their own team. Undisciplined! -
If he needs a bodyguard, I have taken 1 1/2 hours of Rex-Kwon-Do. It's part of my training to be a cage fighter.

Uncle Rico, is that you?!?!

Agreed on both points. The yardage totals were very close and despite being down 20-7 at half, Brentwood had outgained Oakland. All of which means nothing really. The verdict came down to the same thing so many games do: turnovers, special teams and big plays. The teams are closer than some of the Oakland foks would care to admit.

Yes a loss is a loss and I know Coach Crawford doesn't believe in moral victories, but I believe the Bruins earned a ton of respect in this one. Hats off to Oakland for pulling out a victory - they earned it. I hope the big fella for Oakland is OK because it didn't sound good. Good luck to both teams the rest of the year. To all of the prognositcators(?) listed above, stick to Coach T and stay away from Vegas. Really - I don't post much but reading your posts keeps this place fun.

WHO will be the next Coach at INDY ? ? ?
kkbruin replied to sarahpalin's topic in Class 5A & Class 6A
Very well informed!!!!!!!!! What level of excitement does Dyson bring to the Indy fans? Has this been announced yet? -
Franklin has more "coaches" than any other team in the district by far. PhillyFan & Crony, do your thing. The last time I checked Franklin was only 1 game behind Hillsboro. Someone help me out: Does the regular season only count for tournament seeding or are the top teams guaranteed to advance based on the regular season? Bruins seem to have turned a corner lately. As a lot of us suspected at the beginning of the season that there were no dominant teams and I think this has been proven. Hillsboro is first because they have managed to win a lot of close games.

mrob, Please explain to me, exactly, what you meant by this because I don't understand. Is it the same for all schools or is this unique to franklin? And did you see JayJohnson at a tea party holding a sign or does that hold some esoteric meaning as well? thank you.

Not much of a write up in the Tennessean. Someone give a recap of what happened. Just from looking at the box score, bballfan123 may have been right about the inside game as McMillian and Harrison combined for 34 points.

Best teams in the state?? I doubt that seriously!!! Probably sarcasm here Beavo. What was the score? Not in Tennessean.

Congrats to the MUS Owls Ranked 9'th in the Country!!!
kkbruin replied to VolunteerCoach's topic in Division II
Had never heard of Sonny until now. Besides the MUS - White Station rankings, Franklin is ranked ahead of Brentwood who beat them twice (both close) and Smyrna (5-4 ranked #9) is ranked ahead of at least three teams that beat them. -
Maryville vs. White Station 6A State Championship
kkbruin replied to Red Rebels's topic in Class 5A & Class 6A
Not that you need a Brentwood fan to come to your defense but I just watched the film of the Brentwood - White Station game last night and this is what I saw: At the end of almost every play, whether they were the bug or the windshield, guys were helping each other up, patting each other on the helmet and getting back and ready to go hard again. Play hard and play with class and that's what I saw. As you stated, probably an isolated incident - bad things happen in the trenches sometimes. I also saw you get wiped out again - OUCH! Nobody has any idea why it took so long for the ambulance to get there. -
Agreed - big props to Franklin.

I just checked WNPT's website (Nashville PBS station) and the game is not on the schedule. Maybe they haven't updated it yet.
-
If it is true that the DII games are not being broadcast, I can't decide whether this is more idiotic or pathetic. It's a tough call. Outside of the 6A championship, which is the division my son plays in, the MBA-MUS matchup is by far the most intriguing to me for many of the reasons mentioned above. WUXP is the Nashville station and I just checked their listings online. They do not show the DII games scheduled for Thursday but they do show the D1 games being broadcast starting at noon - very disappointing. Instead they are showing - "Home for the Holidays (HD, PG-13) An unemployed mother and her gay brother brace themselves to spend the Thanksgiving holiday at home with their overbearing parents." OK, I think I'm coming down on the side of pathetic.

Maryville vs. White Station 6A State Championship
kkbruin replied to Red Rebels's topic in Class 5A & Class 6A
I have to admit I learn a LOT on CoachT. I learned that Brentwood, who was a tipped pass away from getting the chance to get stomped by Maryville, is irrelevant (bigredbigblue) and was manhandled by both Oakland and Blackman. I won't disagree on Oakland but if memory serves, Brentwood was ahead 27-7 with 8 minutes left in the Blackman game. They blew it for sure but manhandled? Back to the game at hand - Does Maryville blitz much during the game or sit back in coverage? The Bruins rarely pressured the White Station QB with their front four and only blitzed a couple of times. He usually had plenty of time and its hard to cover their receivers that long - plus with his size and athletic ability, he's a dangerous run threat. -
And BHS was missing a couple of football players when they just beat Beech in a game that counted. Which football players also play basketball? Dugan and Hagaman are seniors and Killett is a junior.

Franklin Rebels (#4) @ Brentwood Bruins (#2)
kkbruin replied to huskergymnast33's topic in Class 5A & Class 6A
I will echo all of the comments above and add this: The Franklin team coming over to pray with Brentwood after the game is nothing but CLASS and shows what fine young men they are. I'm sure their parents and all of the Franklin fans are very proud of them. I am very proud of the Bruins for overcoming all the injuries and distractions this week and never giving up. Let's heal up and get ready for next week! -
I don't see how you could put franklin ahead of brentwood when they lost all three times to brentwood last year and at least one of the jv games wasn't even close. Couldn't resist and yes, I know it really doesn't matter what happened last year. I would think after Hillsboro, you just don't know how the rest are going to shake out. I'm guessing no real dominant team with lots of exciting games.
-
Did they win it last year? I know they lost in the tournament. I'm with you regarding ranking these teams - I have no idea. Last year I thought Overton had the best young talent.

Just read some of the replies to your post and you will understand. In reality, a private school has to "recruit" every student at their school. They do it by providing things that parents don't perceive that they can get at the public school they are zoned for or at another private school (better academics or athletics, safer environment, tradition, etc. and remember I typed PERCEIVE). You don't think they recruit arts / theater students? Of course they do - they spend big $ for their new art and theater buildings and that lures parents who have that orientation. If a parent doesn't believe their child would be better off at that school they would not send them there - period. My kids are at a public high school and they both used to be at a private school. I believe they are getting just as good an education than they were and even better in some areas. Unless there is proof that they are actually paying off the parents to send their children to a school, this whole thing is just a pointless conversation. Of course I am contributing this epistle to it - sorry! Put reasonable rules in place and try to make sure they are being followed.
