  1. All I can say is things aren't always as they appear from the outside.
  2. It was in the JC Paper today that the Head coach at Happy Valley was, for lack of a better word, fired. Their defensive coordinator left because of this as well. The reason being was the Athletic Director thought that the program was going in the wrong direction. So Happy Valley is left coachless, and right before spring practice. I thought he was doing a good job, going about .500 aint bad at all, and he seemed to be building the program up further and further. All Happy Valley football coaches was asked to resign. Verran was the only one given a option to return as an assistant coach. (which his pride will probably not let himself do) Based on what I know . . . I agree with the AD. There is coaches in the waiting for the job, the AD just has to make decision and pick one.
  3. I wouldn't worry to much about whether Smith stays or not. You all may want to run him off after two or three years. I hope it works out for you all, but he was way over his head at Science Hill. He said 3 yrs ago that he "had more talent than he ever had before" and went 3-7. "All I need a defense for, is to get me the ball back." And so on and so on. Coach Smith, do what you say. Lots of talk and lots of promises. "I'm here to win a state championship". We at Science Hill would have been tickled to death with a conference championship for starters. But anyway... Good luck to Smith and Moore County.
  4. As I see it, the best running back next year is going to be a sophomore. I know of one kid that has "some" discipline issues. He has "talked" of going to other schools. He's a good kid, I hope he follows the strong discipline that is on the way and MUCH NEEDED in my opinion not just for him, but the whole team. If he goes, I wish him well, but staying would be in his best interest, especially if he has any aspirations of playing college ball. And all the strong defensive players are graduating. Not to say there is not some good ones left. No one in my opinion coming up can't easily be replaced. Just my overview and opinion of what is going on with the Science Hill football program.
  5. First of all there is NO big manipulation or rebellion going on from the assistant coaches at Science Hill. Overbay feels wronged by some goings on by the powers that be. He's a good man and hopefully will rise above what has happened to continue doing the fine job he has done in the past. Carter is at Science Hill for the challenge of coaching at the highest level in high school football. At a very promising program that has a strong chance at great success. Declining numbers of enrollment and the threat of Kingsport annexing more of Colonial Heights were factors in leaving. Money was NOT a major factor in coming. Although I'm sure the extra money is nice.
  6. I believe it is very clear that Science Hill is not a very well coached team. Coach Smith said "all I need a defense for is to get me the ball back". O K A Y . . . Hmmm . . . 13-15 in his first 28 games. Is this the direction Science Hill had in mind?? Next year is a new season, new field, new stadium and time for a new coach. Just my opinion
  7. That is not a very forgiving attitude. We have all made mistakes or done things we wish we would not have. I believe Coach Higgins is a good teacher, a good coach, and a good family man. It took some courage for Science Hill to give him a second chance to coach a game he loves. I wish him and the Lady Toppers much success! Hey, I'm all for 2nd chances and yes everyone makes mistakes. BUT, I also believe there should be time to have a seat and reflect on one's own actions, and let alittle time pass. I personally don't think 3 or 4 months is near enough time to reflect! BUT, the decision has been made (I strongly disagree), I will support Higgins and hope he does very, very well.
  8. That is just what Science Hill needs is a player slappin D-B reject!
  9. Peterson was there two years. It was a combination of lots of complaints on the job and in the coaching ranks. I wish her luck. The talent IS there, it just has to be handled right. And true, girl??™s sports at Science Hill and anywhere else for that matter, ever gets the attention the boy??™s sports do. Female sports have come a long way in the last 10 to 20 years. Just a note: Of the 6 seniors graduating from SH, 2 are going onto college to play ball and 2 others have the opportunity to play also if they so choose. With the right coach, I look for Science Hill to make another strong run for the conference title again next year. Boone will be the team to beat, I am sure.
  10. No . . . she was told, resign or else.
  11. Science Hill took a pretty good hit with graduation, but has lots of talent coming back and up. Big problem though . . . NO QUARTERBACK! /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="
  12. Science Hill is looking for a new softball coach.

    Catchers

Kayte Brown of Science Hill has signed for a full ride scholarship at Tennessee State.

    Big 9

Science Hill should certainly be the team to beat again this year. In my opinion the coach doesn??™t give the batting enough attention. Compared to pitching and defense. If the bats get going this season along with the defense, Science Hill should get to state. We??™ll see come May. [Just my opinion]
  15. I am sure Aaron Douglas is a fine football player, but he is no Jason Witten. Not many 6??™5??? 265lbs and runs 4.6 in the 40, with hands like glue, out there.
  16. With Science Hill having three WR??™s out for the season, passing shouldn??™t be a factor (although wr - Smith is formidable at 6??™5???). Kinley and his two main running backs all have 4.5 speed or better. Kinley was clocked at 4.4. If Science Hill??™s defense holds, it should be interesting.
  17. S-Hill gets whipped tonight. Hope I am wrong. I just haven't seen much offense in spring or early Aug. /sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":(" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />
  18. Yes, his Dad is on the coaching staff, but do not know specifically what he coaches. Shorty Adams has also been brought on as a assistant coach.
  19. Lots of good talent coming back and moving up, but with Smith??™s ???system??? and the lack of a strong quarterback to execute, I expect much of the same kind of season we seen in 2007. 2009 and 2010 looks to possibly be more successful. I foresee another 3-7 for 2008 or worse. But, thankfully Smith guarantees S-Hill will never be worse than 3-7, so surely the near future looks bright.
  20. The Hill, I think 1bigg meant D1A and D1AA college ball. Although I believe Trent has a good shot at D1A-AA and Duanah does too, even though Duanah hasn't had a good senior season. Maybe even Fields could go D1AA. Just my opinion.
  21. AMEN I agree 100%, that is exactly what I see!
  22. Can someone please explain to me why S-Hill isnt playing their best athletes both ways?? This isnt college ball! With the arrogance of the head coach of S-Hill, I would say S-Hill will not win another game this season. (They MIGHT beat Karns, I have my doubts) What a shame with the athletes that S-Hill has. 3-7 or 4-6 unbelievable!
  23. I have now witnessed 6 Science Hill games and I have had a positive attitude towards the new coach and his philosophies toward the game of football. After last night I am under the opinion that coach Smith needs to concentrate on coaching and NOT talking so much. After last nights game, I dont really know what to say. Bearden is a very good football team and S-Hill is not as bad as they are showing the last two games. There is so much talent and potential on this team, I just hate to see it wasted and not used on both sides of the ball. I hate it for the seniors. The majority of this team is juniors and sophomores with a very strong freshman class coming up. BUT THIS TEAM IS CAPABLE TO WIN NOW WITH THE RIGHT DIRECTION! I just dont know if coach Smith is capable. I wonder if Keith Turner and the powers that be are wondering if they should have went with coach Woods from M-West or coach Turner from Carson-Newman?
  24. YES! And with Hill at QB and Trent as fullback! Hill runs left or right or throws. Trent blows open holes for Duanah or Kinley. Or heck, give the ball to big Trent and let him ramble some. Some of these guys can definitely go both ways and when the schedule gets tougher, for S-Hill to be consistent on offense they need to play their play makers both ways. I agree with Cap1's post - "Ride your stallions" Just my opinion.
