  1. RR, While Powell does have a real good team, MHS fumbled twice (both fumbles cost them) and Powell returned a kick for a TD. West played only the first two plays due to a deep thigh bruise. MHS helped Powell a lot. But, also don't take anything away from Powell. They're good. However, the magician will work the magic with this group of MHS freshmen and you should expect this group to live up to expectations.
  2. Order me a case for the Maryville threads to spray on the biggest Troll.
  3. Bldrunner always tries to hijack threads. Please ignor him if it's not regarding the thread!! How's WB injuries? Who's returning? There are rumors regarding suspended WB players (I HOPE NOT). Without naming players, any truth to the rumors.?
  4. Glad my kid's not a QB. I don't think I can complete with tpoole.
  5. Grey & fathereb, Don't you know you can't win a pi$$ fight with a skunk. Give it up! Back to Powell please.
  6. Not mad....I know the seats are nice in the Ridge. You can see the "seats" on any Friday night. The "Black Hole" is just a plain and business-like stadium....with butts in the seats.
  7. Adam Koontz....and you hit the nail on the head!
  8. Yez, eye haiv seed it....and hits reel purty. Too bad kick bawl gets 1st billing at Oke Gridge. Maybe those two head coaches need to have a loser leave "campus" match.
  9. I've got a great idea! Why doesn't MHS build a stadium "off campus"..say at the middle school..and build it great big. They could then put together a weak team and commence to looking at all those "beautiful" seats every Friday night (empty of course). And, just for kicks maybe MHS could get GQ to get into fights with opposing coaches.
  10. What were the scores of the Freshmen & JV games?
  11. Coach Wilhite from WBHS was quoted in the paper that these games would count...for the wild card spots. If true, I already hate the new playoff system!
  12. Probably not because too much gate money (and tradition) is involved. In this rivalry game, regardless who wins, Maryville & Alcoa both expect to make the playoffs without needing the wild card spot....so for now they'll play each other. Other teams who might play Alcoa or Maryville might need the wild card spot and, therefore, would think differently. So if wins/losses count toward wild card spots, look for more teams to approach tough non-district games this same way.
  13. Going forward.... (ignoring the past).... IF the win/loss record matters in the wild card selection process for the playoffs next year (the article quotes head coach Wilhite from WBHS saying that non-district wins & losses do matter next year), then I understand why WB & HHS won't play Alcoa in football. It could hurt their chances for making the playoffs if they got beat. Moreover, if the win/loss record matters for the wild card selection process, more teams will be padding their schedules over the next couple of years to insure wins in the non-district games (like Ohio St. does in college). No one will be playing Alcoa in a non-district game except those who think they might never need a wild card spot. Say goodbye to tough rivalry games (if this is the case)....(but, I'm not sure it is the case). Maybe, someone else knows for sure regarding the wins and losses in non-district games "counting" in some way toward the wild card spots. If this is the case, then I think TSSAA has a major problem. If so, why would anyone schedule a non-district opponent that might beat them?
  14. I'm showing my age, but many a good game occurred in the "huge" Basil Elementary gym.
  15. Using this misguided logic, I know several folks who work for the City of Maryville (some are teachers) who need to be fired because they aren't sending their kids Maryville. Furthermore, using this logic, there are coaches at Alcoa who should be fired (because they teach at Maryville). Lots of Blount Countians work for or in Alcoa and don't send their kids to Alcoa, guess they should be fired too. Give a break!! A job should have nothing to do with an employee's "legal" personal life. Just ask Bill Clinton. My earlier remark about Chip Fuller being given a job were with tongue firmly implanted in cheek. I just made the point because Maryville would be accused of recruiting if the shoe were on the other foot. What's really interesting to me is that you've accused the Blount County Central Office of having a lack of manhood over a "sports" related issue. The Blount County Central Office is probably more concerned with "education" (as they well should be) and whether or not a principal in doing his/her job. This focus on "education" might be a foreign issue to some observers.
  16. Agree. Someone's good at homework. Hmmmmm.....I gotta an 8th grader. I think I'll make some calls.
  17. Patton is "supposed" to go to Maryville. That's where he lives. I think Heritage must have been recruitin' him by hirin' his Daddy. Now they hired Chip Fuller to get his kids.
  18. Ditto. Cody CANNOT be replaced with anyone as good as he is. While others may do their best in his absence and perform fairly well, they ain't Cody! I hate to hear he's out for the game.
  19. There will be a memorial service at 5:30pm on Tuesday, August 26 at New Providence Church followed by a celebration of life reception in fellowship hall at the church. The graveside internment will be Tuesday (open to the public), August 26 at Grandview Cemetery at 2pm. Coach Campbell was one of the greatest men I've ever know. He's coaching from above now!
  20. HHS did not send tickets to MHS, but the HHS office is still selling tickets. The gates and ticket booths open at 4:30pm (according to the HHS office). I don't think there is such a thing as a sell out. Reserve seats may all be gone, but SRO seats won't run out.
  21. Key word for me is "had" (NOT "have") several years ago.... Several of my son's (he's a Rebel) BEST friends are Chase James, Logan Sharp, Micah Dando, et al, and many others. I know a lot of these kids personally and I've seen these kids play (and many others from Alcoa for years). I have NEVER seen such actions from any current members of Alcoa teams. Gary Rankin & his staff are nothing but class acts!!! Over the years, MHS has had it's share of "acting" like punks too (but rarely under GQ)! I apologize to Halls folks. I thru with AHS on this tread....back to Halls vs MHS.
  22. He didn't call anyone a punk or thug. He said they were "acting" like one. Huge difference....at least for me. You're the one who is name calling.
  23. I couldn't agree more...and I've been a Rebel all my life. There are many problems to fix in the next few days or Halls (and then Alcoa) will be celebrating a lot.
  24. No sandbagging here......You haven't seen what I've seen.
