  1. Just to confirm, Tellico Plains will scrimmage Copper Basin on Aug. 6 at Tellico. At last check, the time was not set, but it will likely be around 6 p.m. This is Tellico's only scrimmage before the jamboree.
  2. Tellico lost Zeke Massingill, Taylor Burris, Casey McAlister, and Butch McMinn on the line. McMinn was a tight end, so you can count him however you want, but typically that's added to the line. That's more than two. As I posted earlier, the team rotated linemen so much that you could consider about eight guys as starters.
  3. Tellico loses more than two starters on the offensive line. But with the way they rotate the linemen, several backups are at least somewhat experienced. Defense lost way more than four starters. They lost nearly all the front 7 (five starters if I'm adding it up correctly) and two in the secondary. That's what they need to be worried about more than anything. But I've learned over the years not to put too much stock in passing leagues to determine possible outcomes, especially when the teams in District 5-AA (plus Tellico) are run-heavy teams.
  4. Sequoyah did take Tellico to overtime last year. But Tellico also beat Sweetwater and Meigs County by a combined score of 79-8 and played Polk County closer than McMinn Central played them. I get your point about how dropping down helped Tellico and I agree that it did make things a little easier in some cases. But last year's Tellico team had a lot of talent. I don't know and don't want to guess at how they would've fared against Central, but they could've been competitive against their old district (plus Sweetwater). Simplifying last year's success by saying it was due to dropping down isn't exactly accurate.
  5. I don't want to get in the middle of hypotheticals, but keep in mind that the entire time Tellico was in Region 3-3A for football and District 5-AA for other sports, they were actually playing up in class due mainly to travel. Some schools in their old district/region were twice as big. So "dropping down" actually meant Tellico was finally playing in the right classification again.
  6. The Advocate & Democrat has not awarded a Coach of the Year award the last three seasons in any sport. It was not stopped just for the year Coach Hunt "would've won hands down."
  7. Tellico Plains-Rockwood has been postponed until Tuesday, Dec. 22 with tip-off scheduled for 6 p.m.
  8. Haha Philip, I see you're sticking with the strategy to keep the girls out of the spotlight that we talked about a couple of weeks ago. As far as this team goes, they're very talented. Can they hang with Goodpasture, Unicoi, and all the other teams everyone drools over (and for good reason)? Maybe. Sweetwater's record is actually more like 26 or 27-2. There's a few games not listed on this site that they played. But obviously the games you see on here have to be at least somewhat impressive. They have two great pitchers in Kayla Kerns and Ashley Miller. Offensively, you don't want to face them when they're swinging the bat well. They have seven hitters capable of going deep. The other two are excellent contact hitters (one's a slapper, the other just finds holes in the defense). And they do have one heck of a coach. So we'll see how far they can get. I know no one around here is looking past the next game simply because of the disappointment from last year. That team was equally as talented but lost in the region semi-finals to Chattanooga Christian. As far as making it to Murfreesboro, we know (if they make it out of the district tournament) they'll have to go through Chattanooga Christian or Sequatchie in the region and the sectional could be against a Goodpasture, DeKalb County, Greenbrier, Station Camp type of team (this region goes through Region 4). So again, this team is very talented and a trip to Murfreesboro would not shock anyone around here. But it's a tough road so we'll see how it goes. I could absolutely understand a #1 ranking, but I think Goodpasture and Unicoi have earned higher rankings. All three teams have had amazing seasons, but GP and Unicoi have been fortunate to get some tournaments in that boost their schedule strength while Sweetwater has only been able to complete one tournament (which they won) all year due to weather and other factors.
  9. Sweetwater won 7-6 in nine innings. It was a great game.
  10. Sweetwater players on the All-Region 2-2A team include Sammy Blomstrom (Athlete on both sides of the ball), Tyler Bradley (OL/DL), Josh Berrong (FB/LB), Tyler Richesin (QB/DB), and Chris Gibson (TE/DL). Honorable mentions include Briar Daniels (OL/DL) and John Michael Knuckles (LB).
  11. I can talk about any of the teams from Robertson County. Springfield, Jo Byrns, Heritage, East, Greenbrier...heck, I even know a little about good ol' BDP even though they're in Sumner Co. The difference is I don't have time or a want to chime in 534 times about Greenbrier sports. I saw this forum, decided to see how much crap Greenbrier fans would talk, since that's what you're known for, and saw how yall kept talking about a team you know nothing about. I've seen Central a couple of times, loosely keep up with the teams back home, and decided to post some information about the game. Tell me how I'm off with any of the observations.
  12. Typical Greenbrier fan....get ready for it Central.
  13. All this talk about who's better is pointless if you haven't seen each other play. I haven't seen Greenbrier this year, but I'm from RobCo. and it seems this is just a regular year-in-year-out Greenbrier team (not a slam, just saying this team is similiar to how it always is). I've seen Central twice (at the Lenoir City scrimmages and the Loudon jamboree). So let me speak to both fan bases and give you guys a better sense of these teams to stop this bickering. Greenbrier: Central is a lot like Pearl Cohn. They have some athletes, a lot of speed, and some size. They aren't technically sound all the time, but they overcome that with their athletes. Region 3 was very competitive this year and had some darn good teams. I've seen Greenbrier neutralize athletic teams before and that's what it'll take Friday night. Central: Greenbrier is a mix of Meigs Co. and Polk Co. They usually have some big guys, good lines, and play smash mouth football. The passing game isn't one that will win games, but good enough to keep you on your toes. They usually have some quality running backs, occassionally some with speed. This team is scrappy and plays a lot better than its talent sometimes. You're gonna have to play hardnosed football for four quarters to win. My prediction is Central by a touchdown. They've had a knack for pulling out games this year against a variety of teams. it should be a good game.
  14. Just to straighten things out a little bit.....Sweetwater was the better team when the played Polk. SHS was more physical, had better athletes, and made more plays. Polk did not get "robbed." If you're refering to the kickoff that was muffed, the refs absolutely made the right call. It was an inadvertant whistle, and, by rule, meant a replay of the kick. Polk is a good team and Friday's game should be a great one. Sequoyah has a lot going for them and Polk is fighting for the region championship. I'm not going to post a prediction, but neither team needs to compare past results. All that matters is Friday night and that will decide which team is the better one.
  15. Wait just a minute, for fans of Gatlingburg-Pittman and Sweetwater. I'm not going to pretend Sequoyah is a powerhouse, but Pittman had better not come in to Madisonville too cocky. Sweetwater did show up for that game Frdiay night 2Afootballman, but they didn't seem interested in playing the 2nd half. Sequoyah has the makings to be a solid team and motivation won't be a problem. Tellico Plains is an extremely young team and they played a good team last Friday. Pittman might win, but if it's a game where they "score as much as they want" I will be highly surprised. This Sequoyah team is improving quickly and isn't just some pushover. They did have some trouble stopping Sweetwater, but they only gave up 21 points and actually outscored Sweetwater in the second half. It was more of a bend-don't-break defense. But good luck to all Monroe County teams this week. There's going to be 2 good games here.
