The firebirds have a 75 man roster with 80 percent of those players are freshman and sophmores. ONLY NINE SENIORS ON THIS TEAM. Maplewood has blown out the firebirds the past three years now. Does that mean there not going to make the playoffs, well history has proven otherwise. Saying that pearl cohn cant stop the outside. If any other team in this region played Maplewood. No team in this region can stop maplewood in the outside. This a young football team, let them grow a little bit before we start counting them out. There defense is very under rated. When you play a school like maplewood who is likely to compete for the 4a state tittle vs a team who lost over 20 seniors the past three years. Than the firebirds will fall a little bit. But trust me dont throw these firebirds under the bus. Because when teams do that. That is when this team really gets going, and there band

GAME 1: MEMPHIS EAST VS MAPleWOOD Maplewood 13 Memphis east 6 In the first game of the double header at Pearl Cohn. Was expecting to be a blowout, but the fans who turn out to see the first game actually got there money worth. The mustangs of memphis east played tough with last year runner up in 4a. Maplewood did not look so sharp but this is very early in the year so they can iron out the wrinkles. In the middle of the third quarter you would think memphis east was winning the ball game when it was tied at 6 a piece. The way they were celebrating on the side line. This memphis east team showed class and heart. They should be a dark horse in there respected region. The maplewood panthers have to work on the offense. If the strong run game isnt going then they cant get the passing game to go. They did a good job of moving the ball on with there strong running game. And opened it up a little bit with there passing game. The firebirds did a great job on the defensive front being very aggressive and getting after the ball. The only problem is they are YOUNG, and will make mistakes the two quarterbacks have to learn how to get the ball off on time, but that will come in due time. Trezvant has a decent team and look like they can make a run in the playoffs this year with there quarterback and his strong arm leading the way, however injures are apart of the game and the firebirds left this team a little banged up on the way back to memphis. But all in all it was a great game by both teams and both showed good class in doing so Region 4-3a Standings Pearl Cohn 1-0 Greenbrier 1-0 Sycamore 1-0 White House 0-0 Station Camp 0-1 Macon Co. 0-1 Dekalb Co. 0-1 THE ATOMSHPHERE Pearl Cohn the host school did a great job putting this one togather. with repainting a new firebird logo on thier press box and having some good food and some great band shows. There was no fights or any major problems. Both Pearl Cohn and Maplewood staff did a great job with the food and any other contributions. Its great to see two black inner city schools coming togather and putting on a great event. Alot poeple can say what they want, but Pearl Cohn is a great place to watch some football. I hope to see this contiuning for some time. NEXT WEEK Both Maplewood and Pearl Cohn will square off in one of the best rivals in metro. At Maplewood it should be a great game. Records will be put aside and bragging rights will be on the line. SHOULD BE FUN!!

The firebirds look pretty good for a young team in training against 5a Hillwood. Won there jamboree 12 to 0. Granted Hillwood is in the 5a whole.. They look pretty sharp for a young team. The defense is what makes the firebirds tick..They had four picks on defense in just only a half of play..The offense look much better than what they did at Mcgaovck..They have a target in a sophmore wearing number 2(The firebirds are known for having big tall wide outs in recent history) He caught one for a touchdown, and plays great defense..The quarterback situation number three got the start..However i do not think the starting quarterback is his for the taking. It would be good to see how both quartebacks perform in practice this week.. Still look for two quarterback system..The young birds have a spark. But lets and see if these young birds can catch fire by saturday..They should be tested early..by memphis team and maplewood in week 1.. However i watch alot of metro ball but this young team has it in them to win some games and upset some teams along the way

Pearl Cohn vs White House will be televised this year

The firebirds head into this season with alot of questions as well know..The two biggest questions is who is going to be the quarterback? and the offensive line? Except a two quarterback system for the firebirds this year number 15 and 11 should share time under center. The offensive line has improve just a little bit. Did not have a good outing aganist Mcgaock last tuesday, but did much better on friday's scrimmage against pope john paul. However still much work is needed to be done before the jamboree on saturday aganist Hillwood. Talking to the some of the players on this years team. None of them are looking over memphis trezvant in week one. The defense maybe the most underated defense the firebirds in years. Yes a young secondary but the d-line and the linebackers (jarvis roberts and co) will lead the defense for the firebirds. It would not be a suprise if the firebirds upset this year 3a state favorites White House. This will not be the year of expectations for the Firebirds.. More of the year of suprises. The band also has a new look with a drum major, and they two look young but they will be ready by August 23

from what i heard Maplewood lost to hillwood, and Pearl Cohn beat MBA

I would throw in Pearl Cohn back to back 1996 and 1997 beating Knox Halls 18 to 14 in 96. Then beating Maryville 36 to 16. This is the only school that has beaten Maryville in the 4a state tittle game

RIGHT..coaching and the right players. however two of the three of these schools are some really good progams in the nashville public school system pearl cohn and hillsboro. Did we forget these two schools use to play each other on the first week of the season. big rival game it use to be. I am from this area and i support both schools. It would be good to see this rival game back in the north nashville area.

the motion passed to make the Pearl Cohn cluster expand. Alot poeple was saying Hillsboro would drop off. Not so much they are expected to have more kids in thier school. Pearl Cohn will only go up about another 150 students, Hillwood would drop to about of total of 950 students..How will it effect the football side of things?

will region three win a playoff game this year

Last year classic the Nashville schools Maplewood and Pearl Cohn swept the Memphis Schools at Maplewood last year, but it was just wasnt about the games it was about getting the inner city community excited about football. And that they did. It was a great experenice. Maplewood and Pearl Cohn will host Memphis schools at Pearl Cohn this august. Then the following week will play each other next week at Maplewood. It will be a great week for inner city football to kick off the football season

Hillsboro has a really good team not a great team. this should be a good first week test for Franklin but not looking foward to it. I am looking forward to the Maplewood game. The last team to beat the burros. Hillsboro however still at the top of there region but Maplewood is closing in fast. Plus Antioch not that good going into this spring, shouldnt get to excited off of that spring game. Never the less this hillsboro still consider as the best metro football program in Nashville since 2003(1. Hillsboro 03 champs 2. Pearl Cohn 97, 98 champs, 3. Maplewood). Should be an exciting season

Pearl Cohn won the scrimmage 14 to 0. at Pearl Cohn, which had a good decent crowd. it is good to see the community is starting to grow with the program

Pearl Cohn Spring Notebook Going into the spring Pearl Cohn biggest issue was of course the Quarterback position. Replacing SEC quarterback Deaunte Mason. With the wide recievers gone. Going into last Friday scrimmage with Antioch the firebirds had many questions needed to be answered. Quarterbacks? All of them are freshmen and all have good solid arms. They have a scrambler and a pocket passer. The problem is the snap and handing off the ball, but lets remember these are freshman and will have to grow in time. Wide Recievers? The wide outs are tall as uasually with the firebirds. but these are young wide recievers as well. the have great hieght and good speed. The problem is they are not familer with the offense and they need to work on there catching Running backs? Most of the scores will come from this position. The most exerpecnice comes from this position. Led by James Mclauraen who scored a touchdown in friday scrimmage. The problem is the handoff from the quarterback. Defense? The firebirds defense looks good. From the d-line to the secondary. But what was most impressive was the fact that the line backers looks better than last year which is kinda of scary considering who was on last year team. The D line got off the line fast and strong against Antioch. The secondary force four take aways. Overall Pearl Cohn while looking great on defense has plenty of questions that need to be answered on onfense before they pack up and head to Memphis to open the season this fall. However i would not be suprise if they pull some off some upsets along the way. They should compete in a tough region that the Blue Devils of White House should win. the biggest region rival to the Firebirds SPRING GRADE B-

White House has one the best communities in the region. They come out and support they team, there school and there community. The blue devils maybe be pick to win region 4-3a next year. With most of their big games at home this season i like white house chances.

Wow i wonder if you know any of PC coaches players, or anybody that has to due with Pearl Cohn Football, you get on here and bash a team and a program. You say there intergity are terrible. Who are you to judge a program a player and a coach. I knew somebody would get on here and say something bad about those players going to college. You should congrat those guys for going to college and doing something with there life. What you got on here and wrote bashing the progam i want to see you get off your screen name and walk up to PC coaches office and say what you just said. On to the football side, yes Pearl Cohn has lost a lot of talent. but they are still the team everybody wants to beat. That so called bad coach (Mr. Toni Brunnette) will have to work hard in getting his team ready to compete. I dont think they will win the region with White House Looking pretty good. But they will make some noise in this region. but they will not drop all the way to the bottom.

Looking for gyms to play at on monday for sub state shouldnt be to hard. First start at Hunters Lane, for one they have the biggest gym in Metro and nice locker rooms, plus hunters lane loves to host tournmennt games and they do a good job with security, or try Ensworth they have maybe one of the best faculities in Nashville, or you could try using one of your district foes. Pearl Cohn has the biggest gym in the district, good condition locker rooms, and the parking problem wont be an issue becuase it is a parking lots sorunding the whole school. Plus Coach Wharton and Coach Maddux are good friends. Just throwing stuff out there to look at.

The region tournment everybody has been waiting for in the Greater Nashville area. Region 6aaa is upon us and the semis and finals will be held at one the biggest gyms in Nashville at Hunters Lane Stratford at Hillsboro C.H.S. at Maplewood Brentwood at Antioch Hunters Lane at Franklin

SEMIFINALS GAME AT MARTIN LUTHER KING NO. 2 DAVID LIBSCOMB VS NO. 3 FRA This game should be a great game these two teams have split regular season meetngs, and in great fashion. The key for both teams is to get both of there shooters open looks. Shawn Kenndy was held to ony two points in last night win over MLK. If FRA can get him going it will be a big boost. The game is scheldule to start at 5:30. NO. 1 CPA VS. NO. 4 PEARL COHN Both of these teams won there first round games by the excat same score. 73-55 cpa ov eh, 73-55 pc over hfa. CPA against Pearl Cohn in the regular season games has jump out to a first quarter lead then lose it in the second and third and regain the lead and keep it in the fourth. However Pearl Cohn has playing some great ball lately. Even though CPA is undefeated in district and in side state borders. The Lions have thrown that all behind now and looks to compete for a state tittle. Now the Firebirds last year had a taste, going on a long run before losing to Liberty Tech in the Sub state round. The Firebirds knows what they have to and it starts tonight with a tough game against CPA tonight.

NO. 1 EZELL HARDING VS. NO. 4 HUME FOGG In the first semifinal matchup Ezell Harding looks to put away the Knights of hume fogg. Ezell Harding has sweep the Hume Fogg in the regular season matchup. The Lady Knights watch there boys lose last night at Pearl Cohn in a runaway. Said one of the girls on the team "we can not let the opponent get away from us in a runaway. We have to play hard". The Knights are led with three freshmans and should be solid in the future, but right now it Ezell time. The Knights will play tough but Ezell should pull away in the fourth NO. 3 CPA VS. NO. 7 EAST LIT In a matchup between the hottest team and the most suprising team. The game between both teams which are the only two teams that beat Ezell Harding in district play. For the Lions who have won eight straight and beat Pearl Cohn in overtime to advance to get to the semis. East Lit has beaten both Daivd Libscomb and Ezell Harding. The lady eagles know if they win tonight they will host a first round game in the regions. However the Lions look to change all that, They sweep East Lit in the regular season. This should make for an exicting game which starts at four.

Alot of poeple have this game on upset alert, However I dont think that is going to happen. The thing is the Knights are soft inside and the Firebirds are a very phyiscal team. Now drop to seven teams it could of been were the top seed gets a quarterfinal bye and already in the regions. however not the case you have a play-in game just to make the quarter finals. Kind of weird you have to win two games to make it to the regions but this tournment is normally exciting to watch
