  1. First of all I mean no disrespect to East Tn Teams since I too once played ball in East Tn. My comment is concerning East TN teams being ranking #1 or 2 in the state. For years east tn has won many state championships in football by all classifications. However, how many east tn teams have won state titles in boys basketball other than single A teams in say the last 10 years? Heck, go back 20 years. I don't have the answer, but the only state championship team from east tn I can remember was Science Hill back in the mid 90's. I think Bradley Central may have made it to the championship game recently, but lost to White Station. Bradley was for real and have the players playing in college to show for it. Any team that can win the Arby's is really good. It seems like every year an east tn team gets ranked extremely high then tanks in the tourney primarily because of the difference in talent level. Once again, I know there have been single A state champions, so please don't list those. I know Brainerd and Howard used to be state tourney participants on a regular basis, but I think there presence has even been minimal over the last several years. Even though Pigeon Forge is ranked #2 in AA and Greeneville is ranked #1 AAA, both are at 25th or below in the Maxprep rankings.
  2. Science Hill just isn't what it used to be.
  3. McMinn Central has been the best team in District 5AA for the past 2 decades. Back in the day Sweetwater, Madisonville (now Sequoyah) and Meigs had decent teams, but the talent level has fallen off severly at those schools. McMinn Central is the only school that continues to have decent players every year. For that matter, all of East Tennessee seems to be down. I can remember back in the early 90's when McMinn Central was ranked #7 in the state in AA, McMinn was ranked #2 in AAA, Madisonville was #2 in AA. Bradley Central was good and Cleveland was also very good if not ranked. That was all in the same year. That area will never see basketball that good again. Bradley Central has certainly had some good teams has well as McMinn Central over the years, but as far as talent across the board from several schools, it probably won't happen again. With McMinn Central's current team, they may very well run the table against limited competition, however you put that same team back in the early 90's when the area had some basketball, then you could almost guarantee at least 4 to 6 losses.
  4. I heard he was leaving Tusculum, enrolling at Northeast Community College for teh Fall semester then transfering to Milligan to play baseball.
  5. Just curious, when was the last time McMinn played for a state championship in football? When was the last time McMinn went to the state tournament in anything other than women's basketball and soccer. At least Central has made it to the clinic bowl once. And for basketball, McMinn is terrible and everyone knows it. McMinn doesn't take pride in that sport for some reason. Both of Centrals basketball teams have become regulars in Murfreesboro.
  6. McMinn has always dominated McMinn Central in football. I think Central has only won once in the last 10 or 15 years. Of course McMinn has double the kids to choose from. McMinn seems to have decent athletes every year, but not enough to beat the OR's or DB's. The big question I have is if McMinn has more athletes then why does Central own McMinn in basketball. It seems rare for McMinn to beat Central in basketball and I know some of those kids playing basketball at Central have to be labeled in the athlete category. Central also plays with and sometimes beats McMinn in baseball. So is it the athletes or just the lack of big kids on either side of the ball for Central.
  7. What has happened to McMinn Central? I think it was back in 1995 or 96 they played for the state championship and now they are 2 and 29 over the past few seasons. Are kids not coming out for the team or what. Central has traditionally had good athletes in the past. Their basketball and baseball teams seem to do well year in and year out. Just curious. Coach Williams seems to be a very good coach. Any inside info would be appreciated.
  8. Was just wondering why the A and AA teams all bring student sections and the arena feels electric. Then the AAA games start and there are no student sections cheering on their teams. It seems as if the crowd gets smaller and the noise level drops tremendously. It would seem the other way around considering AAA teams have more students etc..
  9. i do know that most mid-major d1 teams in the state wanted brooke, however she wanted to stay close to home. this is a great find for CN.
  10. Not the first time this has happened. Coach Green used to do it as well.
  11. the barber shop pitino is referring to is in augusta. just a block away from the master's. sometimes guys just like to get together with other guys whether it be playing golf or getting a haircut.
  12. My high school didn't have soccer when I was there and I didn't see my first live soccer match until I went to college in 92. My first impression was what a stupid sport and my impression hasn't changed much since. All these guys kicking a ball around a 120 yard field hoping to kick it into a goal maybe once or twice a game. How boring. I guess I agree with one of the previous posts that stated if it weren't for soccer we wouldn't have FG kickers. Soccer needs to find there own regualation field or get rid of the sport.
  13. CoachSH are you interested in the job? I thought you were moving into your mythical office at King College. Not sure where I heard that, but if it is true(you going to King) then who is leaving because they are overstaffed as it is.
  14. Where's Arty? I was way off on predicting this one. I predicted that WS would beat DB by 25+. Is it true that WS didn't have a player play more than 15 minutes. Sounded like true domination from a west tn team. Don't worry though DB, you'll get your 20+ wins again next year when you play all those weak northeast tn teams.
  15. cman, your absolutely right. I think David Crockett would have about as much of a chance against WS as DB.
  16. Opperman, great post. Everybody, even people in east TN know what a hotbed Memphis is in basketball. If you can go all year with just 2 losses while playing in Memphis, then you must be darn good. That's the difference between the west and the east. DB did beat SH and Greeneville, but to lose to David Crockett is crazy. I understand that you have off nights and play down to your competition, but getting beat by Crockett, come on. I'm sure DB will play hard, but WS will still win by 15+.
  17. Elizabethton has the same problem as Dobyns-Bennett. They play in a weak basketball area. Science Hill is the only program to brag about in Northeast TN. Even though Science Hill has to play against some of these weaker opponents, they generally do well when they make it to the state tourney. Elizabethton has the size to do well in the state tourney, but the lack of experience against quality opponents will bite them in the rear. I think it would be cool it Elizabethton won against Ridgeway, but unfortunately they will probably lose by 30.
  18. Arty, what's up? Congrats on DB making it to the state. You said it all along that DB was going to the state. I said it all along that DB probably wouldn't make it to the state, but if they did it would be one and done. Well they proved me wrong and made it to the state, but unfortunately DB drew WS. Does anyone out there think that a team from Northeast TN that got beat by David Crockett is going to have enough firepower to beat a team like WS. I can guarantee you that WS didn't get beat by a team like David Crockett. Another key is that WS plays tough competition night in and night out. DB plays a legit team here and there. Bradley Central might be WS best competition. Arty, I will eat crow if I'm wrong, but I want have to worry about that.
  19. I thought Big Jordan was a 7'2 transfer from the Ukraine.
  20. Science Hill has won 10 straight regular season titles. Seems to me they're the best team year in and year out. Arty said that Science Hill was awful this year. Well that awful team won the Big Seven once again and they also beat DB once this year. This is suppose to be one of DB's better teams and a rebuilding year for the toppers. What does that tell you?
  21. If DB can't win on the road at Crockett then they certainly can't win a game in murfreesboro, if they make it that far.
  22. why is coacht coming to the DB game. I believe I would attend the Bradley, Cleveland game.
  23. SH by 25. Nice little warm up before the district tourney.
