  1. It's not yet raining here in Knox Vegas. It'd be nice to have one of those turf fields over at CAK. You could just play on through despite the rain. Something tells me that'll be in the works in the near future.
  2. To borrow from and with apologies to the irascible WacoJaco, you are 100% correct!
  3. Some interesting information in this article about the vote yesterday, including a quote from B. Childress: http://www.knoxnews....-class-playoff/
  4. Actually, there is a nexus: intense rivalries and shorter traveling distances enhance revenue for the schools as well.
  5. Now that we know the TSSAA has voted to stay with six classifications, what happens to OR next year? Does OR stay 6A or do they move to 5A based on numbers? I would think it would make a difference having an extra classification because there will be relatively fewer numbers in each classification as the schools are spread more thinly.
  6. Interesting, I hadn't heard that the HVA attendance had changed. What's the thinking about where he'll end up?
  7. Space is an enigma, but an interesting one in that his posts make you think. But I also agree with SS that he ain't in love with the Wildcats. Powell ought to have the talent to finish 2nd overall in the district, although HVA with Blance is a wildcard. It depends on if they have a decent line coming back.
  8. I know it's a big church. I've got friends whose kids from a few (mostly Knox County schools) attend there. But I'd say Grace Baptist likely attracts more from Oak Ridge and Clinton given their proximity as opposed to Anderson County's distance.
  9. I agree. And with the downsizing that's occurred with the plants in OR that school and even Clinton and Anderson County have been affected by that I'd say.
  10. To clarify, I didn't really mean to accuse Maryville and Alcoa of cheating. I think most of the kids who go to those schools from outside their zones do so on their own initiative because they're good and want to go where the coaching is top notch and they'll have a chance at a state title. And that jibes with your point about GQ's coaching ability (and Rankin's too for that matter). And you've got one who ranks right up there at the Ridge now IMO. With that said, they'll welcome all comers and I don't blame them, just as I don't blame Oak Ridge for that back in the day -- or now for that matter if they could have, for example, gotten C. Patrick, which doesn't look as though it will happen. Or Anderson County if it has happened with them in the past. Maryville fans mad about recruiting accusations? Say it ain't so! Of course, I'd say there's a distinct possibility that you and I will be getting flamed by some of their fans by early tomorrow morning, lol!
  11. No dog in the fight but I must disagree that there's much truth here. Kids go where they think they'll be treated better and if they're good where they'll get the most attention. What's wrong with that? Happens all the time with the Maryvilles and Alcoas and that's at least partially why, SS, your team hasn't been able to defeat the former in a while. Instead, looks a lot like hurt feelings and lashing out by CC. Also, Grace is a loooooong way from Anderson County High School so I'd be real surprised if a "lot" of AC folks attend church there.
  12. Hmmmmmm, well, from what I know about the district, Clinton would certainly be better if it could have kept several players that went to Grace and Anderson County. But would Clinton have been better than Anderson County? I'm not convinced. AC seems to have a pretty high caliber of coaches. Another team in the district -- Halls -- has suffered a lot of defections over the years and so can make the same argument. Grace's QB is a Halls kid. You just play with the hand you're dealt I suppose and it's the coaches' responsibility to find a way to get the players to achieve.
  13. I'm actually surprised at the large number of no votes. I thought I'd be alone in my opposition.
  14. I much prefer the six classification system. The old region framework was flawed too, probably more so than the current system. I like the chance to see teams from far away play each other very early in the playoffs. In the old system, in the first round the 4A and 5A teams from the tri-cities played a Morristown team, and the Knoxville area (that'll bring out some haters) teams played a team down the I-75 corridor, year in a year out -- always the same. The current system is much more vibrant. Don't be such sticks in the mud!
  15. I don't think SS realizes you're a Clinton fan.
  16. Which is why I was careful to phrase my inquiry thusly:
  17. But if the original poster's son had been at a public rather than a private school, then the 20 mile rule wouldn't apply, would it, if he intended to enroll in another public school? "Territory" is defined this way in the handbook: Territory – For a public school, the “territory†of the school is the geographic boundaries and bus routes of the area served by that school as established by the local board of education. For a system-wide public school, the “territory†of the school is the geographic boundaries of the school system. For a non-public school, the “territory†of the school is the area within a twenty (20) mile radius from the school. So it looks like the 20 mile rule applies only to private schools.
  18. I'm curious where Patrick will be this fall. Heard he might be transferring. Any truth to the rumor?
  19. From what I hear, things are looking pretty good in the cow pasture.
  20. I'd a thought OR would already be there with the rest of the district, including Powell whether or not coached by Lowe, jostling for position in the passengers' seats. I too wish Lowe the best. Just seems strange. Kinda like an Urban Meyer situation.
  21. Well, glad you published it cause I missed it in the Sentinel.
  22. HTV, where did you get the information for this list? I've looked on the TSSAA site and didn't see it there.
  23. Thanks for compiling and publishing that list. Powell had a boatload for sure. Good to see Mobley and McPhetridge getting their due. And nice to see OR's Normand on there as Co-defensive MVP. I might be wrong but I think he's just a junior. Did you go to the East-West game? If so, how did Jared Long of Halls look?
