  1. Here's a girl with great upside--good size and speed. She must have had a great summer. It will be fun to watch her at White Station this year.
  2. UT-Martin: Beth Hawn, 6'1" post, Forrest; Jaclissa Haislip, 6'0" forward, Murfreesboro Riverdale; Jasmine Newsome; 5'7" guard, Millington; Heather Butler, 5'5" guard, Gibson County; Heather Griffin, 5'10" forward, Gibson County; Matrieka Minter, 5'10" guard/forward. Bolivar Central; Perica Glenn, 6'0" post, Milan If I'm counting right, that's 7 recruits for UT Martin. They have 9 on their roster right now with no seniors. Aren't they limited to 15 players? How will that work?
  3. Congratulations to her. I have heard so much about how talented she is. I am wondering how this will affect the Millington girls--Jasmine Newsome and Latesa McLoughlin--seems like a lot of smaller guards on one squad. But a lot of good ones too!
  4. I like Southwind too--they were young and athletic and a little wild last year, but should be more gelled and focused this year under senior leader Kortni _________ (can't remember her last name).
  5. I remember bballextreme saying something like they will not go to nationals this year because they will attend an exposure event instead. If I'm not mistaken he is associated with the Memphis Elite. And as you mentioned the Flight teams often do not attend AAU Nationals although they play these events. But that still leaves my question--why do they even bother with it.
  6. What I wonder is this: many of you have stated that exposure meets your kids' needs better--getting in front of college coaches sooner/more and having a chance at getting her college education paid for. Understandable. But why do teams that are mostly exposure-oriented consistently play AAU substate and state events? After all, in the AAU system, the goal is to play these events, and advance to Nationals. Since in the upper age groups AAU Nationals is right up against the exposure events, many of you know in advance that your teams will not go to AAU Nationals because of choosing to go to the major exposure events. So why play in these AAU events? I notice in the AAU State tournament brackets for these upper age groups (15, 16U) there are several teams (Memphis Elite, various Flight teams) that are involved in their AAU State tournaments, yet even if they win, they will skip the event for the exposure tournament instead. Why stay involved with AAU at all?
  7. I've always wondered why Alisha Clark originally signed with Belmont instead of a school with a bigger basketball stage--does anyone know why? Belmont is a very good school, but not an exceptional basketball school...anyone have the story?
  8. Which Xavier? There is one in Ohio and one in New Orleans...
  9. For those of us back in Memphis cheering you all on for the Gold ball...which Memphis area team did you think gave your team the hardest time? You all beat everyone in this area, but just wondering which ones were a little harder than the rest...
  10. I know I asked this before, but no one replied...is Faulkner playing ball in college somewhere next year? I've seen her play several times and she is so focused--she can really take it to the basket, and shoot from the perimeter as well. Just wondering what her future holds....
  11. I really think Central can win it all. They are not perfect--but then, this is high school basketball, and you are going to have some lapses here and there, even by championship level teams. But they have so much balance--a legitimate post player, an excellent decision maker as a floor general, and the other 3 players can hurt you from the perimeter as well as driving the lane. That, combined with level-headed coaching and a bench who know their roles, seems to cover all the bases. Most other high level teams have a couple of strong players, but a weak link or two. Or a coach whose decision making gets clouded in the heat of the moment. I haven't seen all the other teams in the state tournament, but this team just seems to have all the pieces--something that rarely comes along in high school basketball. While no one is unbeatable, I think any team who plays them will have to bring their A+ game for all 4 quarters to pull out the win. Good luck to all who are still playing--that in itself is an accomplishment.
  12. Are any of these talented young ladies going to play college ball next year?
  13. Has Morgan Faulkner signed with anyone to play basketball next year? She is a scoring machine and long and athletic, I would guess there are several schools interested if she has not committed already.
  14. DU, looks like it was close... What is your coach's game plan for dealing with Central?
