  1. I'm not so sure you ran into a buzz saw as much as you guys were ice cold from the three against Humbolt. I still believe if you guys would have shot the three the way you did against Hampton then you would have had a good shot at winning state in 06. You guys hit 16 threes against Hampton that year. Unbelievable. That was the loudest high school game I have ever witnessed. Wonderful atmosphere for a ballgame. oh well, the past is the past. How does this Cosby team stack up to your 06 team?
  2. Hampton won the state championship in 1960 (when there wasn't any classifications). We also were state runner-up in 1981, and 1983. Granted, Hughes and Ward were not alive then. We did make the state semi-finals in AA in 1992 plus several state quarter final appearances. Coach White has over 725 wins in his career, so I believe Hampton does have tradition in basketball. Anyway, did you play for the Cosby team that defeated Hampton in the sub-state four years ago? You guys could really shoot the rock! I was impressed with that team.
  3. ok, for some reason I feel like tomorrow's game against Happy Valley could be a trap game. Hampton is coming off an emotional win against Cloudland and HV is having a down year. Lets not take them lightly. It would make Happy Valley's season if they could come into Vanhuss White gymnasium and beat the dogs. Lets stay focused and continue to play hard like it is your last game ever in a bulldog uniform. Expect Happy Valley's best tomorrow. GO BULLDOGS!
  4. Congratulations to both Hampton Girls and Boys Basketball teams on their wins tonight! Conference Champs! Now get ready for the post season. Great Job! Also, congrats to both Cloudland teams. You guys have nothing to hang your heads about. Class programs. 110% effort given. Good luck in the post season.
  5. great post! Hampton also has several players back from that state semi-final team in 2009. Coach Tolley played several sophomores that year who are now seniors. Plus, Hampton played Elizabethton as close as anyone else has this year the last time they played (I believe they stayed within 9 points) Hampton is not overrated, if anything they are underrated because they have defeated North Greene twice who is currently ranked 6th. GO DOGS!
  6. I have not seen the mentioned teams play this year. However, last year I did see Clarksville Academy and CSAS play in Murfreesboro. Clarksville won the state last year and they have the two Smith boys back (both are Division 1 players, tall and athletic). CSAS was an extremely disciplined and fundamentally sound team, fun team to watch. I have also watched many state tournaments in the past since the year Unaka won the state in 2004. Humbolt and Middleton are always very athletic and like to press you the entire game, just like the great Union City teams of previous years. All the mentioned teams have deep benches and sub a lot in order to wear the other team down. With Hampton being a senior loaded team that has great ball handlers and with their experience playing similar teams in the Arby's classic, I think they would represent Region 1 well. Turn overs and our shooting percentage would play huge factors. Single A is not like Double A were Region 1 teams don't have a chance anymore. I guess to answer your question, yes the teams you see in Murfreesboro are very good but as long as we handle the pressure defense, rebound well, and of course shoot well, we can compete. Again, good luck to the Dogs!
  7. Playing for District and Regional titles should be all the motivation these boys need. I know the old saying that it is difficult to beat a team three or four times in a season, however, if Hampton or Cloudland cannot beat UH, Unaka, or North Greene, then they would not be able to defeat teams like Humbolt, Middleton, Clarksville Academy, CSAS that they would see in Murfreesboro. With that being said, Hampton seems to be playing with a chip on their shoulder this year after their disappointing defeat in last year's substate game. I like the focus the team has this year. Pujo, I also like your gettrrrdunnn slogan. The season is winding down. Now is the time for the Dogs to step on the gas!! Pour it on boys!
  8. Yes North Greene is a good ballclub, however, I wouldn't count out Cloudland or Hampton who are both currently tied with North Greene with one loss in the conference. It wouldn't surprise me if two of these three teams make it to the Boro. North Greene does not have an automatic to the State. One of these three teams will not make it out of the Regional. Good luck to all three teams and if any make the state, I know they would represent Region 1 well!
  9. I know that Hampton is having a fantastic season so far, however, now is the time to not get complacent. Strive to improve every day in practice. Don't forget the basics. Continue to work on the little things like ball handling, passing, shooting, and most importantly staying in shape. You can do all these "little" things on your own too. The next few months will be over before you know it. For the rest of the season, play every minute like it is your last. Good luck to the Dawgs!
  10. Good post Coach Shelton. Thank goodness conference titles and championships are not won on this site. I agree with everything you said except that you are not the worst in the conference. I expect you guys to compete like you do every year. Work hard in the off season. Hopefully somebody can challenge Unaka. They have definately set the bar high. We lost our best pitcher in Puckett, and three other seniors. We will be young and will have to work hard to compete. Looking forward to another fun season.
  11. Congratulations Unaka and North Greene on making the regional finals! Good luck in the substate. I hope both teams make it to murfreesboro.
  12. Thank you. Yes, last night was tough. You could tell that the loss especially hurt the seniors. They wanted to go to the regional. That has been their goal all year and they were so close. Again, my hat is off to their effort in trying to achieve that goal. We lose six seniors (D J Puckett, J D Scalf, Cody Julian, Josh Lipford, and Trey and Troy Rachall) of which four were starters, and DJ and JD were the #1 and #2 pitchers, so they will be difficult to replace, however, that is what the off-season is for.
  13. What a great Baseball game! Congratulations NG Huskies on a fantastic 7th inning rally to advance into regional play. You guys deserved to win. I wish y'all luck in the regional along with Unaka. I hope to see both teams battle for the regional title. To all the Bulldog players... you have nothing to hang your heads over. All season long you have continued to improve and battled to the very end. The work ethic you guys have put in these season was exceptional. That is all anyone can ask. I am proud of each and everyone of you. To the seniors.... thanks for the memories. You guys have left something to build on. To the underclassmen, play in the summer leagues and continue to strive to get better. Let's try to build on this season.
  14. Good win Coach. It sounds like you guys hit the ball well yesterday. Hampton defeated Cloudland yesterday 18-0 to finish the season in 3rd place. If the District game between NG and Hampton is like the first two games of the season against one another, it should be another great game.
  15. I agree with you Coach. I was actually just throwing those scenarios in to try to prove a point that it is too early to tell how the standings will fall. Plus I was tired of typing any more scenarios lol.
  16. There are a few scenarios to the 2-4 seeding. Today's game between UH and North Greene will determine a lot about the seedings. Senario 1--North Greene defeats UH today and Hampton defeats Cloudland on Tuesday, then creekerballer's seeding predictions will be correct. Senario 2-- UH defeats NG and Hampton defeats Cloudland, then 2-4 will have identical conference records of 4-4 and then it would go to a coin flip to determine seedings. Senario 3-- UH defeats NG and Hampton loses to Cloudland, then Hampton would be fourth seed. Senario 4-- NG defeats UH and Hampton loses to Cloudland, then UH and Hampton would be in a coin flip for the 3rd seed with identical 3-5 records. All of this is starting to hurt my head lol... Good luck to all teams for the rest of the season and in the District Tournament.
  17. yes, Hampton and North Greene have split. Hampton has also split with University High (Hampton lost to UH on Monday 7-6 and defeated UH yesterday 6-0) I believe the standings now are... Unaka 4-0 North Greene 3-2 Hampton 3-3 UH 1-3 Cloudland 0-3 spots 2-4 are still up for grabs. good luck to all teams.
  18. Thanks Sportsfan. Yes, I have always been a bulldog fan and was taught to give credit when credit is due and not make excuses. We were scheduled to play Unaka on tuesday but that game has been rescheduled for Friday at 3 at Unaka due to the rain/snow that is predicted for tonight and tomorrow. The UH versus NG game on thursday should be a great game. If you watch it, I would appreciate your take on the game.
  19. Yes Hampton is struggling at the plate, however, it is not because of a lack of effort. I can tell you this, Hampton is working extremely hard in practice to get better at hitting. Hopefully they will turn it around before the tournament gets here. Congrats to North Greene on the victory. The game went 9 innings and it was a shame that someone had to lose. Hampton actually had a 6 to 5 lead in the bottom of the seventh with 1 out and nobody on base but just couldn't hold on. North Greene earned the tying run with base hits, and scored the winning run in the bottom of the 9th. Right now the conference standings are Unaka 3-0, Hampton 2-1, North Greene 2-2, University High i think is 0-1 and Cloudland is 0-3. It will be interesting to see how this conference ends up during the stretch run before the district tournament. Again, congrats to North Greene on winning a heck of a ballgame.
  20. I wouldn't doubt that at all. Good Post. Coach Lunsford has influenced countless athletes in a positive manner. What I like about Coach Lunsford is even though he can be tough as nails, you still know that he cares for you and wants you to succeed. He expects your best effort and gives praise when he gets your best effort. He is one of those coaches whom I believe gets the most out of the majority of his players.
  21. I hope that Coach Lunsford stays at Hampton. He is a great coach and a good man. I respect him a lot.
  22. and Tennessee High is still in the playoffs while Elizabethton is sitting at the house.
  23. wow. I sense a little jealousy here. Are you upset because Elizabethton's program hasn't turned around in recent years as predicted?
  24. I agree with you deputydog 100% on this one. Elizabethton would never consider playing Hampton from 2005-2007 and they also would never consider playing Cloudland in 2000-2002. Now that both teams are a little down from recent years they want to play us. I guess Elizabethton is tired of the 500 seasons. /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" />
  25. That would be a great idea. I hope the linemen use this experience to make themselves better and stronger. I think they will. These are good boys.
