  1. Just to correct you on one thing. Christian Simpson did not wrestle in the match. Griffin Habacker wrestled @ 120 vs Sesnan.
  2. What team pulled out? Creating the whole that Cleveland JV is now filling
  3. Best of luck to all the young men from TN choosing to compete in National Preps this weekend. There are 13 warriors going to do battle up at Lehigh University. Several of them are highly ranked going in. Brackets are out on FloArena. Baylor and Father Ryan sending 5 each, McCallie sending 2 and MBA sending 1. This is a next level event where state champs become national champs. This tournament is full of future D1 All Americans and all who choose to compete here deserve our respect. Get after it boys, show the country what TN wrestling is all about.
  4. Can someone please indicate which teams from Middle were selected to wrestle in the West Sectional? Also what are the dates and locations for these sectionals? Straight from the handbook....... V. STATE TOURNAMENT (Division II) A. Three teams from the Middle Tennessee area shall be selected to compete in the West Tennessee Sectional tournament. The teams selected to compete shall be determined by the Division II schools no later than September 25, 2014. If no decision is reached by the schools by the September 25th deadline, the three schools shall be determined by TSSAA. The remaining teams from the Middle Tennessee area not selected to go to the West Tennessee Sectional Tournament shall compete in the East Tennessee Sectional Tournament. Four individuals from each Sectional Tournament shall advance to the Division II State Wrestling Tournament. The #1 wrestlers will wrestle the #4 wrestlers and the #2 wrestlers will wrestle the #3 wrestlers in the first round of the state tournament.
  5. Mr. West, can you post the pools when they become available?
  6. Direct from the TSSAA website Celebration of Finalists/Presentation of Medalists We will be starting a new tradition with the 2014 tournament. We are planning an elaborate entry and introduction for the individuals who qualify for the finals of the Division I AAA, A-AA and Division II Tournaments on Saturday ni ght. If you have wrestlers that qualify for the finals you will need to have them arrive at the arena no later than 4:00 on Saturday night to prepare for this event. This celebration will replace the Parade of Champions. Winners of semifinal matches will be taken to a designated area on the arena floor for a picture. This will be used to build graphics for the big screens during the finals. It is very important that we get pictures of all semifinal winners. We will have someone on each semifinal mat to direct the winners to the right location after the match.
  7. I went through the D2 brackets and found 6 forfeits. A double FF @113 in the wrestle in match. 1 FF @ 120; 1 FF @ 145 and 2 FF on the same side of the bracket @ 152. Can anyone let us know the details/causes of these? Skin problems left over from state duals? Weight issues due to no school/weather?
  8. Took me a little while to find it but this is my post from after state in 2010 which covers many of the same issues we are all discussing here with some possible solutions. Only 1 of these issues has been resolved; double elimination was added. Not really any of the other issues have improved or changed, perhaps the "elaborate entry" they have planned for this year will improve things, but without platforms for the mats and much improved lighting, we are still years away from what these wrestlers deserve for all their hard work and dedication to the greatest sport. Posted 22 February 2010 - 08:59 AM I must first say that everyone involved in holding this tournament did an incredible job being their first year for such an event. And as always there are going to be some things that can improve the experience for all, wrestlers as well as fans. I agree with KingGreene that the lighting was horrible, I and many others I spoke to had a headache from our eyes being strained all weekend. I described it as perpetual dusk in there. This is a simple fix for the venue that would improve all the events they hold there. The layout of the mats could be vastly improved. Platforms could be implented to raise the mats off the dirt floor. These do not have to be very high, just a good flat surface. More importantly the mats could be moved and layed out closer to the seats, the scorers tables and clocks could be moved to the center creating a center aisleway for on deck wrestlers and no blocked views of the mats or clocks. As fans we could then be closer to the action, thus making it easier for the refs to hear us. As far as room, there was plenty of room and empty mats to hold double elimination. Friday afternoon, it was a ghost town over on the DI side. 4 empty mats just begging to have an extra round of consolations wrestled on them. Easily enough time for double elimination. While I would have liked for the finals mats to be closer together to watch both divisions, I am sure they split them to create the maximum amount of seating for each mat. Surrounded on three sides instead of only two. They could improve on this in a couple of ways, wrestle all matches on one mat, alternating DI then DII at each weight class. They could just start an hour earlier. Or TSSAA could do away with the divisions and we could have just one mat and one true state champion. This is an individual sport and classifications/divisions have no business in this sport. Lastly, the TSSAA has missed the boat on this entirely. This is such a marketing hot spot for many companies. You could have people talk to many wrestling companies such as Dollamur mats and we could have wall to wall mats, with room for warming up. Scoreboard companies that would die at a chance to have their scoreboards in a marquee event. Just a couple of many opportunities that were missed and can be improved upon.
  9. Now that tssaa has brought a regional qualifier to DII, I believe that presents a solution to have one combined DI/DII individual state championship. Top 4 placers from 10 regions, 8-AAA and 2-DIIAA, qualify into a 40 man bracket. 4th place regional finishers are placed in the pigtail matches and wrestle into the 32 man seeded bracket. Preliminary round wrestle in matches would add very minimal time to the overall tournament. This format would be highly competitive in every round and attendance would be incredible for all sessions and break records for semi finals and finals.
  10. Brackets were just revised on track and now show exactly how the seeds should be drawn up as I stated in my previous post According to seeding per regular season dual results, the bracket should come together like this: TOP Ryan vs BA MBA vs St. Ben BOTTOM Bros vs McCallie Briarcrest vs Baylor
  11. According to seeding per regular season dual results, the bracket should come together like this: TOP Ryan vs BA MBA vs St. Ben BOTTOM Bros vs McCallie Briarcrest vs Baylor
  12. DI-AAA Match 1 - Cleveland vs Beech Match 2 - Halls vs Bartlett Match 3 - Science Hill vs Maryville Match 4 - Cookeville vs Ravenwood Match 5 - Heritage vs Soddy Match 6 - Collierville vs Brentwood Match 7 - Blackman vs Bearden Match 8 - Wilson Central vs Jefferson Co.
  13. I hope that Track has it wrong for DII as It shows Match 1 - Bros vs BA Match 2 - MBA vs St Ben Match 3 - Baylor vs McCallie Match 4 - Ryan vs Briarcrest If this holds true, that mean that Ryan will face the winner of Baylor/McCallie in the semis? Certainly this has to be incorrect???
  14. The actual brackets are not up yet, but If you go to the results page on track, it shows the first round duals for D1A-AA and DII. Most interesting thing is that Baylor and Mccallie face each other 1st round. Again this is according to trackwrestling
  15. The strongest argument has been talked about here before and that is for T$$AA to make all individual sports, 1 class. While this would be ideal, we all know unfortunately this will never happen, but there is a strong movement to make it similar to other states that use enrollment #’s and multipliers to create classes. Below is how Illinois constructs their State wrestling series, with 3 classes. (All their private schools use mulitpliers) Proposal for TN would be 2 classes A and AA(small schools / Large schools&private schools) The biggest change TN would see would be how the dual state is set up. Each region tournament is set up as an individual tournament with team pts scoring as normal. The highest scoring team wins the region and moves on to dual team sectionals. Top 3 Individuals move on to individual sectionals. Advancement (Individuals) Regional to Sectional: First, second and third place winners from each weight class advance in all classes. Sectional to State Final Classes 1A, 2A and Class 3A: First, second, third and fourth place finishers from each weight class in each sectional. Advancement (Teams) The team scoring the most points at the Individual Regional will advance to the Team Sectional at sites determined by the IHSA. Dual Team Tournament Four (4) teams will compete in each of four Sectionals in each class. There will be no sectional champion. Only the semifinals will be wrestled. Two teams from each Sectional qualify for the State Eight (8) teams shall compete in each of the three (3) classes. A random draw determines the sectional pairings and the State Final. Travel restrictions(dark ages) Travel for TN high school teams during the season is a joke. There have been and will be several teams that could compete and finish in top 15 of some tournaments, but most will never realize those accomplishments because of the over restrictive policies of the T$$AA. Remove these restrictions and I would love to see how well our teams could compete at tournaments like Cheesehead, the Clash, The Ironman, Dvorak, etc. COmpeteing in these tournaments with other nationally ranked teams is the only way TN teams will consistently break into the Fab50 or top 25. T$$AA has to stop holding this state back and quit depriving these young men of better future and get them noticed by NCAA wrestling coaches looking for the best.
  16. Mass at noon, weigh in at 1pm wrestling begins at 2. Opportunity for a great Homily before this battle.
  17. Once again the TSSAA has completely mangled this sport. This is the state dual tournament and a "BYE" should never be even thought of. The attitude/concept of everyone deserves a medal is the death knell for this sport. This is wrestling not T-ball. I won't even begin to discuss how the BYE was placed in the bracket. C'mon TSSAA, here's your sign. All individual sports, regardless of school size should be 1 class, period.
  18. He is the AD at a private school outside of Cleveland, OH.
  19. This is only a guess, but maybe the #'s are down this year due to Jeff Walrich, the former HC for Holy Innocents left over the summer to bigger and better things. Just thinking the connections were lost with some of the schools not participating this year. Still a very tough tournament with schools from multiple states and more than several studs in most weight classes.

  21. Duals are 1/4 and Individual Tourney begins 1/5. What teams are slated to be there?
  22. Mr. Branton, I just need some clarification on the correct date for the Mocs vs Iowa match please. As Iowa has it on their schedule for Sat. Nov 17th Which date is correct?
  23. oldlion, You set the bar very high, you and your son have always lead by example. I am a better person for having ever met you and Cole, I am proud to call you my friends. Our sons will always have these years to look back on and be extremely proud of what they accomplished. It has been a great run!
  24. In an effort to bring fairness to light, I would please have everyone that has commented on this thread to consider the other side. The posters on here that have referenced the NFHS document on "STALLING", have neglected to reference these points from the neutral position. Within some point in the first 30 to 45 seconds, each wrestler must make an honest attempt to contact or secure a takedown. ï¶ Getting back to our formula; an honest attempt and aggressive wrestling includes “Initiating†a move and “Follow up†to secure a takedown ï¶ Who is the aggressor and initiating the action? Moseley  Circling - Mosely  Changing levels & direction - Moseley  Attempting to penetrate - Moseley  Creating angles, set ups and scoring opportunities - Moseley ï¶ Is not attempting to secure a takedown. - Berz ï¶ Blocking with the arms, forearms or head - Berz ï¶ Counter wrestling - Berz  Use of maneuvers that are used to prevent action - Berz Any and all of the above in bold perfectly describe sprawling and hipping into an opponent, grabbing an ankle and hanging on not attempting to secure a takedown. Also never attempting to penetrate on a shot or secure a takedown. Did this wrestler initiate any action during the match? It was all counter wrestling which in this case was a sprawl, never attempting to improve position. How was this called stalling earlier in the match and then subsequently only a stalemate? McC wrestler should have been hit with stalling a second time at the very least, if you as the referee are going to make that so called "gutsy" call, hit both wrestlers for stalling at the same time. If you must make the call, call it fairly. both ways. regardless of how much time is left on the clock. Again per the NFHS document, Moseley was the aggressor the entire match, initiating all the action, changing levels & direction, attempting to penetrate and create scoring opportunities. Many of you using this document as reference seem to have conveniently left out all these key elements and rewarding the wreslter that by definition of this document was doing more of the stalling in this match. I would like the ref in this match to answer this question honestly.... Watch the match again or just recall on your memory and sincerely say which wrestler was working harder to win that match? The answer is very simple.
  25. trickk, I hear your points, but the overall cost would have to be paired down by the major corp sponsors footing the majority of the cost for venue. There is no reason why this has to be a 3 day tournament, I have never been to a regular season tournament with a 32 person bracket that needed a 3rd day to complete. But all this is a moot point, the TSSAA will never move out of the Ag/Expo, in their minds, they could never do better than FREE. The point of my post was for those who love wrestling in TN to somehow band together(also might not ever happen) and loudly voice their opinions and wishes to the powers that be to initiate a change of venue. Again, it is all about the experience for the kids. and if it is to remain at the Ag/Expo then it is our responsibility to improve the experience. As was stated in a thread last year, bring in platforms(like NCAA's), bring in lighting, etc, this is Music City USA, there are enormous resources for these type of things.
