  1. I think only one of those teams are "one of the best teams in 6A" and they won it all in 5A last year. MJ is not there yet. LOVE TO HEAR HOW IT WENT AS WELL. ANY COMMENTS????
  2. FYI..... we are talking about BLACKMAN not Smyrna.... thanks! On Wednesday BLACKMAN will be having "Meet the Blaze" after the scrimmage. I'm trying to get confirmation on the time of the scrimmage and time on the cook out. Will post as soon as I know for sure. Oh so you must mean at next Friday......that wasn't clear
  3. Alright it that time again. It’s time to get the pads cracking and start talking about the important things again, FOOTBALL. I was at the late afternoon session yesterday and the one thing that stood out to me was the numbers out this year. I counted 115 out there. I’m pretty sure the freshmen were there too but never the less, that a lot of kids. I also noticed they seemed very much focused on the direction the staff was giving them. Lastly, I SAW ATHLITES. They looked very athletic and VERY FAST!!! I hope to make it up to Gallatin tonight to see the scrimmage but I don’t know. I hope if I don’t make it someone will post what they saw. I think this will be a very interesting year for the Bulldogs. Some young kids that have a lot of playing experience are now the leaders of this team as Jr’s. I feel this year, we could see some great things out of these Bulldogs. However, this is a strong Region with 3 of the last 4 state champs in it. Riverdale should be strong and Blackman could come up and bite some teams as well. Also, Please don’t forget what Siegel did to Smyrna week 1 last year. The out of Region games are not joke either; not sure what Beech has but Brentwood, Centennial, Ensworth and Ravenwood. That’s pretty tough. If you look at that schedule objectively, If Smyrna comes out of it 8-2 or 9-1, that very impressive. I don’t think you will find a more difficult schedule in the state. But that can be debated later. Love to hear some more thought. Let’s get the talk going. It’s that time again. Bulldog86 Prepare like Champions Practice like Champions Play like Champions Act like Champions The rest will take care of itself.
  4. FYI......The Scrimmage is tonight Smyrna @ Gallatin and it's at 4:30. Blackman has two scrimmages next week: 1. Wednesday I believe at 4pm, at home, against BGA 2. Friday at 4pm at home against Gallatin Have no idea about any specific player don't know their names yet, but I know all coaches are pleased with how three-a-days are going this week, would be happier if it wasn't raining all afternoon.
  5. I saw Lavergne this spring and they have some talent. Some very fast and athletic kids. The Size is not very impressive but they have a left tackle that (I think) is going to be a JR that 6'6 290. Not great feet yet but he could be coached into a great one. Not sure how well they will be as a team. I think they are pretty young but so is everyone else in the region. If the Coach's can bring them together and use that talent right, they could be a team to put a scare in a few of the big Rutherford county teams. That’s a stretch though. Siegel.......who knows!!!!!! All I know is Smyrna will not be taking them lightly. After that first game last year, I’m sure Smyrna will be ready for the Stars. Scrimmages tonight. I can feel it...it's getting close......soon we be hearing the band and it will be for real. I love HS Football!!!!!
  6. got ya! To bad, good kid, good father, got to know him a little bit last year. He was put in a tough spot last year. I must say, Wilson did a heck of a job the last half of the season and think it was the right call on Coach Williams part. I too was calling for him to get some more snaps but Wilson just keep improving week after week and proved me wrong and I'm sure a few others. That??™s the thing about telling a kid they are the starter. The kids should always know that they are part of a team where no position is promised to anyone. You must win the job then more importantly KEEP the job. I never like hearing where a kid is given the false expectation that the job is his no matter what. It??™s not fair to the kid or the team. Performance and results should be the only factors in a coach??™s decisions. I'm not saying that's what happen here but it's not the first time I've heard something like this. As I hop off my soap box??¦??¦..Can anyone tell me if Woodard (QB) will be back fighting for the job?
  7. Not sure who's playing in the game but I do know that GA football is better then most as a whole. Take out the big 4 states of Cal. Florida, Texes and Ohio. GA and LA and Maybe Mississippi are right there with the best HS football in the county. But that another Debate: I will say GA wins it but it will be close. But Who knows>>>will be fun to watch.
  8. Just a heads up here, when you have good freshmen teams it??™s good, yes, but don't make the common mistake of assuming that will carry over into W's when they strap??™em up at the varsity level. Secondly, not to say LC freshmen are not/were not the real deal, cause I don't know but the Riverdale freshmen were pretty darn good the last few years as well as the Smyrna frosh teams (Lions Club Freshmen champs beating Riverdale) and LC will need to get past either of them or the winner of a very, very strong and tough region (that has the last 3 state championships) to get past before the talk about getting back to where you've been in the past starts back up. I think this championship streak can continue with the talent and coaching here in Rutherford County. Should be interesting to watch. CAN'T WAIT!!!! Is it football time yet ??? No! oh well, it will be here sooner then we think. But I wish ya??™ll luck and hope you enjoy your season.
  9. Are you talking about Freemen who was a freshmen last year? What about Woodard who was out last year and play 2 years ago when Sonny Gray was hurt aganst BA? He should be back this year as a SR right?
  10. I thank you for the update on the Bulldogs. Nice to see the D looked strong but I expected nothing less. How did the QB's look? And more important, the O-line? I would not think of Mr. Meadows as a "Dark Horse". He will be on everyone short list for a D1 player for the next 2 years. NO QUESTION!!!! Good to hear Mr. Brown is stepping up. They will need him to give Bryson a blow from time to time. GO DOGS!!!!
  11. I haven't heard anything about any of our Scrimmages yet this year. I'm pretty upset about that. It seems all we care about on here is what Shad is doing and the lost of a camera person. Bryson and Meadows were running track this year but I did not see them at the Sub- Sectional meet so I just assumed they joined the football team for Spring practice. (Priority is Football here in Smyrna). I will say this; they look like they have both been in the weight room. They look like men in the track uniforms, especially Mr. Meadows. WOW is his upper body stacked and his leg look like tree trunks. Yet he still runs like a deer. Saw him run the 100 and 200 at the District meet in Mt Juliet and he was a man amongst boys. He blew the field away. (Including Bryson).
  12. Don't mean to correct you but I will. Mr. Smith threw 54'7 in the shot and Mr. Hunter threw 51'00 in the Shot. Then in the Discus Smith threw 169'1 and Hunter threw 134'6. I thought the young men deserved to have correct marks posted. Good luck at state. It should be a good one. Look out for Mr. Wade at Brentwood to give Mr. Smith all he wants in the Discus. (Just a hunch.) I think Smith wins the shot unless he throws really badly. If he dose, there will be a few Brentwood boy waiting to pounce. Cant wait till Friday.
  13. Really? Do we really care if the Smyrna Camera person left to go with Shad????? Well I don't. I wish him well and I hope he and his family are happy but I want to hear more about Spring Ball. Stand outs, Scrimmages, you know things that matter. How can this thread be empty with spring ball talk? Let??™s get it started! Huh?
  14. Congrats go out to the Lavergne Discus throwers. They had 2 boys make it to the state meet next Friday. Deon Mcadoo palce 2nd and Lafonzo Betts placed 4th. Great year and hope they get PRs in the state meet. Nice job men!!!!!
  15. Lafonzo Betts broke the Lavergne School record last week at the District meet. The record was 139'0 and he threw 143'10. Also, that mark puts him in the Great Eight meet today qualifying 5th. He??™s showing great improvement and seems to be peaking at the right time. (Jr) Deon McAdoo came in third at the District meet with a 131??™4 and is an alternate in the great eight meet. Also A big "At a girl" goes out to Ciarra Britt winning the district meet and throwing a PR of 109'11. That also qualifies her (#6) in the great eight meet. She too has shown improvemet throughout the year and is getting good marks here late in the year. Pretty good showing for Lavergne in the discus in the great eight meet this year. Congrats!!!!
  16. They now have 3 throwers over 50.Wade (10th grade) went 50.1 in shot and 144.6 discus at the Doug Hall relay I do know that the other 2 throwers must have hit a wall and regressed. They went 44 and 41. That??™s a pretty big drop off but good for Wade. Let??™s hope he stays healthy and can trained hard for state and give it a run. He's got it in him but he's got to remember he's a soph. and he can't risk it if he's not ready. His dad is the throwers coach so I think he'll be smart about it. As far as the new throwers coach question>>>>>not that I know of.
  17. Went up to the meet at Austin Peay last weekend and I have to say the throwing event were run so poorly that with two flights of boys and two flights of girls in each event, it took them 5 hours to get threw them all. I??™ve been around throwing events for a long time and have never seen anything like it. But I digress. The meet itself was pretty good, had some good throwers there from 3 states. Ensworth had 2 kids throwing the Discus over 150. Cooper (JR) 155 and Settles (SR) 150 took 1st and 3rd. Frazier from Daviess County in Kentucky was 2nd with a 152. Lavergne??™s Betts and McAdoo came in 5th and 6th On the girls side; Battles from Pearl Cone marked a 115??™3 > Washington from Clarksville Northeast went 102??™3 and Britt from Lavergne went 97??™5 (1-2-3) In the shot it started and ended with Frazier from Daviess. He went 54 feet and his throws were not good for him. I watched him hit 57 and 58 feet in warm-ups, no problem. From what his coach told me, he has a marked a 58 '9 this year. He will be a WKU Hill Topper next year. Not much else more to speak of in the shot, the two Ensworth kids were around 45 and 43. Betts at Lavergne took 6th but had a bad, bad throwing day. He only went 41 feet or so and I??™ve seen him go 47. On the girls side; Battles From Pearl Cone, again, took 1st with a 37??™5> Curry from MLK took 2nd at 36??™6 > and Prince from not sure where took 3rd with 32??™6 On a side note: The Lavergne as a team took 2nd place in this meet. So my earlier question to another poster as to the strenth of Lavergne's team and his projection of them winning their district, I will now retract. They look pretty strong. See you in the ring
  18. Highland Games @ FRA and the Scott Hartman meet @ Brentwood. 2 of the BHS kids went over 50 in both the meets. The 10 grader is hurt but should be back this week to get some marks in before Districts. He should go over 53 if he's 100% over from injury.
  19. Do you really think that Lavergne Boys are that strong this year in their district/sub sectional? I think they were 3rd in the county meet behind Oakland and Riverdale. Oakland ran away with that meet. Lavergne was very strong in the throwing events, taking a 2nd and 3rd in the discus (Oakland 1st) and a 2nd and 4th in the shot (Oakland 1st-siegel 3rd) but they were pretty much erased by Oakland in the jumps and running events.
  20. You may need to be over 50 feet this year to make it to state if you??™re in the same region as Brentwood (In Kennwood). They (Brentwood HS) have 3 kids over 50 feet this year. One of them will go 53 or 54. (10 grade) That leaves 1 spot out there to fight for: Lebanon has a 48-49 footer Lavergne has a 46-47 footer Oakland has a 45-46 footer I haven't seen much more then that out there. Doesn??™t mean more good throwers aren??™t out there. Who know with the Track coverage in the area? I don't know what they have in the Mount Juliet, WC, Beech, Hendersonville, Gallatin areas. I did see Beech and Hendersonville early this year and Beech didn't have much and Hendersonville didn't have much in the shot but did have a 130 discus thrower. Not sure if 130 make it out in the discus, I'd say no but I guess thats another topic. I'm going to the invite up at Austin Peay this weekend. I let you know what I see.
  21. http://steelthrowers.com/ Check out the above site. He is a good man and knows how to teach young men and women to throw shot discus Hammer and so on. Check it out
  22. Steel Throwers Club Out Of Franklin is a good one. Jim Brown heads that up. Website was down for a bit but it should be back up soon.
  23. At the meet were Lavergne, Smyrna, Hendersonville, LHS and Eagleville. LHS had a shot putter (with no form at all) throw a 47 foot + throw......he did the old side shuffle and was all arm. Man if he had some coaching, he could be A 53/54 footer.......easy. HHS had a discus thrower over 130 and LaVergne had a Thrower (Alfonzo) throw a 140+ out of sector. (He could be one to watch come the end of the year.) Lavergne Girl's Thrower took 1st in both Shot and Discus......94 feet in the discus and not sure what the shot mark was but I??™m thinking it was around 34 feet. I'll do much better next post on getting names and posted marks.
  24. I have not seen 1 Smyrna fan offer congratulations to the Oakland Squad. For that I am sorry. I have been away for some time and I'd like to say "well done" to the Patriots. I feel the best team won the gold ball this year and for the Williamson county football fans who thought the Championship was won the night Franklin beat Brentwood; you can't deny that the best big school football is played in Rutherford County. Great job Oakland Patriots. Look forward to battling the Champs Next year. The Oakland/Smyrna match ups should be as good or better then this year.
  25. I want to congratulate the Oakland Players, Staff and Supporters. What a dominate performance in the 2nd half. I don't know the T.O.P but I think your Offence moved the ball and keep the clock moving, for most of the 2nd half. Great job! Good luck and let's keep the gold ball in the region. Go Pats!!!!
