  1. I was wrong. It happens to the best of us. Congrats to White Station. Now, let's see how far they go next year.
  2. ? OK, like I said, I'm convinced that one team from here is making strides to catch up with the rest of Tennessee. I lost all hope and faith in the game of football this weekend.
  3. VolunteerCoach, if you support White Station, where do you volunteer?
  4. I must say that he's a good one and that I hope the new coaching staff at the University of Memphis recruits him and gets him to sign. He wasn't a known commodity in recruiting circles because last year he played TE and not QB. He has that TE mentality too ... it's evident when he plays. Tim Tebowish in attitude and demeanor. He's also pretty fast at 6'-2" and 225 lbs. Rumor has it that they have a great shot at getting Barry Brunetti to switch his commitment from WVU to Memphis.
  5. 1994 Finals - Riverdale 14, Germantown 10 1996 Semi Finals - Brentwood Ady 17, Germantown 6 1998 Semi Finals - Hendersonville 21, Houston 14 1999 Semi Finals - Glencliff 39, Bartlett 7 2000 Semi Finals - Riverdale 12, Cordova 7 2001 Semi Finals - Hendersonville 17, Houston 6 2002 Semi Finals - Brentwood 24, Germantown 14 2003 Finals - Germantown 10 Riverdale 7 2004 Semi Finals - Franklin 31 Germantown 10 (I was at this game, gtown was winning at the half) 2005 Semi Finals - Ravenwood 28 Ridgeway 10 2006 Semi Finals - Ravenwood 35 White Station 28 2007 Semi Finals - Independence 28 Millington 27 2008 Semi Finals - Franklin 35 White Station 18 2009 Finals ? I would say the gulf in class is not as wide as you presume. Are you kidding me? You are trying to argue your point with that? Throw in White Station's win over Brentwood and Shelby County teams are 2-12. Thanks for proving my point.
  6. I typed that because after Arlington lost in the first round of the playoffs, Bmack wrote at length about the weakness of west Tennessee football, implying that it was the root cause of Arlingtons early playoff exit. I actually like Arlington and hope more teams in the Shelby metro area mimic their adoption of the spread offense. I wasn't saying that was the reason for Arlington's early exit. I was just stating a fact. I have been saying that for at least 12 years. White Station beating Brentwood doesn't prove anything except that they were the better team that night. IF White Station beats Maryville, then I'll be convinced that at least one team from here is making strides to catch up with the rest of Tennessee. That said, I'll be shocked if White Station is within 40 points of Maryville when the clock his 0:00 Saturday night. It took everything White Station had to beat Brentwood the other night. If Brentwood would have won, it would have taken everything they had. Maryville trounced a very, very good Riverdale team. I was watching the game with several other coaches, and we all agreed that it didn't matter who won the White Station/Brentwood game, if they struggled with each other, neither one of them would stand a chance against Maryville.
  7. Mitchell should beat Beech. MUS should beat MBA. I was hoping to see an MUS-Ensworth matchup, but oh well. I know Anthony Hayes feels more confident about this game than any other this year, but not me. I don't think White Station stands much of a chance. Sure, White Station could be anybody on any given night, but I don't see it happening tonight.
  8. Fair enough, but it was said a while back on here that Collierville needed some new blood in there. And right or wrong, I agree with that, and I'm sticking to it.
  9. It's my opinion. Like TraderB said, 7-4 seasons seemed to be the norm over the past several years. It just seems like nothing will change when you hire a guy that learned everything he knows from the coach that was there for 30+ years.
  10. Nothing against Coach Abel, but this is a bad, bad, bad hire.
  11. Then why don't they? They get at least one shot every year.
  12. This is funny. If a West Tennessee team can't regularly beat a Middle Tennessee team in just the fourth round of the playoffs, who's to say that they could beat Middle and East Tennessee teams for four rounds?
  13. Ok then, I said it best. Those Rutherford County teams are all in the same region/district.
  14. Let's see. This is MUS's second year running it and they have won 20 straight games. Arlington installed it this year and they finished the regular season 10-0. Brighton turned it all around last season, their first running The System. Those are just off the top of my head. Yes, Wilson Central's season was a disaster. My guess is that Aric didn't coach it correctly. There are a ton of little things you have to coach. You don't have to have a quarterback and some ballers, you just need a QB that can consistently complete a 5-10 yard pass and receivers that can catch them. However, the better the QB, the more you can do and the better the results will be. This is from a DNJ article: More than 300 schools in 45 states, including Hawaii and Alaska, are clients of The System. Texas has the most with 50 schools. Kentucky and Alabama, states in which Franklin coached for several years, also carry a large clientele. Nineteen Tennessee schools are clients of The System, most of which will play in the playoffs Friday...The System clients played in 17 state championship games in 12 states last year. Memphis University School, a client, won the Division II-AA state title last season and touts a 10-0 record heading into the playoffs.
  15. I know what you are saying about the playoffs, but the way it's set up is for the best team in an area to make it out. Then it's best against best. Class 5A has been around since 1993. Rutherford County has had a team in the championship game all but 3 years. Riverdale has been there 9 times, Oakland and Smyrna 2 each. Then siegel and Blackman opened up and all Blackman did this year was win the toughest district in the state. Shelby County, on the other hand, has been there just twice and Tipton County once. Sure, we can agree to disagree, but it seems pretty cut and dry to me.
  16. They want a Tony Franklin guy. They have been calling around West TN looking for interested coaches.
  17. WOW! Just bypassed the semifinal game against the Whitehaven/White Station game alltogether and went straight to Cookville. Oh well ... until a West TN area team beats a Middle TN area team in the semi-finals ... I guess that is the attitude that is to be expected huh? Fair enough! This is what we've been trying to tell you in the other thread...
  18. I heard he's looking to get out of Brighton ASAP. He was interested in the Collierville job and I think he's interested in the siegel job.
  19. Ah, it's nice to see smart people on this message board. It's crazy to me that people are still arguing this when there is tons of proof out there. Get out of your little your little bubble and see what else is out there. FootballIsMyLife, you are exactly right about Coach McDaniel. I know you said you get around to watch football, it sounds like you know your stuff. Where you going this weekend? Aydelott was pretty darn successful at Hillsboro, was he not? And after a down year at Riverdale, he's back on top of the state in 6A.
  20. I agree with FootballIsMyLife and Ace5. They couldn't be more right. It kind of seems like some of the people on here are homers, not that there is anything wrong with that. It's great that you have a favorite team and you support them no matter what. However, I would bet my life savings that Ace5 and I have seen more high school football statewide than anyone else involved in this conversation. We go to games on bye weeks. We are at playoff games every week during the postseason, no matter what, and not just in the Memphis area. We have been to 12 straight state championship weekends. We know coaches across the state. We have seen first hand how things are done differently east of here. I already know what the next comment will say, but we aren't hating on football in Memphis. Like Ace5 said, we are from the area and root for football in Memphis.
  21. Some coaches refer to them as special plays.
  22. Yeah, he's a White Station grad, I'm sure he'll be covering the game.
