  1. I'm not going to feel too much pitty for someone who has a free education and gets to play one of the greatest games in the world...every day. I would have killed to play basketball at any college, and when someone has that kind of ability, and they make wrong decisions...it's frustrating. hoopsguru-I am sure it is very hard to be a student athlete...but their priorities are not like the ones that regular students have. Try taking 19 hours of school, working, and having to figure out how to pay tution, pay for books, and pay for meals. Oh yeah, and then seeing one of your favorite players take 6 hours, play sports all day, get free tution, free books, free meals, etc. This isn't about Trey, it's about athletes and getting their priorities straight, I didn't pass judgement on Trey, I don't know the man...
  2. I think MBA has a good chance of winning, and I'm going to talk about it right now... 1. MBA won the state title in the toughest division in high school football in the state of TN...they destroyed a team that was loaded with D1 material in the state championship game, and were really never threatened. I was shocked to see it, and still can't believe it...they were just on a roll. 2. This is an early season game. Who knows what happens. Maybe the weather is really bad, and the passing game doesn't work so much. Maybe Brohm gets hurt. Maybe Brohm's receivers or his center get hurt. They already said one of Trinity's best players is suspended...maybe someone else gets hurt or disciplined between now and then. 3. Those guys are human. They aren't machines. They bleed, they get hurt, they make mistakes, and occassionally...they lose. 4. They have a great coach, and both teams will be healthy, they don't have to worry about traveling also. 5. Even the most outclassed team can hang with another team for a while. My senior year we played a team that had double the amount of players as we did...110 to be exact, and we were only down a touchdown at the end of the half. That was mid season, so we only had 1 week to prepare...think of how long both of these teams have prepared for each other. I haven't seen this Trinity team. I am sure they are plenty good and worthy of their championships and lofty rankings. But if every game was played where the team that was supposed to win won, it wouldn't be much fun would it? There would be no point in playing, we would have a winner without ever playing.
  3. I believe that Fayette lost Pace Pannell who started for them as a sophomore at runningback...he was a pretty good player.
  4. Don't make this a bash Mario thread...the kid played high school basketball and is going to hopefully play college basketball...which is more than 99% of the people out there.
  5. That happens to private schools as well. Clarksville Academy doesn't even have a team anymore...yet they did go to the state title game in '97? Got thumped by Trousdale, like 46-0. The kids lost interest, and I assume this happened because of less and less community support.
  6. I figure that place holds less than 40,000 correct? Make the Liberty Bowl, MTSU's stadium, and Neyland that exact same size, and out of all of them...VU would be the nicest. Or make VU and the Liberty Bowl 107,000 and VU would still be the nicest. I was very impressed with the stadium the last time I was there...I wasn't impressed with the product. Seat for seat I'd say it is nicer than any other stadium in TN and Mississippi...minus a certain place called Adelphia. I understand exactly what you are saying...but since it is smaller than most, newer, and centrally located, I would think that VU's stadium is where you would want to host a high school football game (if you had to host one at a college stadium).
  7. Rollred- Did you say the VU stadium is average? I think it is a very nice stadium...it's much nicer than Neyland (Even though neyland is bigger) and it is much nicer than the Liberty Bowl (even though the liberty bowl is bigger). I really liked going to their stadium. The past two or three years, they have done the Bridge Builders kick off at the Liberty Bowl...8 schools last year competed and I think they had over 25,000 fans in a 64,000 stadium...the atmosphere was great...just a little hot. CoachT was there, he might disagree with me, but I thought, especially for the night games, they were very nicely done. Papa John's stadium is awesome...I think they are all chair backed seats, you have to remember though, it only seats around 36-38,000....so when UL plays, the atmosphere is great cus it's always close to a sell out.
  8. jayray, it depends on what site he was ranked on...You are right, Henderson was good, but no where near that good... Was it on a credible site such as ESPN? Or did willie's uncle have a site lol? Tell me who is better than jayray... cus it isn't Hudgens of RHS, he's got a cannon for an arm, but now that RHS is in 4A they will have trouble...I.E. 40-0 loss to East in one quarter.
  9. The best quarterback in the state is the kid from Smyrna. Go to ESPN.COM and then go to college football, mel kiper has the top 25 players at each position, and he is one of the top 25 quarterbacks in the country...no one else from TN was listed at Quarterback...so therefore, he is the best. Other good ones...Ridgeway's QB, MUS' QB, McCallie's QB, MBA's QB, just to name a few.
  10. I don't understand it either... My private school education is of no use.
  11. I posted this on another thread... The biggest football recruit this year is from Tyner.
  12. I'm 19 and I don't do drugs, and therefore do not worry getting caught with drugs. He should know better. Is he a waste? NO, but is that a good thing to be doing and could it possibly lead to worse things, and is it illegal? Yes, Yes, and You betcha. I do plenty of bad things too, and I'm not trying to make Trey look bad, but he needs to straighten up. I have heard that he might have left Ole Miss because of drugs (coach didn't want him on the team if he was going to do drugs, so he left)...but I can't confirm that...only him and Rod Barnes really know the truth.
  13. I played against him when he was a sophomore. He was pretty good for a sophomore, I didn't realize he was 6'. I have heard he is a pretty good athlete, and he is strong for his size...I had no idea he was UT calibur, but those coaches know alot more than me. Congratulations and best wishes go out to the young man. (Ya'll do know UT fullback Troy Fleming was a BGA wildcat as well correct?)
  14. Nope, I'm not muffin... For two reasons 1-The kid left ECS. I went to a rival D2 school and my brother goes to a different D2 school meaning my school and my brothers school won't see him in basketball and baseball, which means ECS won't be as good hopefully, and maybe mine and his will beat ECS. 2-This is probably better for the kid. Pomeranz will get around a 550,0000 signing bonus. So NO I'm not complaining, I am glad the kid left. I am saying that many public school supporters would complain if this was reversed...can you understand that muffin? Sorry it has taken me so long to respond. 300,000 people are without power in the Memphis area, my family included, we are in charge of numerous properties and they are damaged from the storm...the public/private debate is not my highest priority right now....so replies might take me awhile, Sorry.
  15. I didn't say he did anything wrong. And I don't mean to imply that he did. But when private schools get kids that transfer people assume they are recruited. You said it yourself, he might have gone there because of Houston's success...kids might go to private schools because they are successful. If you say that there is no foul play involved and the kid went there because he moved legally and wanted to play for a good team (which is what I believe) then you have to admit that kids will do that at many private schools....very good baseball players, football players, basketball players etc. If you say that the kid went there because he was recruited illegaly, then here is a public school that has cheated and a private school that is the victim, and this proves that it is not fair either way, and perhaps we shouldn't split because of that.
  16. The Commercial Appeal had an article on recruiting earlier today... The best football player in the state is at Tyner, a magnet school, if I recall. They can get good very fast, and when they start winning, what will the public supporters do? The accusations will start flying once again... I can't get to the link right now, we had a huge storm come through here around 730 am or so...many people are dead or without power, including myself, I can post it later. University of Memphis shut down for the entire day. They say there is more damage than the ice storm of '94. I hope everyone around the area and state are okay...but I believe it hit Arkansas worse than us.
  17. Yep, I assume it. Your sarcasm is not appreciated by the way lazarus. Are you telling me publics wouldn't cry foul? What do baylor and your friend's school have in common? They both have no dog in this hunt. One is in D2 and the other is out of state, neither are competing against public schools in the state of TN. ECS also is in D2, but Houston High School...is not.
  18. Band Members don't stretch and run sprints in the summer. They aren't worried about their weight, they aren't thrown 15 feet in the air. They don't have the kind of pressure that cheerleaders have (I know, I played two instruments as well as played varsity football, basketball, and then competed on the knowledge bowl team, and the chess team). Cheerleading is very much a sport. I'm not kissing up to anyone, I respect cheerleaders for their hardwork and dedication...some cheerleading programs are not very serious, but then again some golf teams, wrestling teams, bowling teams, cross country and track teams aren't taken seriously either. One of my friends cheered and she almost broke her neck, she was temporarily paralyzed so I will never say that isn't a sport. They cry if they mess up, I have never seen a band member cry if he or she messed up. They cry when they do well also, I have never seen a pianist cry after a recital, even though I took part in them for over 6 years. They go through a lot, and their commitment deserves and demands respect. When they stop respecting your sports, then you stop respecting theirs'
  19. Ya'll do know that Steve Matthews holds the all time single season passing record at Memphis State and also started and WON a NFL game throwing for over 350 yards! I believe he was playing for the Chiefs then?
  20. Josh Stafford scored 35 points in only 3 quarters of action in a win against Hamilton... Josh's father was Mr. Basketball, Arkansas Razorback standout, and NBA player Ron Huery.
  21. I figured he was either abusive, or had possibly sexually or physically assaulted one of the players...I'm kind of glad he was only abusive. The Houston High Boys Basketball coach is pretty bad too. He makes his players run till the puke and is very abusive as well. When they played my Christian High School, I could hardly believe what I was hearing. He was responsible for one player, who was 6'6, leaving and going back to Missouri! Needless to say, my school has beaten them pretty handily for awhile, and I hope the man learns from his mistakes...because they have over 2000 students, and should not be losing to schools that have 425.
  22. I wasn't able to attend many games yesterday. Hamilton last year featured a lineup that went 4 guys over 6'8 at some points, and the other kid being 5'9 but really quick and good (Dustin Richmond maybe?)...I completely forgot about Hamilton. Perhaps because they really pose no threat, their coaching really hurts them. Do you know who won the Hamilton versus Sheffield game? Sheffield was destroying Hamilton fpr a while, and Josh Stafford took over. I didn't get to see it, but he tried dunking on Shawne Williams but got fouled and just hung on the room...not to bad considering he is 6'1. I believe they were winning 30-12 at one point...Sheffield and Raleigh Egypt have more returning firepower than anyone else in AA from Memphis...Ridgeway has some great players in Pierre Niles, an upcoming SOPHOMORE who went to the Nike camp recently, and at 6'5 250, he can cause some problems inside. They also have 6'6, strongman Michael Rice, who used to go to White Station...and ex-starting point guard for Briarcrest, Jordan Mincy. Rebelron-another great player that you are forgetting about in the state of TN is Jamont Gordon. I think he is better than the Delks, and better than Tyler Smith...he is so explosive, and his body is much bigger than the Delks, and he is a great passer...you really can not stop him, just hope he has an off game. He outshined everyone at the AAU 16U state tournament a few weeks ago, which had some great talent in attendance. This is the best preseason basketball camp in the state of Tn in my opinion...and might have the best overall talent, per team, than anywhere besides the Arby's Classic (and it might be better than them!)
  23. Raleigh Egypt is in AA, not AAA. So White Station doesn't really have to worry about them. Hamilton has the best player in the city, but White Station is by far the deepest and probably tallest overall team in the city and one of the tallest in the state. 6'7 guards come off the bench...J.P. Prince is 6'6 or so and is the starting SG. Their center is 6'8, their small forward is 6'4 to 6'5 I believe. They are just really tall and they can all shoot the three. If you took out their point guard, who is really good but only about 5'10? Their starting lineup would be about 6'6. They have a great coach as well. Bradley Central is the only other team that I have seen that can keep up with White Station, perhaps Fairley as well.
  24. It's interesting you say that Rebelron... Raleigh Egypt, who lost to White Station by 16 a week ago, dethroned the champs and are currently undefeated at the MUS tournament. They beat WSHS in a controversial game by 4. The best teams that are still undefeated are probably R.E. and Fairley, who has the best front line out of anyone in the entire state...6'10, and a 6'6 kid who has arms bigger than my legs. Fairley had 4 dunks in a span of one minute and 30 seconds...and that was with the 6'10 and the 6'6 kids out.
  25. Sorry guys, But Melrose has more talent than anyone in 4A, with the exception of Hillsboro. Melrose is loaded, I'm not saying they will win it all, but they only lost to Hillsboro by 7, and could easily have won the game.
