  1. $$$$$$ can't be the reason. If parents can get their kids to Cinn, Atl, etc for travel ball, surely they can scrape up enough $$$$$ for school ball. The arguement that privates are to far apart is absurd ! Let me help you out in making a new district Webb CAK Grace Berean Knox Christian Catholic These are all within 15 miles of each other. Of course these schools will never do something like this because they would rather drive 70 miles to Tellico, 45 miles to Rockwood, 40 miles Harriman etc. in order to win, and run up scores. These schools except Webb, want to compete with schools that they have a huge advantage over. These already play each other in non district games it shouldn't be that difficult to make a district out of these schools. Of course they wouldn't do it cause their advantage of being able to recruit any kid anywhere would be gone. That's the reason D1 privates will not go D2.....enuf said !
  2. Sounds like CAK,CPA, FRA etc. Parents from travel teams talk to one another re schools. Goes something like this.....My son goes to GCA, we love it and he loves it....small school, great academics, good sports program. If your son comes and we get a few more kids from our travel team we'll crush the local schools and have a good shot at State every year. These parents work hard at creating a Stacked Team kinda like Little League parents do. I'm sure the 15 year old pitcher pitched 100 innings last summer vs excellent travel teams as did most of his teammates. I'm also fairly sure Harriman, Greenback,Tellico etc can't say the same. I don't think anything is wrong with this except these schools refuse to go Dll because they don't want to lose their advantage over public schools. It seems to me that a school formed to glorify God would want any student that wanted to attend... to be able to attend no matter if they have money or not. Non sporting kids can receive financial aid ...kids that want to play sports can't receive aid. Seems to me that these schools would want to spread the Ministry to all!
  3. I think it finished.... 1 Loudon 2 Stone 3 Alcoa 4 CAK 5 Kingston 6 Scott Should be a good tournament Since it's at Loudon they should be favorite.
  4. With 2 district games to go it looks like Loudon #1 seed and Stone has inside track on #2 seed both would get 1st round byes.
  5. Kingston beat Alcoa this week..... Looks like my clear vision is getting blurry ! I guess thats why it's fun to follow this district.
  6. Church based school out of Chattanooga. Girls come from everywhere...Lithiunia, Serbia, South America with some local girls. They have some tall girls 6"5 range may become really good in time, now just average. One guard has a pretty good skill set. Just seen them once so its hard to tell how good they are, I would say they would be a good A team beating most and an average AA beating some. They are the tallest team I've seen all year.Lots of hustle and good attitute, not sure they all speak the same language. Hope that helps...
  7. Loudon and Alcoa both have started District strong. Their game should be a good one. Kingston beating CAK is somewhat of a surprise.
  8. Final Farragut 12-3 39 West 2-9 52 Is this a correct score? If so it looks like the "ship" has over corrected and may be headed to the bottom of the 4AAA lake!
  9. Sticking with it for now. May have to use a mullican once district play starts!
  10. The lack of solid post play may spell their doom, but...... Hope to see them soon. Love to watch a small team "get after It".
  11. Not sure what happened at William Blount....but they have made a remarkable turnaround ! They have beaten Farragut, Maryville, Walker Valley and McMinn Central since mid December. Looks like they may a tough tournament foe.
  12. How bout this...... Any school that is Private, play as a Private. Not sure why a school that is formed as an alternative to Public schools, plays sports as a public school. Is it to take advantage of their Private status to dominate the Public schools? Not sure why Private schools would not want to aid hardship students that play sports. If hardship aid is given to all deserving students, why are athletes left out ? With the increased number of private schools across the state, not sure the (travel, gas, schedule) arguement is still viable. If you can spend $7k-$10k on tution and drive up to an hour to go to school, you shouldn't mind the extra sports travel. As for the "open zone" controversy, (1) Go to your school board and let them know you want your school "open zoned" so you can compete in sports. (2) If you want a more complicated solution, we could just have the schools report how many "out of zone" they have. Example...Alcoa has 550 student ...if tuition students are 150...then competion enrollment would be 700.
  13. Early results would indicate Loudon is strong. CAK and Alcoa are also strong...only losses have been against very good teams.Kingston, Stone, and Scott are also off to good starts. Looks to be a good winter of close games. Nov 30th prediction: 1 Loudon 2 Alcoa 3 CAK 4 Stone 5 Kingston 6 Scott As for the district tournament...any of the top 4 depends on who's hot.
  14. Agree ...it can be a huge advantage if the mission is sports. Seems that the advantage is greatest in the smaller classifications. Small mostly rural schools just can't compete the the privates money and ability to attract players from a large area. In the upper classes larger public systems can compete. Side note....all semi finalists for girls soccer in A-AA state were private. I bet public soccer coaches wish the privates would compete in Div II
  15. Maybe recruit isn't the correct term. Attract might better describe the CAK athletic program. Just sayin....no other school in the district can attract a player from McMinn County to play basketball. The only school that this girl could play for is CAK....public schools must abide by zones and boundries. Not sayin...CAK coaches recruit...don't have to ....parents from travel team suggest to other parents on travel team lets keep these girls together... come to CAK and we will dominate.(Nothing wrong with this...if I could afford the 10K and the hour drive I might be tempted to send my child). So to reanswer the orginal question....as in almost all sports CAK will win the district.
  16. The loss of these 2 girls will hurt but CAK will easily win District vs rural schools that can't recruit girls that live 50 miles from the school !
  17. Solid group returning...Senior post and point guard are among the best players in the area. Other returning players are also very good. Plus,Alcoa is a great school system...uhm...maybe I'll apply lol.
  18. Sounds good for the future. District 4AAA had alot of good young players should be good district games ahead ! One question....since Catholic is private will the players that have relatives working at Catholic get a free or reduced tution ? TSSAA surely would overlook this since relatives are school employees!
  19. Hopefully McMinn over Cannon and Liberty over Macon....because thats how my bracket contest is picked lol. but after watching (thanks TSSAA for the coverage) its wide open !
  20. Most of these girls play travel ball and play against good competition during the spring and summer. Many play "up" in age divisions...so they are not in awe of junior and seniors. Playing in tournaments every week where its win or go home after pool play also helps with composure. The future of Tennessee girls basketball is truly bright. Now if we could get a shot clock......
  21. Currently the classes are configured by taking the total # of schools and dividing by 3. Even if you add another class your still going to have some wide gaps in enrollment. Maybe they could determine what is an acceptable % difference between the lowest enrollment and highest in a classification...75%,80% etc. From this percentage divide out the classes. It may end up 50 in 1A,100 in 2A,125 in 3A,and 50 in 4A. The competition may be "fairer"....but I wouldn't want to be the one to redo districts and regions!
  22. It may seem inequitable, but consider AA.. 500 emrollment schools compete against 1000 enrollment schools. In A..100 enrollment schools compete against 500 enrollment schools.
  23. Love the MC radio guy...but he may be a little biased..lol
