  1. I take it from the last post that Danny Valencic was injured in the scrimmage against Centennial last night? Hope it wasn't too serious but from the post it may have been? How did the teams do?
  2. Unfortunately, school has already started in Wilson County. However, starting tomorrow, the teams will be able to practice from 5:30 AM to 7 AM as a compromise.
  3. As far as the best linebackers, look no further than Mt. Juliet's combo of Caleb Knox and Matt Jones. One linebacker can make a huge difference but two linebackers who seem to know exactly where the other is, his scraping tendencies, etc.., two linebackers of their caliber is tough to beat.
  4. Keep in mind that Nashville and the surrounding counties are in a basin beginning as you make your way down the Cumberland Plateau. Consequently, the combination of high heat, humidity and no and I mean no air circulation, stagnates the air. With the jet stream, (which controls all weather), is flat-lining across Canada for the next week or so, this heat is dangerous. Having said that, it seems to me that as long as coaches aren't stupid, can practice at sundown and preach hydration to the players, all should be fine. Hey, at least the players aren't grabbing a handful of salt tablets and getting water maybe once an hour like back in the day. 5. So..Oakland had a good time against MJ...what was the final outcome? Sounds like nothing but good thats great for yall congrats The answer is one's vs. ones, 7-7.
  6. The original topic was who are the best LB's for '07. Coaches in Region 6 AAAA will tell you that they have to look out for Mt. Juliet's Matt Jones. At 5' 10" and 210, he's not going to get the press like some of the aforementioned names in this thread. But for a pure high school linebacker he stacks up against anyone. He scrapes incredibly well to the ball and has a knack of reading the cutbacks. He has really good lateral and closing speed and just a "nose for the ball." Also, the 33 stack defense allows him many opportunities to make plays.
  7. So how did Mt. Juliet fare in the passing scrimmage with Riverdale? With the entire defensive backfield returning for the Bears, coming off of I think 18 picks last year, curious how they stacked up. Also, with Robert Hill moving to QB, how did he and his receivers do?
  8. Where is the MJ Riverdale passing scrimmage going to be?
  9. With the miserable play calling last year and the constant 3rd and longs due to stubborn 'establish the run" philosophy, I am looking forward to Watson's unleashing the arm of Sweeney this year. When Tech was put in the position where they had to throw the ball from the shotgun, Sweeney was able to throw for 2,292 yards and set 7 school records as a Freshman be named OVC Newcomer of the Year and 2nd Team All Conference. The 20+ point 4th quarter comeback the last game of the year at SEMO was a sign of what should be an exciting year. One thing Watson brings to the table is the gunslinger mentality and it should be fun to watch.
  10. So, if CoachT expands to Alabama, will we be logging on to "Coach T & A"? Really a bad joke but just couldn't resist.
  11. By my count, Mt. Juliet had 10 errors. I haven't seen them make 10 errors all season. It wasn't the bats by Franklin, it was the defense, or lack thereof by MJ. The coaches can only do so much, the players have to make the plays they have made since little league. It was one of those nights. The most telling stat is that Taylor Hill left with Franklin leading 8-3 but Taylor gave up only one earned run. Great year, bad finish.
  12. Gville-Hendersonville, county school, Gallatin, county school, Station Camp, county school, Beech, county school, Portland, county school. There are no "city schools" or special school districts in Sumner County. There are schools located in the city limits but no "city schools." As for being a stepchild, good leadership from your county commissioners and school administartors would solve that problem.
  13. My last comment on the field. If you were at home plate and the right fielder were standing on the line at the fence in right, you would be able to see from about mid-thigh or knee and up depending on the size of the fielder. Left field goes up at about a 30 degree angle or so for the last 20 feet, give or take, until it reaches the bottom of the fence. In other words, when the two bubbas were on the dozier it looks like they shut one eye, with a beer in one hand and said, "That'll git 'er done." Ridiculous.
  14. Don't call me whiney, but, why in the world after 25 years in existance in one of the wealthiest counties, (3rd I believe), in Tennessee, are the Beech baseball facilities simply put, horrible? There should be some restrictions on who should host tournament games and any school that has a field that looks like two drunk bubba's got on a dozier one night and decided to make a "field" "over yonder Bubba", shouldn't be hosting. /blink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blink.gif" /> It's crap and any defense is wrong on any level.

    The Rain

Just curious if Beech has a tarp and what the liklihood of games today are?
  16. I was pleasantly surprised with the black and gold game last week. You can tell the weight room has paid off for these guys. Even more impressive is the stable, and I mean stable of running backs that Roger has. From what I could tell between the 6 or 7 he has, rising sophomores to seniors, (not counting Tyler Carr, the top returning tailback who is playing baseball), he's got great inside running and sideline, corner-turning speed that should be fun to watch. I think the defense led by sideline to sideline LB Matt Jones will be also fun to watch. If Robert Hill who has moved to QB can hold on to the spot, they should be very tough to contain. Hoping for a good year.
  17. unc..Lighten up. Ms. Lanning deserves all the accolades that she received and will have a stellar career at MTSU, props to her. As far as this thread is concerned, I beg your forgiveness, fall on the sword, perform a mea culpa that I would have the audacity to comment on the Tennessean's Midstate Players of the year. Please, please, can you find it your heart to forgive me. /biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />
  18. Congrats to all those who made the Tennessean's All Midstate team. Not sure how K. C. VanAtta from Mt. Juliet was left off the three teams. Right at 100 3's for the year and led a short-handed (Taylor Hall-knee), Lady Bear team to the regions. I guess we all have opinions.
  19. Mailman, I agree, if you can get 'em, play 'em. And if you can't...complain that you didn't.
  20. Hey Mailman, (and I guess you too Silk), I just noticed you guys are NOT Plus Members. $12 bucks a year, .031 cents per day. Oh the shame.
  21. Silk...Go away. Thank you for your time and attention. Mailman, the foul was on the floor and the three $100 bills were in his pocket. Best call ever!! Hey Mailman, don't you miss the screaming Smyrna Fan?
  22. Mailman has gone postal. All I can say is quote, "Give it to Gassie, Give it to Gassie, Give it to Gassie...!!" For 32 minutes and all the overtimes a few years back. Come to think of it, that was probably good coaching.
  23. Mailman, dude, reality check here. I have had fun over the years with you but, come on. "Coach Brandon has figured out Fryer." That's laughable. If any coach had the three posts that Wilson Central has, Tierney SHOULD win Miss Basketball, Williams is the pounder and a great athlete, and Hassell is a future Miss Basketball, D-1 signee, they should be booted from the profession if they don't pull this off. Figured out Fryer, really a nonsensical thing to say on any level. Take a look at the Mt. Juliet team and you tell me how they managed to win 26 games vs. 3 losses while losing a key starter early in January and a very thin bench. And don't even start the stuff about making excuses, etc. Just take a look and you tell me how Chris pulled this off.
  24. Just a minor clarification. Wilson Central won the District 9 AAA tournament championship. Mt. Juliet won the District 9 AAA regular season championship. Both will now host at home on Friday night and continue on back to Beech. Hopefully, things will turn out, ie, beating Smynra for Mt. Juliet, where they will be in opposite brackets in Murfreesboro where there is a chance they could meet again for all the marbles. As I said back before the season started, if Wilson Central doesn't repeat as state champions, someone's got some 'splainin to do.
  25. I read in the paper that both Wilson Central and Mt. Juliet will be hosting games Friday night, no matter the outcome tonight.
