  1. 1-A and 2-A schools need to band together and put everyone back in with a multiplier. Let's see who would be raising cain then. Lets see what all those big schools would vote for when the ball is back in there court.
  2. Looks like all you 1-A schools got dupped. When you guys sided with all the big schools for the split a few years back, little did you know that it would only help the big guys. Isn't it funny that when you need those guys this time they turn there noses up. If all you 1-A and 2-A schools are smart you will band together and put everyone back in with a multiplier. Lets see how all those 4-A and 5-A schools will vote then. Its time for a little pay back.
  3. have heard that there may be some problems? Does anyone know whats up?
  4. OK, so there's no split, Lets here from all these experts on this multiplier solution. Once again the old level playing field will come into play, and there will be this advantage and that advantage. All these statistics about how many privates won this and how many privates won that. How the publics will dominate now that they have this or that. I have read so many statistics and opinion polls who knows what to believe. When is common sense going to surface. Move schools around anyway you what too. The cream will always rise to the top. I hope that the multiplier system creates more competition but I have a feeling it won't. When you take the 30 or so privates and move them up, someone is going to move down, so Collinwood you better get ready for Trousdale Co., East Robertson, how about the Tyner Rams. These aare all teams that could drop to single A. All the good 3-A teams better get ready for all these private schools that will move up. You cannot legislate parity.
  5. Yes, the Bears worked during the summer and through the fall with different fundraisers so that they could pay for the trip. (just over $4000) Again this year, the organizers elected to place Bradley in the American division, which also has 16 teams. The division above is the National division with 16 teams and the division below is called the "Black and Blue" division, with 8 teams. Forty high school teams total, not to mention 2 college divisions. Bradley finished tied for 5th in 2001 in the National division and was Runner-up last year in the American division, losing to Johnson City, NY in the finals by about 3 pts. They know they'll have all the competition they can handle, but that's exactly why they've raised the money to go.
  6. That is my point exactly. I think some of the things that you say are advantages are actually disadvantages. I have been on both sides of this issue, I can say that to much parent involvement can be a disadvantage. Those with money and power abuse it more in a private situation than in a public. Because they are paying more for his education, sitting on the bench may not be an option in there opinion. There is more job security on the public side than on the private. Finiancially, public schools have alot of resources that most privates schools don't have access too, like tax payers money, federal grant money. Although coaching supplements may be larger in the small private schools compared to public, the teaching pay makes up for it as well as other benifits like, health insurance, retirement, job security. Teaching and coaching in the private schools vs. public is about even in my book. Both have advantages and disadvantages. Don't give me that level playing field because there is no such thing. Even if you split there will be public schoold that have an advantage over other public schools, there will be private schools that are endowed and some that aren't. Is that a level playing field, when one private school is a tuition based school while those who are endowed can have empty seats and still survive. Get of your high horse and come back to reality.
  7. Get off this level playing field stuff, it ain't going to happen whether you are a public school or private, selective or not selective. You guys are whats wrong with High school sports, you are either to smart for your own good or to stupid to know better. Just give me those that want to compete against the best and the rest can just play for the participation. To be the best you have to beat the best. If that means I have to beat MBA and Riverdale back to back then so be it. Then I will know that I am a true champion.
  8. This argument is futile, you cannot legislate parity, someone will always have an advantage over someone else. Its not a private-public issue, its about those who have great programs and those who don't. Its about communities or schools who provide the resources to be successful. Its like saying that Memphis schools have an unfair advantage in basketball because they have the best players, so maybe Basketball should just be split between Memphis schools and the rest of Tennessee, so someone else can win a state championship. Maybe Shelbyville should have to withdraw from the TSSAA and be an independent program like the Oak Hill Academy boys team because coach Insell has an unfair advantage because his program has such a high national profile. Come on guys, you cannot just try to get rid of your competition just because you can't beat them. Look at Trousdale Co, they refuse to play in AA because of private schools so they move up to the non-private 3-A division. Have they won any state championships at this level? You cannot legislate yourself a state championship. Competition breeds parity. Like I have said on my other post, decide how many state champions you want in each sport divide by that number and leave it on the field or court for everyone to fight it out. How great is Marion County's championship win over Brentwood Academy compared to others. You can't say that it doesn't mean something more. How sweet is Cleveland's first state championship over Brentwood Academy, Coach Benny Monroe got to avenge his defeat to them in 82. Beating someone else that year wouldn't have been the same. Say what you want but splitting it up more will just water down future championships even more than it has already. If putting everyone back in with a multiplier is what its takes to get everyone back in then that is the best way to go. But I promise you this, there will always be parity issues, recruiting issues, students moving in and out of school zones to get eligible no matter which way you go. Split or no split, You are not going to eliminate your competition.
  9. It is good to see these two fine coaches represent what high school coaching should be in this years Clinic Bowl. Both of these coaches are class acts who have help build and sustain great programs. These schools should feel honored to have them coaching thier young men. It should be a classic. Good luck to both Teams.
  10. If this is true all you need to do is ask one question, did this meeting happen before or after the seperation. If it was before then you have to ask yourself if it is ligitimate, if it happened after the seperation then you have an arguement. Only coach Luna and the family can answer it truthfully. Like I said only time will tell.
  11. The bottem line is that no matter how you divide it someone will always have an advantage. You are not going to solve recruiting problems, there are always going to be a program on the upswing and programs on the down swing, dividing public and private is not going to solve the problems of parity. Its amazing to me how no one can see this. Its not about public vs. private, Its about the haves and have nots. The ones that complain either can't beat the competition or they don't want the competition. Lets face the truth. The only thing that the split has accomplished to this point is to eliminate and split the competition. Murfreesburo, Oak Ridge, Dobyns-Bennett, and a few others in the west dominate in football. These schools pushed the split in football. They eliminated their competition. Did the split produce parity in 5-A. I think not. The same thing will happen in 1-A. Trousdale will move down and along with South-Pitt will dominate. There still will not be parity. The bottem line is you cannot legislate yourself a state championship. Even if there is a split, the programs that are successfull will remain successfull. Look at wrestling, Bradley Central has dominated this sport since the split. If your son wrestles and you live within 100 miles of Bradley guess where you are going to send him. If I have a girl who is great at Basketball, I want her to go to Shellbyville. These programs aren't producing talent, Talent is finding these programs. If you want the best solution put everyone back together divide the schools by how many state champions you want and let them fight it out. Its that simple. Competition breeds parity, not legislation. If you want to compete you will do the things it takes to compete, period. If you are in it for the participation, thats what you will get.
  12. There have been lots of good arguements about this situation, but lets get down to the nitty gritty. I seem to be confused about a few of the details. I am not sure about the motive for the move. Was it the diviorce, was it a change of address, the bad situation at the other school. Who contacted who first. Did the mother contact Gallatin on what she needed to do to get her child eligible, or did this student just happen to enroll at the school and was at practice and all this was found out when gallatin did there eligibilty. We seem to be stuck on after the forms and everything was filled out for TSSAA. I am interested on the before, thats where you will find the answers. Someone had to talk to someone to get the ball started, that goes back to my original post, what were the motives. I have been in education for 12 years, both in the public and private domain. In each case there have been examples of athletes moving. Believe it or not most of them were for ahtletic purposes. Most of the time the parent contacts a particular program on how can there son or daughter can go to that school and become eligible. The school then goes through the process of telling them what needs to be done. I have seen some incredible deception in my years. I have seen parents seperate until there kid graduates, put houses up for sale while renting an apartment in the schools zone only to take the house off the market after graduation. The point that I am trying to make is that the school usually knows what is going on before the process of including the TSSAA ever takes place. Its about integrity and following the intent of the rule. Lets be honest, if a situation is bad enough you take your kid out of it without regard to athletic consequences. Only time will tell whether this was a ligitimate move.
  13. Coach Goodwin has had the tradition of shaking all of his players hands for a long time. Most of the players that are on the team have gone to DCA from the first grade and have had relatives play there. Coach Goodwin has carried on the winning tradition of DCA football, started by Ken Redman. He has been apart of every DCA state champion team. He is one of the most underrated coaches in Nashville. I hope when he decides to retire the DCA community will recognize him in some special way. He is very deserving.
  14. Once again, You can spin it any way you want to, but the bottem line is did this player move for athletic purposes. That is the intent of the transfer rule, to keep students from moving from school to school for athletic purposes. If the member schools feel that this rule needs to be changed then someone needs to make a proposal. Every school tries to find ways of circumventing this rule, find loop-holes to get someone eligible. There are two questions I would like all the Gallatin supporters to answer. One, did this student move for athletic purposes, and did the coaches and administraters try to circumvent the transfer rule to get someone eligible. Don't give me they answered the questions correctly or they followed the guidelines of the TSSAA. If you can answer the above questions truthfully then you have a case in my book, if not then you have to live with the TSSAA decision. If schools would police themselves, we would be better off, but that would be to much to ask.
  15. I apoligize for not making myself clear in my first post, but I assume everyone is as smart as me and can discern information relative to the post.
  16. There are eight states that border this great state of Tn. It is a known fact there are players not only playing for private school but also public schools. Examples, South Pitt is a school that is on the Alabama line. there have been times that players who can't play at North Jackson, cross the line and play there. In Clarksville there are those who live in Fort Cambell Ky. and participate in schools in Montgomery Co. You may have someone who lives in N.C. and decides to play at Copper Basin or Cloudland. I am sure that there are many Memphis schools that have players from Arkansas or Mississippi. How about schools in the tri cities, they may have a student from Virginia. This is very common knowledge that this happens, its just not a private-public issue. It runs much deeper.
  17. DCA has had a long tradition of great tailbacks, Wooden is just a product of the program. Its time for DCA to give the head coach Dennis Goodwin the respect that he deserves. He has been a loyal coach throughout the years at DCA, even the times when those who had axes to grind tried to get rid of him. His program has produced many great tailbacks, Jamie Woods, Jeremy Lyons, & Chris Patton, just to name a few. Love him or hate him, you have to respect the job he has done at DCA. He has produced winners, even when he has not had the support of the DCA community. Its time that the DCA community appreciate the job he has done and support him, not just the players.
  18. Talk about stupidity, What about all the private schools whose players come from other states. If the TSSAA is going to let students participate within the association who are not even residents of Tennessee, there is no argument for where the school is, period. Not only are these students participating in division II, there are probably participating in some division I private schools. There is no argument for this school not to be able to participate in TSSAA.
  19. Babybearmom, it isn't important if we agree or not on this subject, but is your logic practical? Sure, there is already a mat there and it's being used by 30-40 wrestlers everyday, who are usually packed on it like sardines, wrestling in groups to make the best use of limited space. Sure, they could come in when the guys finish. At what time, say 7:00? Wrestle a few hours and back home by 9:00 PM ? No potential parent/administrative backlash her huh?And did you say it shouldn't be hard to find a coach?? Why, because of the huge wrestling coaches' supplements? Or maybe because law suits fly around these days like snowballs and every potential male coach who heads up a female team would be an attractive target for a weasel and his lawyer? Or maybe the endless supply of 20 and 30 something females who wrestled in high school and now are teachers will easily fill those jobs?? Politically correct is fine... Gender equity is fine... Be practical in our arguments....priceless.
  20. What makes a great assistant is someone who is loyal to the head coach, willing to work within that coaches system, and has success doing it. No doubt Paul Wade of CPA has proven that. He is someone who has three state championship rings from two different programs. Most good head coaches surround thenselves with good coaches and let them coach. Coach Pack understands that and has surrounded himself with good assistants and gives them the opportunity to coach and succeed.
  21. As good as coach akin and boyd is the hard truth is that the west is much better in the east. Ever since the alphabet region went west and trousdale moved up, its going to be boyd or south pitt every year, but I don't think they can win it. they need to split the alphabet region to even it up.
  22. obviously, it has to be between, Coach Robert High of Brainerd and Coach Kent Smith of Bradley Central. Both Coaches have been to the dance multiple of times and have proven that they have a program that developes talent around good players. Every year they loose talented players but they continue to win.

    Gallatin vs TSSAA

Once again the GOV is going to set the record straight. What has been lost in this situation is the intent of the rule, the role of the tssaa, and the responsibility of Gallatin High School. First, the rule's intent is to control the movement of student atheletes from one school to another for athletic puposes. The role of the tssaa is to monitor and administer the rules when appropriate. It is not the role of the tssaa to enforce the rules, that is the job of the High school. The schools have to start enforcing the rules and stop trying to circumvent them. Gallitan high school has the responsibility to make sure that the move was not for athletic purposes. If Gallatin doesn't like the rule they have the ability to change it by proposal as does any other high school that is a member of tssaa. I see it as Gallatin trying to circumvent the rule by manipulating the situation in order to get this player elegible to play football. When common sense tells you he is moving for athletic purposes.Enough said!!!!
  24. The best stadium and playing surface has to be between Bradley Central High and CPA. They are both great stadiums with great surfaces.
  25. For those who want to know the facts, First the facts on the officials. The official who called the jump ball is related to the head coach of cleveland. The official who called the foul on Cooper, although he did attend Bradley, the truth is he has every reason to hate bradley. This official was the starting point guard at cleveland jr high in eighth grade. He went to Bradley his ninth grade year along with another starter named Robert Goldston. This official never made the team, he was only a pawn used to get goldston to bradley. The third official I am not familiar with. As for the game, you can argue that the calls were bad, but to say they they cost Cleveland the game is only opinion not fact. The facts are these, the calls had nothing to do with Pickel scoring 19 points the fourth quarter. Even after the jump ball and the foul called on cooper that sent pickel to the line he still had to make the two foul shots to take the lead. Fact, Cleveland still had seven seconds to score, in which cleveland got two shots at the basket that could have won the game. These are the facts that should be considered when forming your opinion.
