  1. Anna, As your dad would say "there's a bunch of dufy (plural for duffeses?)on this board."
  2. Since both CBHS and Baylor have beaten SD, SD and Bradley will be wrestling for 3rd and 4th best team in the state. The "True No. 1 Team" will come out of the DII finals.
  3. This thread started off congratulating a great kid for a phenomenal career and pointing out that he had a chance to set the state record for wins. How someone who knows nothing about Alex's motivation or character can publicly question either says much more about the poster than Alex. There's not a program in the country that wouldn't want an Alex Manley wrestling for it. I only wish he was at MCC!
  4. 'bout time! Under Morgan, UTC wrestling was headed to bigger things. When Randy and Jim showed up for the first Southern Open, the program had arrived. I believe at that first Southern Open we had many if not most of the 1972 Olympic team represented although I'm sure I'll be corrected if wrong. Both Petersons, Gable, Sanders,?
  5. Speaking of really really old writers, Jay Searcy has a book out. It's about growing up in Oak Ridge when it was the "Secret City". The man was one of the best sports writers this area ever experienced. He had a particular gift for writing about high scholl athletics. He also wrote a memorable article about when Ernie Rose pinned himself. It was one of the very few matches Ernie and demonstrated how humbling the mat can be.
  6. Schaack thinks tights are cute. But speaking of ringworm, when did it become such a problem? I wreslted in HS in TN in the mid 60s and then in college (pre Title 9). I don't recall that ringworm was ever the major problem it is now and it wasn't as if we were practicing stellar hygene. My theory is that it was introduced into Tennessee by teams from north Alabama.
  7. Prediction is Bradley lost its invitation again!
  8. Rob Healy. He learned everything that Major Worsham had to teach him which meant he was tough as nails. It's genetic.
  9. Schaack was a head coach for one season ('69-'70). His team one the state. He decided to retire from head coaching because it wasn't going to get any better.
  10. [ Looks like I got my pants pulled down to my ankles and had my shapely lilly white butt spanked, and by a fellow fish eater. darn I hate it when that happens. Point taken my favorite uncle, but I thought the rules were different for me. I thought that I could do and say whatever i wanted to and get away with it. I will need to re-read my coacht contract just to verify that I may have been wro.... You better not let your better half peek in my glass house, for then she will know that all men are not created equal. That's for the well wishes for JB, he will need them. Purple attire only worn in the house of red ( teach them not to renew my contract) bcb iii The word picture you painted with your first sentence caused me to lose my lunch! I'm probably going to have nightmares tonight.
  11. Since you're familiar with Bob Jones, here's how they did in a recent tournament in which one of Tennessee's more competitive teams, McCallie, participated: Team Scores 1. McCallie 791.0 2. Vestavia Hills 707.0 3. Mount Anthony Union 703.0 4. Bob Jones 662.0 5. Brother Martin 574.0 6. Oak Mountain 523.0 7. Hewitt Trussville 443.0 8. Centennial 411.0 9. Prattville 359.0 10. Scottsboro 308.0 11. Oxford 283.0 12. Harrison 179.0 13. Vestavia Hills B 102.0 I'm aware of the quality of NC HS wrestling. Two sons of a good friend of mine wrestled in the Charlotte public school system. Both ended up wrestling for Cornell.
  12. Actually with merger of the two independent metropolises of Soddy and Daisy many years ago, the residents now prefer to think of themselves as cosmopolitan as opposed to rural.
  13. The Albert Pick on Murfreesboro RD although I think it might have closed. Come to think of it, it was probably bulldozed for sanitary reasons.
  14. To get back to the original question: Baylor-McCallie hands down. The first game was played in 1905 (McCallie won 41-0) and was played annually until suspended because of violence after the 1940 season. The rivalry wasn't reinstated until 1971 although the mutual hatred was never suspended. After a total of 75 games, the record is 37-35-3 in favor of the River Rats. McCallie's current streak of 11 wins in a row is the most by either team. Baylor will again selfishly (and with complete disdain for general good) move the game from Finley where the entire community can enjoy it to their own campus in order to to improve their chances. Speculation is that the Baylor endowment has taken such a beating the last two years (much like its team) that the school is now in need of gate receipts. Obviously, I am completely neutral and all of the above was written with complete objectivity.
  15. As a connoisseur of high school athletic facilities, McCallie's plumbing is easiest the finest in the state. Unfortunately, no points will be assigned during the game for outstanding bathroom facilities: Ensworth by double digits as painful as that is to say. On a positive note, cudos to Ensworth for outstanding devotion to diversity on its sports team. There's not a team in the state to play as many industrial sized and fast human beings relative to school size.
  16. The boys in blue have a chance and UT might be Florida. Unfortunately the odds are similar. I plan to be out of town Friday evening and won't be checking chattanoogan.com
  17. You're right. If you see some swine, please extend my heartfelt apology.
  18. Unfortunately for Temple its success in both football and basketball over the last several years might prove to be an anomaly primarily due to the presense of one incredibly talented family no longer associated with the school. Their success does demonstrate how one or two superior athletes on a small (A or AA) team can have a disproportionate impact.
  19. Your selection of McCallie '01 is an excellent example of the vagaries of soccer. I still haven't gotten over their last game of the year! The '99 team won state but certainly wasn't near as talented as the '01 or '02 teams. C'est la vie.
  20. I knew Boyd had a more diverse student body but assumed incorrectly (and knew you could set me straight). CCS asks a statement of faith which tends to eliminate both non Christian (and a fair amount of Christian) families. You're right regarding preponderance of Baptists. Signal Mountain alone has 9 Baptist churches which probably represents that many denominations. But I digress! Religious affiliation also limits the number of children who are going to attend denominationally restrictive Christian schools i.e. You're not going to find a lot of Episcopalians attending Temple. In fact, you won't find many Presbyterians.
  21. Boyd is affiliated with the Church of Christ but attracts a relatively diverse student body. CCS attracts students from over 80 churches but I believe the largest group are from Presbyterian. Other than that, you're spot on in terms of competition for available students.
  22. Excellent analysis but in this case you've just thrown pearls before swine.
  23. DIII - Private-College financial credit given. The solution is so simple; another classification! Next.
  24. Judging from the questions, you can determine MPH's segregaion criteria for schools: . Div. II)Private Div. I)Public I(a)Public Zoned I(b)Public Non-zoned I©Public Urban I(d)Public Rural Of course, the four subsets in Div I would have to be further segregated by size which insures what MPH desperately wants, the LEVEL PLAYING FIELD. That, and a few state championships for MPH JR. If we can only come up with a few dozen more combinations and permutations, everyone will be a winner and MPH won't have to be a whiner.
